We are so very sad to hear the news that Wetherby course specialist Mister McGoldrick has passed at the grand old age of 27.
He was one of Yorkshire's best loved steeplechasers, with a stellar career, which included eight Wetherby⁶ wins. We absolutely loved seeing him run here, and we all backed his Cheltenham win and there were tears in the office on that day and again today.
Mac was proudly cantered out on the track in front of cheering grandstands when it was decided to announce his retirement and the team at Wetherby played a small part in his re-homing with New Beginnings.
After retirement, he paraded and stood here many times and so many racegoers came out to see him as he was such a legend and people had a real connection with him. Pam very kindly called us earlier today to let us know the sad news. 🥲
Wetherby will fondly remember him and we promise we will be keeping his legacy alive.. watch this space.
RIP Mister Magoo, rest easy, run free. ❤️

Some of our team took some Racecourse memoribilia down to The WiSE Memory Cafe this afternoon, to spark some discussion about racing in Wetherby. We met some lovely people, enjoyed a natter and we all felt the cafe was an amazing initiative 👏 well done WiSE and Thank you for having us.
The team today have spent the morning volunteering at the Wetherby in Support of the Elderly Welcome Cafe as part of the Racing Together Community Day. We met some lovely locals who came to enjoy hot soup, toasted tea cakes and a delicious selection of fresh cakes along with a nice cuppa tea 🫖🍰
