21/03/24 Phil Shotton & Matt Lawton.
Making a seasonal return to the Bailiff Bar are Phil Shotton and Matt Lawton; on tenor saxophone and double bass. Covering a range of jazz styles, Phil regularly performs alongside many national and international jazz artists and has appeared at major jazz festivals, venues and music festivals throughout the country and abroad. Highly sought-after as both a performer and recording artist, Phil has released two albums under his own name and appeared on numerous recordings as a sideman.

JaMB are a guitar trio cast in the image of the classic trios of the 50s and 60s. They play a mix of well known standards, adaptations of later tunes and some original compositions by guitarist, Jim Bannister. Like Jim, Barry and Mark are experienced musicians and teachers who have graced the stages of the North West, UK and beyond over their extensive careers. Expect to hear a range of styles, encompassing swing, bop, latin and ballads with solos by all the members of the band. Guitar: Jim Bannister, Bass: Barry Howard, Drums: Mark Whiteman.

Blending sophisticated harmonies and infectious grooves, the Kevin Bates Band explores modern jazz fusion through a wide selection of standards and original tunes. Led by Kevin Bates on guitar, the quartet features Mark Whiteman on drums, Barry Howard on bass and Marcus Schofield on keys. With diverse influences such as, Pat Metheny, Avishai Cohen, Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock, together the group are guaranteed to provide a musical journey of lush textures and melodic sensibility.

Returning to the The Old Courts, Mike Ciaputa is known for his past performances across the North West, both with the Ciaputa Trio and as a solo artist. Performing a new set that bridges his previous trio project and his solo acoustic endeavours, including music from the 'String Theory' album, prepare to be immersed in a sonic landscape that seamlessly blends organic acoustic tones with ambient electric textures. Mike's musical palette is rich and diverse, Influenced by the likes of Stuart McAllum, Andy Mckee, Mateus Asato, Gilad Hekselman, and Julian Lange. His compositions reflect a modern jazz ethos that defies genre boundaries. Delve into an evening of intricate melodies and masterful guitar craftsmanship and a love of all things guitar.
21/11/24 Luke Gee. Guitar / Vocalist.
Luke Gee is a familiar face on the North West music scene, especially around the Wigan area. As a solo artist, and a member of several of Wigan’s popular music scene bands. Including Tommy Jones’s Quaintest Show on Earth. Luke is a highly skilled guitar player, with his own unique energy and playing style. With a keen interest in jazz, and a phenomenal musical style across all genres, this will be Luke’s second visit to The Bailiff Bar as a player of jazz, and we look forward to welcoming him to back to play his set.
