What a wonderful weekend of remembering those who are still here, and those who've gone, who all sacrificed so much.

Thank you to our friends at Vibe radio, for the lively interview yesterday and to the Mayor's team for again including us and the Proud Watford wreath in the parade and ceremony today.

November starts with a sombre and grateful mood with Remembrance Day thanks to those who served and lost their lives to protect the rest of us.

Today at 2pm (Saturday 8th) the wonderful interviews our founder Ian and gay 92 year old veteran Bryan Timberlake, discussing the laying of the Proud Watford wreath at the Peace Memorial.

Happier thoughts follow with the countdown to the return performance of Heels Off, Kettle On at the Pump House Theatre on November 22nd, and the always-hilarious Q***r Christmas Karaoke rounding up the month on Saturday 29th.

As always we'd love you to join us and continue to make the LGBTQIA community feel welcome and represented in Watford and beyond.

Details and booking can be found on our website proudwatford.com/events.

Delighted that our friends at D20 Board Game Cafe - Watford raised £157 at the brilliant Quingo night in October, and they've even more generously topped it up to £200.

Every penny raised by and for Proud Watford is used only for LGBTQIA events. The management committee are all volunteers, and our mission is to make Watford a Place Without Prejudice.

As we're only a small operation we're part of the Pump House Theatre & Arts Centre's charity to help with admin time and costs. All Proud Watford funds are kept separately and The Pump House accounts are audited and publicly available on the Charities Commission website.

Look out for us around Watford and at uocoming events - this weekend the inimitable Bryan Timberlake is reading the roll of honour at the Remembrance Day service at St Mary's Church, and at 3pm, Bryan will be joined by fellow ex-serviceman and Proud Watford member Willi Dixon to lay the Proud Watford wreath for all those who served and gave their lives for their country, including those who today might identify as LGBTQ+, at Watford’s Remembrance Ceremony at the Peace Memorial, Watford.

We'd love you to meet Proud Watford's Bryan Timberlake.

War veteran, gay man, 92 years young, and we believe the 2nd oldest active drag queen in the world.

When he fought for our country, it was illegal for him to live openly as a gay man.

He could have been imprisoned or worse, both at home or out on duty.

Now he lives openly and fully, and is honoured to be reading the roll of honour at the Remembrance Day service at St Mary's Church in Watford, and once again laying a Proud Watford wreath at the peace memorial by Watford town hall.

We are proud of him, and everything he and all those who laid down several years of their lives (and many their whole lives) lost, to keep the rest of us safe.

Please join us in remembering those who died, and in our quest to make the world a safer place for all of us.

A Place Without Prejudice.

Thanks so much to the brilliant D20 Board Game Cafe - Watford for hosting a wonderful Quingo yesterday.

We had the best fun and love having you as our friends and supporters.

And if you're one of the few Watford residents who hasn't yet paid them a visit - please do! What's more fun than games accompanied by food and a few beers? 🤔😍🏳️‍🌈😁🏳️‍⚧️

This looks really interesting - the storytellers sound like really interesting people and we're definitely hoping there'll be a Proud Watford contingent attending.

Plus toasting marshmallows whilst listening to stories sounds like a delightful way to spend an autumn afternoon .😍😜.

It's that time of year when we look forward to toasting marshmallows round the fire and listening to Campfire Heritage Stories. On 12 October we'll be gathering to hear about the trials, tribulations and triumphs our Storytellers have experienced as part of the LGBTQ+ community in the Chilterns

Find out more and meet our storytellers at https://www.coam.org.uk/events/campfire-heritage-oct2025

Uniting Our Struggles: Highlighting Intersectionality in the Fight for Equality this Black History Month

The fight against racism and homophobia in the UK, whilst outwardly distinct, share powerful and often overlapping struggles. At Proud Watford, we recognise the vital importance of intersectionality: the understanding that a person's overlapping social identities—such as being both Black and LGBTQI+—can create unique experiences of discrimination.

When identities intersect, prejudice is amplified. A Black gay man, for instance, faces the sharp edge of both racism and homophobia, where each issue doesn't just add up but multiplies the discrimination they experience. This is not a competition of oppression, but a shared fight against all forms of hate that seek to divide and diminish us.

We can look to inspirational Black and minority ethnic LGBTQ+ figures who have long championed both causes. Thank activists like Phyll Opoku-Gyimah, founder of UK Black Pride and Marsha P. Johnson resisting arrest at the Stonewall Inn for their impact, and from a wider perspective, the influence of the Le****ns and G**s Support the Miners (LGSM) group, who demonstrated powerful cross-community solidarity in the face of discrimination. Their lives show us that our liberation is bound together.

To forge a stronger, united front, we must:

Listen and Learn: Actively seek out and amplify the voices of Black and minority ethnic LGBTQ+ people.

Solidarity in Action: Show up and support community events and campaigns for both racial justice and LGBTQ+ rights.

Challenge Internal Bias: Educate ourselves and our communities on the prejudices we may unintentionally hold against others.

By understanding and acting on our shared struggles, we can build towards a truly inclusive and equitable Watford and UK for everyone. A Place Without Prejudice, if you will.
