I have been taking photos since I was a little boy, the spark having been lit by my Dad who was himself a keen photographer. Over the years I have photographed almost everything I could point a camera at, I just wasn’t getting excited taking photos of inanimate objects and landscapes; my passion is photographing people. I always imagined being a professional wedding photographer would be too much
of a good thing for me, then one fateful day a few years ago a photographer friend of mine asked me to be his second shooter at a wedding. I had an amazing day and came home feeling more proud of my photos than I ever had been before. Now here I am, living the dream I never knew I had, taking photos and creating memories that last a lifetime.

You haven't known fear until you've had to walk around a wedding venue full of white dresses and people drinking whilst carrying a tray of Bloody Mary's.
Let's talk about details.
My approach to photographing wedding days is to capture the memories. Mostly that means people, but I'm always looking to capture the details too.
To me, the most important thing about capturing details is context. I don't create flat lays or arrangements of trinkets. I capture the details as they are.
That means shoes on feet, flowers in hands, cufflinks in cuffs.
My favourite corridor in Whitley Hall... apparently.
It isn't a shot I set out to get whenever I go to Whitley Hall because I like to keep everyone's photos fresh and original, but somehow this photo seems to keep happening.
Of course there's a reason. There is a room at the back of that corridor which the registrar often uses to conduct their interviews prior to the ceremony. I usually position myself around the main staircase so that I have a view of the bridal party waiting, and the bride as she leaves the room.
So by chance, I'm usually in the spot to capture this same photo every time.
I do love the real emotion of this moment, as this is usually just moments before the bridal party makes their way down the aisle.
2023 may be nearly over, which is a great excuse for me to have a look back at my favourite photos from the year. This time I'm going to focus more on the candid moments rather than the headliner shots that I'm usually tempted to share more often.
These were all just unscripted, unexpected moments that happened on wedding days where I'd happened to get myself into the right place at the right time.

Beautiful scenery at Thornbridge Hall for Eleanor and Matt's special day.
The weather was particularly British yesterday for Ellie & Frank's special day, but that didn't stop them smiling all the way through. It was one of those magical days where the rain stopped exactly when we needed it to.

It just occurred to me that this is the first October in 3 years where I haven't photographed Jade and Thomas getting married.
This could be the best photo I've ever taken.
I have to say I was blown away when I stepped inside St George's Hall for the first time. I did wonder what kind of venue Ann and Tom would need to accommodate 350 guests.
What an incredible day, none stop from start to finish, with some amazing food to keep me going.

I feel like I short changed and . The only photo I shared from their wedding day featured Sharnie upside down. So here's a proper sneak peak this time 😉.
Honestly I'm so glad I only found out about the doves moments before they were released.
If I'd known in advance it's the kind of thing I would have stressed about.
There would have been sleepless nights thinking about what angle to shoot, which lens to use, whether to go shallow depth of field, should I track focus on the birds or stay on Kelly and Ryan.....
None of that would have been productive. As it happened I had a few minutes to think it over, and then just went for it.
Two birds, one chance to nail the shot.
It's probably not perfect, but I'm happy with it.
