Well as we draw towards year end who knows what's instore for us. Yes reflective mode this month. No surprise for many of you I've now moved to North Yorkshire but will be at the club this week and hopefully for the Hoodeners madness, music and mayhem on Friday 27th December. Alan and Nigel will be the guiding lights thereafter. This week it's your very good selves as the star attractions so you know it should be a good evening. See you there.

Well here we are again. Summer draws to an end and clocks about to change. We've cast a much broader net for our guest than usual, Steve Suffet hails from New York and plays limited UK appearances. I was reminded of early Tom Paxton/60's protest songs but no doubt you'll have your own views.
If you want a preview you can employ the services of the tinternet https://stevesuffet.com/biography.html
This as I say often is one you shouldn't miss so hopefully see you all on Friday.

Our 'Last Friday' guest artist this month October 25th is Steve Suffet all the way from the USA to our back room.

All of Steve's performances in the UK, except October 21,
are to support the nonprofit Peoples' Voice Cafe in New York City.
October 21 performance is to support Saint Gemma's Hospice in Leeds.
Steve does all of these as an unpaid volunteer at his own expense.

Our guest artist at Whitstable Folk Club for October is STEVE SUFFET.

From the USA on his UK tour, Steve Suffet is best described as an old fashioned folksinger. His repertoire is a mixture of railroad songs, trucker songs, coal miner songs, cowboy songs, union songs, old time ballads, blues, ragtime, Gospel, bluegrass, topical-political songs, Woody Guthrie songs, Irish songs, and whatever else tickles his fancy. He takes songs from whatever sources he wishes and then he sings them his own way, maybe rewriting the lyrics on the spot or changing a major key to a mountain modal.

Steve also writes his own songs, sometimes set to the tunes of traditional folk songs, but more often set to an original tune written in traditional style. Some of Steve's songs have appeared in The Folk Process section of Sing Out! magazine over the years. Others can be found in The Digital Tradition on-line folk song database, as well as in the archives of the Centre for Political Song at Glasgow Caledonian University. Many have been played on folk music radio programs throughout the USA, as well as in Canada, Israel, New Zealand, Australia, and the United Kingdom.

Henry says:-
Well here we are again . This months Last Friday brings you a not totally unfamiliar to you folks act; as its Nigel Hobbins and Diane Comley. No massive introductions necessary it's Nigel so they'll do what it says on the tin (well cd cover anyhows). There may well be some new tracks or not you'll just have to turn up and enjoy the evening to find out. Obviously with your good selves providing the support how can you fail to have a splendid time. See you there then .

Yep it's that time of the month. You're the stars and not for the first time you may add. Well done you.
Summer may be drawing to a close but the sun still shines in the back room of the Labour Club. So make an evening of it, see you there, you know it makes sense.

We have a ‘sister’ event on the ‘First Friday’ of each month at The Coach & Horses pub in Oxford St, Whitstable, CT5 1DB. This is primarily a traditional tunes session but where singers are welcome. The session is led by Mike Greenwood with his restored hurdy gurdy Mme ‘Belle Mamie’ de Jenzat (age 117 3/4). Commence at 8pm and no charge to join in.
