As we prepare for the upcoming Wirral Viking Festival in 2025 we're thrilled to announce a new, FREE resource just for our young Viking enthusiasts!

This year, we're introducing a special Yuletide activity designed for kids ages 5 and up – bringing the magic and traditions of Viking winter celebrations to life!

🌟 About Viking Yuletide 🌟
Yuletide was a significant time for Vikings, a winter celebration that brought communities together for feasting, games, and honoring their gods. To help young ones (and their families!) dive into these ancient traditions, we’ve crafted a hands-on activity that’s both fun and educational. Kids will get the chance to create a Viking-inspired craft and learn about the stories and customs that made Yule so special.

With all of the fireworks and bonfires happening this weekend and next week, we are looking back at this year's amazing boat burning at our festival.

But more importantly it's getting us more excited for next year's.

Come and join us at Caldy Rugby club on June 14th and 15th 2025 for the Wirral Viking Festival to see our amazing farewell to our fallen warrior.

⚔️⚔️ What's in a name? ⚔️⚔️

Now let's take a look at Caldy, the location of next year's festival.

There are a couple of ideas relating to the origins of Caldy. One being Cold Islands, although my personal favourite is Cold Arse.

Caldy was known as Calders in 1086 (so post conquest) which makes much more sense with Cold Arse.

But here is hoping that since our big event is in June we won't be suffering with cold bottoms. (This is England after all, so there is a chance we will have snow, in the morning and a heatwave by 3pm. Unfortunately we can't control the weather, as much as our organiser would like to believe she can)
