Whitley Bay Light Parade

Whitley Bay Light Parade The Goldwing Owners Club of Great Britain is holding its third Goldwing Light Parade at Whitley Bay Welcome to the Whitley Bay Light Parade page.

Saturday 21st of April 2018 will be the inaugural Honda Goldwing Static Display and Light Parade held at Briardene Carpark on the sea front. It is hoped to be an annual event. On this page you will find the latest information whether you are a Goldwing Rider wanting to join the Parade or just want to come along and see the spectacular Light show. With many of the bikes adorning thousands of pounds

of computer controlled lights, its certainly going to be a show not to miss. The event is free and will be suitable for all ages. We are collecting for and with the RNLI. Please click on the top banner to see details of timings, route and other information. In 2019 we had our second Light Parade, proved to be a bigger attraction. Sadly 2020, like many other events was cancelled due to covid-19. 2021 we have changed the month from March/April to September, we are hopeful that the event can carry on but at the time of writing this we are still very much locked into the pandemic.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Whitley Bay Goldwing Light Parade

Due to circumstances beyond our control, we have reluctantly decided to cancel Whitley Bay Goldwing Light Parade for 2021 and the future.

We are extremely sorry we have had to make this decision and disappoint a lot of people but at this time there are a lot of underlying factors that have forced us to make this decision.

Should you require any further information on this matter please email me on [email protected]

Just to let you know. A number of the Goldwing owners came up to the Caravan Park despite the light parade being cancelled and had a great socially distanced chill out weekend. IMPORTANT Whitley Bay Light Parade 2020 lock down
As you know the government has announced that regions in the North East are going into lock down with effect from midnight tonight. This includes North Tyneside. These measures include people must not socialise with other people outside of their own households or support bubble and Late night restriction of operating hours will be introduced, with leisure and entertainment venues required to close between 10pm to 5am.
So how does it affect the weekend break we had hoped members would come along to. Well the main issue is with people who are sharing a caravan with another couple(s). Again this is a confusing statement as it appears you can go to the pub but not maybe share a caravan.
If you are in this position of sharing with others then you may have to make alternative arrangements, for example only one couple come or move your booking to next year.
Micky has been onto the holiday park as well as others all day to try and sort this situation. We have been waiting for Park Dean to make a decision. What we have been told is that the caravan park is open, any members who decide not to come can transfer the weekend to next year (next years date is Sat 18th September), at the moment we are not sure what extra price this will involve, the caravans have gone up next year, we think there is an Administration charge and we have not negotiated a discount with them yet, so we simply do not know what members will have to pay if they transfer their booking. IF YOU ARE PLANNING ON DOING THIS YOU MUST DO IT NOT LATER THAN TOMMORROW before the booking office shuts.
We are absolutely gutted one again that on the 11hour and in this case 59th minute, the government has closed us down or put restrictions on us. Our sincere apologies. Please be assured that if you do go to the caravan park, the organisers will be about.
Regards Derek & Micky

16/09/2020

To everyone attending the caravan park at Whitley Bay this weekend 19th September 2020 for a social gathering.
We have just found out that there COULD be lock down restrictions announced for the North East tomorrow which will come into force from midnight on Thursday 17th September.
This includes a ban on socialising with anyone outside your household and people are not allowed to go on holiday with people from other households.
People who don't live in the same household will not be able to share a a caravan.
As soon as this is confirmed I will be back in touch but just wanted to give you all the heads up our weekend maybe cancelled.

Message from the organisers of Whitley Bay Light Parade 2020

As you know the government has issued new rules of no more than 6 in a group. This has led to confusion and people are literally taking this as events of over 6 cannot happen. North Tyneside Council were still keen to have the socially distanced event to carry on. However our biggest concern was that if the Police went past and saw a load of bikes together they would start to issue fines. The police when contacted said look on the government website.

Both the RNLI and the Royal British Legion Riders have cancelled all events, this means that we would not have any marshals.

For these reasons we have had no alternative but to cancel the light parade.

