It's been very quiet on the pick your own field over winter, but recently we've been beavering away sowing seeds and preparing the beds, and getting ready for the season ahead.

This year Over the Hedge will be operating as part of Sutton Community Farm. It will still be run by Rachel and Nick, but the help of a regular Thursday volunteer group, and other growers and trainees at the farm.

This means plenty of opportunities to teach our volunteers and trainees all about growing flowers, and that when you come to pick your own you will be supporting all the farm's brilliant work as a community business. It's a win-win!

To find out more about the farm head to their profile , or website www.suttoncommunityfarm.org.uk.

Keep a look out for updates as to when we will re-open for picking!

What a difference a weekend of rain makes! The sunflowers and sweetcorn feel like they've doubled in size and the dahlias are finally in full flow.

For all our efforts to keep the field irrigated, nothing saturates the soil like a really good downpour. It's such a relief to see some moisture in the soil! We were really in need of it after the scorching temperatures and such little rain over the last month.

Thanks to the rain, our sweetcorn look like they're nearly ready for harvesting so you can pick up a cob and some squash with your flowers from a couple of weeks time!

Anise Hyssop and Amaranth Coral Fountain in the field. The hyssop adds great greenery and texture to a bunch as well as smelling fresh, and amaranth is a bit of a feature with its cascading, coral seed head. We're going to try out drying this amaranth, one of the only blooms you don't want to dry upside down!
