❣️ Happy happy Valentine’s Day to all the couples who have got married here at Deans Court and to everyone set to tie the knot here in 2024 and beyond! ❣️ We absolutely love creating your perfect day and so enjoy seeing how different and wonderful each and every wedding is!
Great to have @stones_throw_veg back in the kitchen garden with his fab team of volunteers preparing the soil and planting raspberries 👩🌾🧑🌾
Raspberries are great at multiplying which means there are lots of new plants and we have more than doubled the space we are using to grow them. This means lots of summer and Autumn homegrown raspberries for the Dean Court cafe. Yum!
Here you can see the team using carpets to try and control the bind weed. When we weed it grows straight back 😬 so this is a short term solution to help kill off as much as we can🤞.
Each January members of our team journey to India to embark on our annual buying trip in Delhi, Jaipur and Udaipur. Anyone that's been to India will know that the sounds, sights, smells and wonderful, hectic chaos of the country hit you as soon as you get off the plane - abruptly putting an end to the English countryside Christmas bubble we've been in for most of December! Each year we revisit the small industries, shops and makers that we have got to know but also explore new areas and make new connections, seeking out recommended suppliers so we can return to Dorset with a full and varied selection of wonderful things for our home store! This video is taken at one of the little industries in Jaipur in which we have clothes made and shows a skilled worker hand block printing fabric which he will then make into dresses that we have designed. These will be available in our home store later this year!
The mayflies are hatching on our chalk stream, and the trout are rising for them. This is the best time of year to go fly fishing! Did you know that 85% of the world’s chalk streams are in England? With their gin-clear waters and verdant banks they have been rightly described as the ‘Rain Forests of Britain’. To book a day’s fly fishing with us visit our website (link in bio). Thanks to @patagonianphotosafaris for this brilliant clip, shot on our river. WH
Handmade Indian rugs, bags and cushions 💫 The buying team’s adventures continue and they’re now in Jaipur, the largest city in Rajasthan, exploring workshops and factories and discovering so many exciting goodies to bring back to the home store 💜🙌💛 Everything we’re sourcing is handmade and from small, independent workshops and designer who treat their staff fairly and create their wares using tradional Indian techniques.

Simnel
Meet Simnel, our first little lamb to be born this year 🐑. He arrived early this morning and he's the sweetest little chap, and already making lots of noise! What a perfect Easter present ✨
Rainy day chores - time to juice the apples 🍎. We use an old fashioned, manual apple press to juice all our apples. We have over 30 varieties growing in our organic orchard, we collect the windfalls, freeze them and then defrost them before juicing. Freezing the apples changes their cellular structure so once defrosted they are almost like sponges and press very easily, producing a clear sweet juice which we serve in the cafe on its own and in our health juices and also use in the kitchen to naturally sweeten cakes.
The mayfly have gone but the trout are still here. Only 2 months to go before the fly fishing season closes - book now for late summer fishing days here on the River Allen: http://www.deanscourt.org/website/Fishing/. This 'rise' was captured on the river here in May by wildlife photographer Simon Littlejohn - wildaslife.com.
We’ve just stocked the river so there’s plenty of sport to be had Fly-Fishing on our Chalk Stream. The mayfly season is short and sweet and chalk stream fly-fishing simply doesn’t get better than this. So if you love fly-fishing then take the day off, check your flies and get your rod out! Booking here: http://deanscourt.org/website/Fishing/
Lambing
In the midst of lambing season at Deans Court and loving welcoming this little lot into the world.
How do you go about cutting up a giant pumpkin? Here's how...
1,000 years after the Vikings sacked Wimborne, they're back! ...at the Wimborne History Festival today. Continues tomorrow - full details at www.wimbornehistoryfestival.org.uk.
Last week the mayfly hatched on our chalk stream, The River Allen. Here they are performing their mating dance. After they've danced, the female drops onto the river to lay her eggs, and the trout rise to eat them. After the lean winter months the trout are hungry and hyperactive - which makes the river heaven for fly fishing! We offer 1 and 2 day fishing breaks and provide accommodation, click here to learn more about them. http://www.deanscourt.org/website/Fishing/
