Kent Creative Ceremonies Creative storytelling with
love, joy, care and compassion. Marriage, Family & Funeral Celebrant. Thanks for taking the time to visit my page!

With a background in arts and entertainment, both on and off stage, I always wondered if a career as a celebrant would work for me. Friends and family had, over the years, said I'd be perfect. Working on stage as an actress and singer and off stage as a director, producer and writer, it seemed to be the perfect fit! So I bit the bullet and trained with the wonderful Fellowship of Professional Cele

brants. Whether you're organising your wedding and would like something that truly reflects you as a couple, celebrating your lasting love by renewing your vows, welcoming your beautiful new baby into the family or giving your loved one a warm and uplifting farewell, I am passionate about creating bespoke, authentic and heartfelt ceremonies that offer the freedom and flexibility to give unique and treasured memories for you and your family. I am based in Whitstable in Kent but cover Surrey, Sussex, Essex and London. I am happy to officiate at ceremonies that respect all beliefs, and none, as well as being LGBTQ+ inclusive. For use indoors and out, I have my own mobile P.A. sound system that can accommodate microphones and play music.

“The moment I first talked to Lou on the telephone, I had a good feeling.”
“...she spoke with such passion and elegance.”
“Lou was warm, kind and professional.”
“...a delight from start to finish.”
“Honestly, cannot recommend her enough.”

I am originally from Surrey but, together with my husband Rodger and son Sam, we moved to Whitstable on the Kent Coast in 2011 and I now adore walking my West Highland Terrier Bobbi along the seafront and then winding up consuming the local delicacy of oysters, washed down with a good cold beer! When I am not standing in front of guests at a wedding, I am standing in front of music lovers, as I am a member of (a four-piece blues band) as well as go out as a vocalist on my own. I also do a few shifts a week in the Box Office at our local arts centre The Gulbenkian. And when I am not doing that, I am cleaning the house…

So, with my theatrical background, if you're looking for something a little bit different, I'm your girl!

However you're planning to say goodbye to your loved one; whether its at your local crematorium, a memorial held at a much-loved hotel or a small gathering in a beloved back garden, coming together and remembering all those precious times is an important part of the grieving journey.

Holding your hand gently through the planning of the ceremony, I promise that I will write the words that will celebrate their life in a wonderful and meaningful way, with joy and compassion, giving all those assembled the chance to say their final farewell respectfully, gracefully and with love.

Independent Celebrants Personalise
Registrars Legalise
That's it. That's the difference.

In some areas, some couples are being forced, through lack of knowledge, to use only registrars.

In some areas, some venues are being told that they cannot use celebrants or they'll lose their licences.

Planning your own wedding ceremony? Registrar or Celebrant? Please ensure you understand the full facts of what you are booking and do not get pushed into something you don't want...

My job is to write the words for your wedding ceremony. But I also think about how a ceremony script fits with the music choices. And it can be quite a tough task for couples to choose what to play as they come in (Processional) and go out (Recessional).

So, do you go for a romantic ballad that draws a tear? Pick something with lyrics that are personally meaningful for you both? Perhaps you'd like an uplifting song as you dance your way back down the aisle? It all depends on what atmosphere and tone you would like to create at that given moment.

I've been married to the lovely Rodger for nearly 32 years now and if we were to choose music for us now, it would be very different to what we had played at our wedding in 1993. Our ceremony would definitely include a song by Billy Joel, as we both adore him, so probably "The Piano Man" which is our favourite. Plus we'd have "Is This Love?" by Whitesnake, as this was the song that was playing when we both looked at one another and realised we had something quite special starting. Lastly, I think Van Morrison's "Have I Told You Lately That I Love You?" would be included. Because you know what - I never do tell Rodger enough...

Music can be so emotive can't it? But you know what? Whatever you choose, it will be an utterly beautiful addition to your big day.

But what's your tune of choice? Let me know in the comments...
