Caroline started her life as a florist at the age of 14, She was looking in the local shops for a Saturday Job - feeling a bit disheartened after being turned down in every shop she went into, she had one shop left - a florist shop, she nearly didn't bother to go in, but did and was offered a Saturday job straight away. She learnt from her mother that as a child she would pick the flowers from her Grandmothers garden at the age of 6 and make bunches of flowers to give out to the passing ladies over the garden gate.( Nothing changes! )
She loved working in the florist and decided to look for an apprenticeship in floristry for when she left school, In those days to go to college was very expensive and her parents couldn't afford to send her, so she got a job in another local florist to do a work place training apprenticeship. She was trained by a very experienced florist who had worked for Moyses Stevens - the Queens florist no less!!! After 4 years she became a fully qualified Florist and went on to become a senior florist in another local florist. Jump forward 10 Years and having 2 small children she decided that she would start teaching Floristry at College - She loved passing on her skills to willing students and had a pure sense of achievement when they gained distinctions in their exams.
Now in the year 2000 and marrying her now Husband Ivan, She had always dreamed of having her own shop but had never had the encouragement to go ahead. Ivan wanted her to fulfil her dream and was 100% behind her to find her shop. She found a small shop in Wickford which was so rotten the floor had disintegrated - Ivan worked day and night to fix it to the specifications Caroline wanted and opened Daisy Chain Florist in Wickford in November 2000.
After a few years, The florist trade started to take a hit when more people were buying flowers online and not from Florist Shops, She loved doing the Wedding Flowers and decided that the time had come to specialise in Wedding & Event Flowers, she didn't need a shop to do this and looked for a Barn to have as her studio, She decided that Daisy Chain didn't sound very weddingy, so she decided to name it The Orchid Room - as her late father loved Orchids it would be in honour of him ( He always encouraged her to be a florist when she was young, saying that Floristry won't be taken over by Robots!! Bless him!) He was right.
