“ Lots of Events happening in Mere for the Bank holiday long weekend for the Jubilee!

In the library and museum there is a Royal Jubilee exhibition all May and June.
Mere School are having a Jubilee themed day on the 20th May with an entertainer coming in, related activities and a street party style British themed lunch.
Mere Garden Club are giving a prize for the best scarecrow which will be exhibited on a trail around town all week and over the Bank Holiday weekend.
The Mere and District Day Centre ( RGC) are having a similar day of entertainment and celebration on the 30th May, whilst the Gardening Club are having a competition to make a scarecrow to create a trail , with the possibility of members of the Royal family depicted to spot en route.
A photograph to commemorate the Jubilee is being taken of all the people living in Mere who were children at the time of the accession , and who live in Mere still, on 1st June at 3 pm at the Parish church.
On Thursday 2nd June there will be a beacon lit at the top of Castle Hill at dusk in line with a national event.This is not a public event to attend due to Health and Safety; just to admire from a distance!
There is a big free Event on Saturday 4th June 11-4pm , with open air live music in the Vicarage field with a barbecue, coconut shy, food van and a bar.
In St. Michael’s Church there will be a Flower festival, ( being a jam jar of flowers on 2nd or 3rd June), a concert with a duo singing many old favourite songs from 2.30- 3.30 pm , hand bell ringing, ukukleles , a lovely flower festival , and in the churchyard area local societies and clubs will have stalls.
In the Angel Lane Cemetery car park, a super vintage Car show , plus a Children’s area with a bouncy castle , visiting animals and face painting. Don’t miss out on some fun with the chance to try your hand at Archery in the Meads.
Also there will be lunches and teas at the Grove Buildings, following a peal of bells, at 1 pm a demonstration by our local Zumba group, art and crafts area and an Art Exhibition. Around the town there will be a poetry and prose trail remembering the last 70 years , and ad hoc theatricals .
Turn up to win spot prizes for the best dressed dog and best hat design, with a grand winner and commemorative photo in both groups, plus a prize for the best dressed house.
Church St. will be closed, to have a range of stalls with lots of interesting items for sale. There is a film of the whole Event being made as a legacy of the celebrations.
There is also a commemorative tree planting, and finally to finish up, on Sunday 5th June there is a Thanksgiving at St Michael’s church , at 11 am , after which everyone can organise their own street parties if they so wish .”
