CHANGE OF GUEST SINGER for Wednesday April 2nd -

STEVE TILSTON has flu and has had to cancel upcoming gigs including ours.

We have arranged last minute alternative guests - MILTON HIDE who are Jim Tipler and Jo Church from East Sussex weaving eloquent, well-crafted story-based songs. Jim’s guitar and Jo’s clarinet blend perfectly with the duo’s pure vocal harmonies.

"Hi Folkers
It’s time to tune up your instruments and voices for next Friday’s folk club. You are the main act so I hope you are all ready. The weather is getting warmer and the evenings are lighter so let’s sing and play to welcome the spring. The clocks ‘spring’ forward on March 30th.
See you there".

'Folk Week Presents' is a new monthly addition to our music calendar, featuring high quality folk singers and musicians.
To be held at 5pm on Sunday evenings, each month will feature a different performer from the world of folk music, from traditional to modern, including English, Celtic and international sounds.

We kick off on the 9th March with Contemporary folk/acoustic duo Gilmore & Roberts, who combine award- winning songwriting with astounding musicianship and their trademark harmonies to create a powerful wall of sound.

Nominated three times at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, Katriona Gilmore (fiddle, mandolin) and Jamie Roberts (guitar) met while studying at Leeds College of Music and released their debut album in 2008.

You can find more details and buy tickets via thttps://thehorsebridge.org.uk/talks-events

This series is brought to you directly from Broadstairs Folk Week in conjunction with Broad Reach Records

Henry Says-
Rest assured the mirth or stress of your festive endeavours will soon be packed away for another year. Make way for traditional Hoodener mayhem plus your very goodselves at the last Last Friday of 2024. Those of you have yet to experience the full Hoodener in person you'd never forgive yourself if you missed this one. Hoodening in the Kent tradition (perhaps look it up) is classic re-enactment of a very loose story wrapped in this case by wonderful kletzmer music from the auxiliary performers in the ensemble. You know you've deserved this so do trot along, be there or be square as I've oft said before.
Thanks to all for supporting our endeavours this past year and we look forward to hearing /seeing you next. This'll be my last missive so you'll be getting more coherent reminders in future. All the best

Henry

Our Story

Whitstable Folk Club most often has a singaround format with a feature guest. The guest is included in the singaround but with an extended spot. It's all very informal and we welcome all comers to sing, play, dance or just watch/listen. We have a changeable entrance fee for Guest nights and on singers nights without guests we ask for a £2.00 contribution at the door for all. We have a ‘sister’ event on the ‘First Friday’ of each month at The Coach & Horses pub in Oxford St, Whitstable, CT5 1DB. This is primarily a traditional tunes session but where singers are welcome. The session is led by Mike Greenwood with his restored hurdy gurdy Mme ‘Belle Mamie’ de Jenzat (age 117 3/4). Commence at 8pm and no charge to join in.
