With a background in arts and entertainment, both on and off stage, I always wondered if a career as a celebrant would work for me. Friends and family had, over the years, said I'd be perfect. Working on stage as an actress and singer and off stage as a director, producer and writer, it seemed to be the perfect fit! So I bit the bullet and trained with the wonderful Fellowship of Professional Cele

brants. Whether you're organising your wedding and would like something that truly reflects you as a couple, celebrating your lasting love by renewing your vows, welcoming your beautiful new baby into the family or giving your loved one a warm and uplifting farewell, I am passionate about creating bespoke, authentic and heartfelt ceremonies that offer the freedom and flexibility to give unique and treasured memories for you and your family. I am based in Whitstable in Kent but cover Surrey, Sussex, Essex and London. I am happy to officiate at ceremonies that respect all beliefs, and none, as well as being LGBTQ+ inclusive. For use indoors and out, I have my own mobile P.A. sound system that can accommodate microphones and play music.

“The moment I first talked to Lou on the telephone, I had a good feeling.”
“...she spoke with such passion and elegance.”
“Lou was warm, kind and professional.”
“...a delight from start to finish.”
“Honestly, cannot recommend her enough.”

I am originally from Surrey but, together with my husband Rodger and son Sam, we moved to Whitstable on the Kent Coast in 2011 and I now adore walking my West Highland Terrier Bobbi along the seafront and then winding up consuming the local delicacy of oysters, washed down with a good cold beer! When I am not standing in front of guests at a wedding, I am standing in front of music lovers, as I am a member of (a five-piece blues band) as well as go out as a vocalist on my own. Lastly, I present a weekly radio show, offering a mix of blues, soul and jazz, interspersed with loads of fabulous chat! And when I am not doing that, I am cleaning the house…

So, with my theatrical background, if you're looking for something a little bit different, I'm your girl!

So I'm off up to Kenilworth this morning for the National Funeral Exhibition 2024 to help man the Fellowship of Professional Celebrants stall all day tomorrow, alongside our wonderful leader Terri and other fellowship celebrants.

It will be a first for me; there will be a chance to promote the brilliant work that independent celebrants do (not just for grieving families but also the support we offer to our funeral directors in delivering their services) and for me to look around the exhibition myself and see all the latest developments in our unique industry.

Looking forward to a great couple of days!

So today my husband and I happily celebrate our 31st Wedding Anniversary!

We got married on Saturday the 12th of June 1993, which seems like such a lifetime away but also feels like it was just yesterday. Time flies right?

So it naturally goes without saying that I am a big advocate for marriage. It's not always easy and there are many bumps along the way. But I've found over the years that my husband Rodger is indeed my best friend. He always supports me (although we don't always agree on stuff!) he looks after me in the best possible way (I know that sounds perhaps a little lame, but I think we all need looking after) he makes me laugh most days but more importantly, he loves me unconditionally with all my flaws. And there are many.

I was lucky to meet him. I am lucky to have him in my life. And I never take that for granted.

Just driven back from Brighton, after a planning meeting with the lovely Sophie and Tom, whose wedding ceremony is booked with me at the end of August.

I always get such a buzz hearing all about how my couples met, what they like about each other (and what they don't!) and what makes them tick. I'm essentially quite nosy, so this has always been the perfect job for me!

Anyway, I just know it's going to be a beautiful Summer ceremony...

In today's digital age, distance doesn't have to mean disconnection.

At Memoria Memoria Faversham & Mid Kent, we understand that when a loved one passes away, it's not always possible for everyone to be physically present to bid farewell. That's where technology steps in to bridge the gap.

With our cutting-edge webcast technology, we offer a solution for those unable to attend a funeral in person. Our live streaming service allows grieving families and friends to participate in the service from anywhere in the world, providing a sense of closure and connection.

Arranging a webcast is simple: just speak to your funeral arranger and express your interest in live streaming the service. Once set up, you'll receive login details to share with anyone who wishes to join remotely.

Viewers can watch the service in real-time, and for those unable to tune in live, a recording will be available for 28 days after the service.

Additionally, for a nominal fee, you can request a copy of the service on DVD or USB for keepsake purposes.

