After a two-year break because of Covid, the Wessex Folk Festival is back in 2022 and planning is underway. Because the traditional festival weekend coincides with the Jubilee Bank Holiday this year, we are returning with a slightly different format for the event. It will feature the usual sessions and workshops throughout the weekend and music on a single stage in Hope Square on the Sunday (June

5th). Dancing will be at sites in the town on the Saturday (June 4th) and on the south side of the Harbour on the Sunday. Plans are afoot for a Ceilidh in the Square at the end of the Sunday stage performances.

What a great weekend at the Wessex Folk Festival 2024! Opened by Weymouth’s new Mayor Jon Orwell, we had a visit from a Lifeboat, and great publicity in the local press and in the nationals! The sun shone, the music, was fantastic and the morris dancing exuberant. Thank you to our star performers on the Hope Square stage, and the Harbour Stage delivered many talented local artists too.
A huge thank you to our Sponsors and supporters, our volunteers and committee. See you all next year!!

Did anyone listen to the Folk Show on Radio 2 last night? Shaun Keaveny gave a plug for the Wessex Folk Festival 2024. A track by Banter, a mention of Steve Knightley, Urban Folk Quartet and the Sam Kelly Trio, all appearing along with many other top acts at our very own Weymouth Folk Festival on 1/2 June! Don’t miss it!
Thanks Shaun!!

A final word from the Festival Director, Bob Ford:
"This weekend saw the return to a full two-day event for the Wessex Folk Festival. There are so many people to thank and it was a real privilege to lead such a talented group of people to deliver some great local acts and nationally-known artists and to receive the enthusiastic support of our local businesses and residents, We Are Weymouth, our advertisers and sponsors and trade stalls. I also have to thank our great and enthusiastic volunteers and, of course, the amazing audiences for their encouragement, support and thanks. I really appreciate being given the opportunity to head up such a great FREE folk festival and look forward to next year."

Free Festival

Over the last ten years or so Wessex Folk Festival has grown into one of the biggest FREE folk festivals in Britain. There are two stages showing continuous live music from over thirty bands all day Saturday and Sunday. Wander around Weymouth’s picturesque Harbour and Hope Square, shop at some of the many hand-picked Trade Stalls while enjoying the excitement of the many Morris Dancing teams. Or maybe relax with friends and a drink outdoors while watching the music. Perhaps attend one of our popular music workshops. Several of the surrounding pubs have folk music sessions throughout and there is a Barn Dance on Saturday night.
