Well here we are for some of you deja-vu all over again.
Yep it's that time of the month. You're the stars and not for the first time you may add. Well done you.
Summer may be drawing to a close but the sun still shines in the back room of the Labour Club. So make an evening of it, see you there, you know it makes sense.

Mark Lawson - Funeral arrangements - please could you pass on to your members -

As many of you will know, Mark Lawson, founder member of Dead Horse Morris and larger than life character in the south east Morris / Folk / Shanty scene, died last month.

We have had many requests from people for details of his funeral. Can I ask that you please pass these on to those who might have known Mark, as I am not in contact with every individual personally.

We have been given the following information about Mark's funeral from his brother.

Thursday 29 August 2024:
09.30 - Church service at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception RC church, Northwood Rd, Whitstable.

11.00 - Faversham Crematorium, ME13 9H.

The location of the wake is yet to be decided by his family. As soon as we know, we will pass on the information.

Mark had said, and this has been echoed by his brothers, that he wanted a 'Morris' Funeral, so please come in kit if you

are happy to do so.

We anticipate that at some point during the day, we will dance in his honour and memory.

As a founder member of Dead Horse Morris, the Shipwright Shanty Crew and Whistable Hoodeners, as well being involved in setting up Rochester Sweeps Festival and Faversham Hop festival, I know you will agree that he deserves the best send off that we can give him.

I would be grateful if you could also pass on the information to anyone who knew Mark and may want it.

If you have any queries, please let me know, and I will ask his family

Kind regards,

Angali.

Angali Clifton-Fearnside,

"Last Friday time folks. We've the ASHEN KEYS as our featured act, they're a multi-instrumental trio (one of whom lives locally) who played the Sweeps festival in Rochester to great reviews and support at for a Folk in the Barn gig. Yes I'll stop wittering . As usual its 8pm prompt kick off so hope to see you all then. As I'm getting more doddery on the balance front any help with putting chairs out a little earlier would be appreciated."

This month at Whitstable Folk Club, we bring you guest artists THE ASHEN KEYS.

The Ashen Keys are a multi instrumental, multi voiced celebration of heartfelt storytelling from Kent. Their sound tells of influences from folk, blues, pop, classical and even early music. Expect to be taken on a journey through dark folk tales, bittersweet love stories and reveries on nature, all with exquisite vocal harmonies and unique instrumentation.
