With a background in arts and entertainment, both on and off stage, I always wondered if a career as a celebrant would work for me. Friends and family had, over the years, said I'd be perfect. Working on stage as an actress and singer and off stage as a director, producer and writer, it seemed to be the perfect fit! So I bit the bullet and trained with the wonderful Fellowship of Professional Cele

brants. Whether you're organising your wedding and would like something that truly reflects you as a couple, celebrating your lasting love by renewing your vows, welcoming your beautiful new baby into the family or giving your loved one a warm and uplifting farewell, I am passionate about creating bespoke, authentic and heartfelt ceremonies that offer the freedom and flexibility to give unique and treasured memories for you and your family. I am based in Whitstable in Kent but cover Surrey, Sussex, Essex and London. I am happy to officiate at ceremonies that respect all beliefs, and none, as well as being LGBTQ+ inclusive. For use indoors and out, I have my own mobile P.A. sound system that can accommodate microphones and play music.

“The moment I first talked to Lou on the telephone, I had a good feeling.”
“...she spoke with such passion and elegance.”
“Lou was warm, kind and professional.”
“...a delight from start to finish.”
“Honestly, cannot recommend her enough.”

I am originally from Surrey but, together with my husband Rodger and son Sam, we moved to Whitstable on the Kent Coast in 2011 and I now adore walking my West Highland Terrier Bobbi along the seafront and then winding up consuming the local delicacy of oysters, washed down with a good cold beer! When I am not standing in front of guests at a wedding, I am standing in front of music lovers, as I am a member of (a five-piece blues band) as well as go out as a vocalist on my own. I do a few shifts a week in the Box Office at our local arts centre The Gulbenkian and lastly, I present a weekly radio show, offering a mix of blues, soul and jazz, interspersed with loads of fabulous chat! And when I am not doing that, I am cleaning the house…

So, with my theatrical background, if you're looking for something a little bit different, I'm your girl!

Mike and Fiona's wedding day was utterly brilliant! Not only had they fantastic stories to tell (they both have a wicked sense of humour!) but they were a joy to work with.

Added bonus was that I didn't have to travel far as they choose the wonderful Crescent Turner Hotel, which is literally up the road!

Thanks for your very kind words guys - I'm glad your day was everything you wished it to be.

When you run your own business, and one that doesn't involve selling a product but actually selling yourself, it is absolutely imperative that you receive positive feedback from previous clients.

This is certainly the case for me. Although what I am offering as a ceremony is all about my couples and families, the way that I conduct myself personally in the planning and conducting of the ceremonies, should say a lot about the service I offer to future clients.

Therefore, if you have worked with me, be it as your celebrant for a Naming Ceremony, Wedding or Renewal of Vows Ceremony or a Funeral Service, or alongside me as a supplier in the industry, I would welcome some thoughts on your experience.

You can send your feedback/review by email to [email protected] (please state event and date) or you could place it on this page in the reviews section.

I would be so grateful, as we are all only as good as our last booking!

I am pleased to say that I celebrate four years of funeral services this coming September!

It was a career change in 2020 into a job (well, to be honest it's so much more than just a job...) that I never, ever thought I would end up doing - but with a background in arts and entertainment, where I was not only writing theatre press releases (I know, perhaps somewhat different in tone to a eulogy...) and performing on stage (a transferable skill?) I finally, in my 50s, found what I was put on this planet to do.

Like other celebrants, I consider my role a privilege and an honour, which I certainly don't take lightly. To walk alongside grieving families, at a time when they are feeling their most fragile, and hold their hand through their funeral planning process is humbling, rewarding and enriching in more ways that I could never have imagined when I set out at the start of my celebrant journey.

And although I also conduct Wedding Ceremonies, Naming Ceremonies and Renewal of Vows Ceremonies, it is the work I carry out with families who have lost a a beloved family member or friend that I find most fulfilling. I am also immensely surprised and eternally grateful when, after a service, they then take the time to write and thank me. I get some amazing feedback. as you can see!