Don't let distance hinder your ability to honour and remember your loved ones. Reach out to us to explore our facilities or to arrange a viewing. Alternatively, speak to your local funeral director to learn more.

Aside from the current funeral directors I work alongside, I am now working with Maskell & Uden in Westgate-on-Sea.

I was kindly recommended to them by my fellow celebrant Jen Watson, Funeral Celebrant. JW Celebrancy

This afternoon I took a service at Herne Bay Crematorium for a lovely lady, who was completely dedicated to her loving family.

Naturally, they were all there to celebrate her wonderful life; she was carried in by members of her family and two of her four children came up to the podium and delivered the story of her life that they'd written themselves. There was a lovely visual tribute and then they all came together at the end of the service to bid her their final loving farewell.

It was simple. Beautiful. Heartfelt.

So this morning I am at the Bluebell Crematorium in Halstead to help a lovely family say goodbye to their sister.

It's a very modern design for the Chapel and this morning, the building and beautiful gardens are bathed in the most gorgeous sunshine.

So if you're looking for a peaceful place that's perfectly positioned for Kent, Sussex and London to say farewell, then this crematorium is definitely worth a look...

So today I had a lovely lunchtime meet-up with a few Kent based celebrants at Canterbury Chartham Garden Centre, part of The Blue Diamond Group

Swapping tips, ideas, stories - and subsequent laughter - it is always so very helpful and enjoyable, and ensures that we don't feel quite so isolated in this weird world of celebrancy!

Forgot to take a picture though - I'm utterly useless! But more importantly, what do you call a group of celebrants? A circle of celebrants? A squad of celebrants? A cluster pf celebrants? A swarm of celebrants? Who knows...

But it was lovely to catch up with:-

Even though I have called my business Kent Creative Ceremonies, my services are not just limited to the county of Kent. I travel anywhere I am personally requested or needed.

So today, I am travelling over to Bexhill-on-Sea to meet with a family who will be saying their final farewell to their loved one in May.

So whether you live in Kent, Cambridgeshire or Cornwall, I would be honoured to walk your family through the process, write a deeply personal and heartfelt service and be your voice on the day.

As some of you may know, I am facing my fears on Saturday the 8th of June and hurling myself out of a plane, all in aid of a wonderful charity that have been, and continue to be, absolutely brilliant for Sam.

The Fenner Frost Foundation are a small organisation, based in Sittingbourne, who support young people with disabilities in the workplace. They run RPM, which is a second hand music shop in the town, selling CD's, vinyl and cassette tapes.

The team support the young people by giving them real focus, skills, experience and confidence, so that they feel valued and appreciated in society - something unfortunately that is truly lacking. They set achievable targets for Sam (which he has smashed BTW!) and he has also attended training courses in Customer Service, Health & Safety, Online Safety and Craft & Mindfulness. They also provide opportunities for social activities too - tomorrow he is attending their Silent Disco, they have regular Karaoke Nights and he will be going on holiday with them for a couple of days at the end of June. Sam's only been going there since October and already we have seen a huge difference - he loves it and always comes back from his two days a week there with a renewed sense of confidence.

So, I have set a target of £500 (a huge amount to this charity but a small amount to others) and am nearly up to £300. Please, if you are able to help and donate, I (and all the team at the charity) would be hugely grateful. Many thanks to those of you who have already donated - big love to you all!

Just received this lovely feedback from Katherine and Ian, whose wedding ceremony I took last month. And although planning your wedding from the other side of the world may present challenges (I've done a few like this now) in the end, everything always comes together beautifully.

When you mix a delicious cake and a gorgeous baby...

Naming ceremonies are a wonderful way to welcome your new addition into the family. So whether it's for your new-born baby, toddler or older child, what better way to celebrate them than to hold a Naming Ceremony, surrounded by your nearest and dearest.

I can write a beautiful ceremony that incorporates, not only your story as a couple and what brought you to the greatest job in the world; parenting, but we can also include, poems, readings, music and symbolic rituals like a Sand Ceremony, Tree Planting or a Hand Printing.

And of course, there should always be cake...