Because of the Coronavirus, the government decided to give out grants to councils who put in cycle lanes. This also has happened here and has given us months of hard work to get permission to use the cycle lane. While we were told that we could use it initially, we then had to keep modifying risk assessment forms, method statements and so on, we only just had final approval the day before the groups of 6 law was announced.

The Park Dean Holiday Park will remain open under their covid19 restrictions. The caravan park is unlikely to issue refunds or transfers but please feel free to contact them. Our suggestion would be to still come along and enjoy a weekend break, the organisers will also be there all weekend. Sadly, it also means we cannot do any rides out as i am not sure how the Police would handle a large group of motorcycles. There is however loads of stuff to go and see around the area.

We are absolutely gutted that the event once again has been cancelled in the 11th hour and while the event was going to get run under strict covid measures, we feel because of the clear as mud law change from the government that this is open to interpretation, we simply cannot take the chance to move on with this.

So our sincere apologies but due to lack of support, ambiguous statements about the groups definition I do hope you understand our decision but remember please come up if you have booked a caravan and have a socially distanced weekend break.

regards .......Micky, Derek and Christine

A message from the organiser:
Whitley Bay Goldwing Light Parade 2020.
OK everyone here goes, our Whitley Bay Light Parade is still planned to go on, We have been in contact this week with North Tyneside Council to hold our Light Parade on the Saturday 19th September 2020. We are one of three outdoor events they are keen to support. The event will be run under current Government guidelines for covid-19. We have also recently visited Whitley Bay Caravan Park to see what arrangements have been made and all is set up there.
Please remember that this decision has been made in line with government guidelines and current up to date information. This however could change at short notice.
Everything is the same as our other light parades on the Saturday morning we will meet at THE LINKS in Whitley Bay and the static display starts 10.00am, Border Wings will be there from 8.00am to set up and to marshal bikes onto the display area. Bikes will be spaced out for the wingers and members of publics protection. Border will set up a gazebo for inscription, limited numbers will be allowed in there at one time, please also wear a mask when entering. Hand sanitising stations will be positioned around the event area. R N L I will also be in attendance with collection buckets.
The parade sets off at 7.30pm from Briar Dene Car Park, the route is the same but from Spanish City the council has put in a pop up cycle lane that takes over one side of the road from Whitley Bay right along the coast to Tynemouth. The council have given us dispensation to use the cycle lane. The road on the way back is open to normal traffic. The light parade will return back to the Briar Dene Car Park where all show lights should be turned off.
It is important that if you feel unwell, please do not attend. Also please consider your own health conditions and age. We will do our best to keep everyone safe in these difficult times.
At the caravan park. Downstairs has been made into a restaurant till 9pm, so Friday if you want to come into the complex, seating will be upstairs but has a capacity limit. Saturday night we should be okay to use downstairs. There is no entertainment on as live bands cannot perform, also we cannot use a microphone for announcements, however as normal we will still have a good time at the only light parade this year.
Please be aware that the coronavirus is still with us and if there is a sudden outburst in the Whitley Bay area the Government can lock us down, lets hope this is not the case. If the light parade is cancelled and the caravan park is still open then our suggestion would be to still come, make a weekend break out of it and come and visit some of the many local attractions we have.
Micky Price.

25/06/2020

Attention for Gold Wing Owners who booked for Whitley Bay Caravan Park: As you may know we are working hard to try and get Whitley Bay Light Parade moved to 19th September. We have been working along with Park Dean resorts and Whitley Bay Caravan park to try and move all caravans to September. Now i know this is not the ideal situation but it was better than people losing the money paid out for caravans as it was too late to cancel. As far as i know some members have been contacted by the resort and been asked to pay up to £20 more, this is because the rate for caravans in March is lower than September. We have had at least one member say they cannot make that date because of a previous commitment, sadly myself and Micky cannot do anything about this and you would have to take it up with Park Dean to try and get a refund. In Park deans defence, the government advised people not to go or hold events or go to pubs clubs etc, they did not close the pubs clubs etc, i believe they have done this to save on compensation claims, so the loss is being brunted by businesses. Park Dean will have lost a weekends takings on this so a slight increase in costs i think is reasonable, at least we have not lost the entire money. If you have booked a caravan and park dean has not been in contact, please give them a ring.