If you have used my services in the past, may I take this opportunity to thank you wholeheartedly for trusting me. However, if you are hearing about me for the first time and are looking for a celebrant that offers something a bit different (I'm known for writing services with a lighter and comedic approach - when appropriate and requested), then why not pop me in your contact list?

I am based in Whitstable but have travelled throughout Kent and indeed further afield such as Surrey, Sussex and Essex. I work closely with the crematoriums at Herne Bay, Thanet and Barham but have a particularly close working relationship with Faversham & Mid Kent Crematorium, as I was asked to play a small part in their launch service last year and additionally wrote and delivered their special Christmas service for 2023.

I ❤️ my job. There is nothing better than seeing smiling and sometimes happy tearful faces of family and friends as they share in a couples Wedding Day celebrations.

And this was certainly the case for Dan and Sarah, who exchanged their vows in their gorgeous garden on Sunday afternoon. Job done.

So it was utterly unexpected to arrive home this afternoon to a package delivered in my name - Yorkshire afternoon tea from Bettys from them as a thank you. So very generous and thoughtful, my Yorkshireman of a husband is very happy to step in and assist should I struggle on my own...

My job as a celebrant sees me witness many forms of love.

Whether it be new parents welcoming their bundle of joy into the family with a Naming Ceremony, a couple saying "I do!" at their Wedding or "I continue to!" at a Renewal of Vows Ceremony or sharing the story of a loved one at a funeral service.

Love takes many forms.
Love creates many moments.
Love is universal.

Congratulations to Dan and Sarah!

Wedding ceremonies with me can be held literally anywhere you wish.

So today I have the pleasure of conducting Sarah and Daniel's wedding ceremony in their beautiful back garden.

They will be joined by their very close family for what promises to be a very intimate and meaningful day.

I love my job.

I trained with, and now work closely with, the Fellowship of Professional Celebrants (FPC).

Terri Negus, Founder of FPC:-

"All of our celebrants are trained to write bespoke and personalised ceremonies for every person, couple or family whom we serve. We never train or encourage any celebrant to use pre-written templates for services and our ethos is very much that every person is unique and therefore every ceremony should be unique.

Any member of the public or professional who engages with us, such as Funeral Directors and Wedding Planners, can be assured that in choosing an FPC Celebrant, they are choosing someone who has been professionally trained to an exceptionally high standard. They are choosing someone who is fully certified and has no criminal convictions; providing total piece of mind in an un-regulated profession.

As the largest organisation of independent celebrants in the UK and Europe, our celebrants are professionally trained to write and deliver personalised ceremonies full of meaning and heart."

So this afternoon I am at The Rising Sun Stourmouth where I will have the pleasure of conducting a Renewal of Vows Ceremony for the very lovely Paul and Antonia.

They didn't have a proper wedding ceremony when they got hitched before - just down to the Registry Office - so today I am giving them the full works, as only celebrants like myself can do!

Arrived at The Crescent Turner Hotel to conduct the wedding ceremony for Mike and Fiona.

It's a wee bit blowy but we'll push through!

Delivered a funeral this afternoon for one of the most loveliest families I have ever had the pleasure of meeting.

They were so appreciative of everything, they handed me a gift bag afterwards, containing some chocolates, some beauty products and the most beautifully handwritten card.

I was overwhelmed.

Losing a beloved pet is undoubtedly one of life’s most heart-wrenching experiences. The unconditional love and companionship they offer us cannot be replaced, and for many people, it can feel like losing one of the family or a much-loved friend.

So why wouldn't you honour them with the same loving goodbye as you would any of your other family members? Well you can.
I can create a heartfelt and meaningful farewell ceremony for you and your loved ones, that is filled with stories, anecdotes and loving words about your pet that will help bring solace and healing to your grief and see your beloved pet on their final journey and resting place.

It's what they deserve.
