Had such an amazing email following a funeral - I don’t usually share these, but this one bowled me over!

“May I say on behalf of my family and myself how happy we were that you were the celebrant at my mother’s funeral yesterday. You captured her personality and spirit perfectly, and my Mum would have been very happy with such a lovely service. Many people commented that you were exceptional, and those that also had recently lost loved ones themselves found great comfort in your words. Heartfelt thanks from all our family and friends.”

I should like to thank all those Whitby families who have entrusted me with the funerals of their loved ones in this past year, and the funeral directors who have recommended me. It has been a privilege to be alongside you in such turbulent times, and to help bear witness to the extraordinary and wonderful lives who have been so much part of the fabric of our beautiful town. These iconic piers represent for me the embrace of homecoming after a voyage on waters both calm and perilous - may all our loved ones be safe in the eternal haven under the hill.

Honoured to have been asked last week to conduct the funeral of the late Sheila McKenzie, doyenne of The Magpie Cafe - what an amazing lady! And, as is the way in Whitby, found a connection between our two families!!

Delighted to welcome Ainsley to a funeral I had the privilege to conduct with Fawcett & Heatherington at Teesside Crematorium yesterday - the lovely lady to whom we were saying farewell had a soft spot for him, as well as this cardboard cutout in her flat! Having thoughtfully been contacted by the FD, he also sent a message of condolence to the family. It’s the little touches that make such a difference!! 🙂
