When I started this journey, I never really thought I’d reach 100 releases. I’ve been collecting vinyl my whole life, always hunting for rare records and dubplates lost to time. With so many people trying to get their hands on the same gems I loved, and with having access to music that others couldn’t find (as well as knowing a lot of the artists involved), restarting Deep Jungle just felt like the right thing to do at the time.
Around that same period I also got introduced to Ableton, and realised I didn’t want DJ to just be a label for ’90s music - I wanted to release fresh tunes from friends and artists I rated highly. I’ve known Tim Reaper, Kid Lib, Ricky Force, and Dwarde for a long time, so adding them to the DJ roster was an easy choice. By then, I had my own productions ready to go as well, along with collabs as part of Subjects, and later on both Kid Lib and Orca (coming soon!).
From the start, I wanted Deep Jungle to represent both worlds—the legends, and the new wave. That’s why, alongside the names already mentioned, the label has welcomed artists like Phineus II and Artificial Red (neither of who I knew before starting DJ). I still love digging up old tracks to release, but I’m just as passionate about writing new music and collaborating with other artists.
Massive shoutout to all my old-school crew who’ve been part of the label: Adam F, Dillinja, Red Light, J Majik, Grooverider, Harmony & Xtreme (well Xtreme, no need to shout myself), Tech Itch, Babylon Cru, DJ Nut Nut, Simon Bassline Smith, Ruffkutt, Pascal, Subnation, Hopa & Bones, Monk & Top Cat, Prisoner, Phantom Image, Orca, DJ Trace, DJ Crystl, Ed Rush, Danny C & Mike Pears, Dubtronix & Devious D—couple of teasers in that list of artists forthcoming! 🙂
A few extra mentions of people I’m incredibly grateful to:
Stu @ Metropolis for mastering 99% of DJ.
Tony (second 1/2 of Subjects) for all the production tips. I've definitely learned a lot working with him over the years.
Ed (Tim Reaper) for all the label artwork—he’s done it all from day one!
Pete Cassin (Devnull) for always helping in different ways..
Jon & Perri @ Diamond Black.
Aly @ Bandcamp
Dean Twista for all the album's and other artwork he's done for us.
My DJ group chat buddies—Tim, Pete, Kenny, and Dinn—always ready with a tip or an opinion.
My wife, Bernadette, for her infinite patience, constant support, and for making it possible for me to do what I love. For that, I’ll be forever grateful. ❤️
I know it’s cliché to say, but without you lot, none of this would be possible. I truly appreciate all the support over the last eight years. Long live jungle and drum and bass, old and new—here’s to the next 100 DJ releases!
Big up,
Lee Harmony!
