High Sheriff, High Fashion!
This sumptuous velvet cost was made for Jo Riddell who took the office as High Sheriff of Northumberland a few years ago.
To be honest, I didn't know about this honorary position, let alone that it had such a fancy outfit!
Making this beautiful coat drew upon my training and experience of making historical costume, along with my more current formal wear work.
We used antique lace for the gabot (necktie!) and buttons from a 19th century military uniform.

The making of the flowers....
The starting point was the gorgeous pansy embroidered fabric from @bridalfabrics then I delicately cut out individual flowers as pieced them together to form the organic hem edge.
To add an extra element to the design, I added some flowers on top of others around the neckline and hem, sewn only in the centre to give a 3D effect.
With every bespoke dress I make, my clients get a personal service and get to help design the most special outfit for their discussion occasion.

I was reminded of this gorgeous Irish wedding while chatting in a fitting with a current client about how her best friends couldn't make it along with her as plans had changed.
During the designing and making process of this dress, we had several video call meetings and fittings with my bride in the studio in North East England and her family in Ireland. It was a great way to get them feeling involved when they couldn't physically be there.
And.... the end results were pretty special, as you can see.
