We're not just a bar....

Loaded up with the best chilled beers, lagers, pale ale & ciders on 3-tap commercial chilled draft system, local Gin dispensed through a microscope and the best range of spirits you can summon up, garnishes and plenty of ice. We also come with a 1,000 watt stereo system, a fantastic set and lights to dazzle your audience! Whether you want us to set up outside your hotel,

in your garden, driveway or in the middle of a field, we can serve from wherever we can get to! We're a FULL SIZE BAR, so, unlike small 'horsebox' style set ups, you won't run the risk of running out of booze! But if we can’t ‘get there’, we also have 2 beautifully styled indoor options to choose from too. Totally COVID safe, you can be sure your guests can relax and just enjoy the R2 experience. Our sound system is beefy enough to provide a full on set, or we can play background music if you'd prefer. We are now available for hire across Scotland and North Northumberland for your private parties, weddings, corporate do's, Festivals or 'just because'!

Our Story

Simon and Debbie Rutherford opened Scotland’s first Micropub in the Summer of 2015.

Always known for his love of 'the quirk', Simon never really fitted in to modern life..... He is also a perfectionist with love of a good ale, a fine spirit, wholesome local food and lively banter. His answer? "Embrace the quirk! " Rutherfords Micropub was born!

At that time, there were approximately 200 micropubs in England, but not one in Scotland... Simon visited a few of these and chatted with the owners. When he returned to Scotland, the hunt was on to find the right property.

Kelso was a natural choice, with it’s beautiful Market Square (the largest in Scotland), on a sunny day, it feels like you could be in Belgium. The former knitwear shop next door to the stunning Cross Keys Hotel had been empty for many months, and, as one of the rules of a micropub is that it must be converted from an old shop (to bring back life to the high streets), it was perfect.
