You will be absolutely spoilt for choice, we’ve literally harvested and dried thousands of flowers, foliage and seed heads for you to create a truly unique wreath to take pride of place in your home which will last for years to come. Bring a friend along there will be plenty of time for chatter and time to catch up and of course all whilst sampling our rather delicious homemade cakes.

🌸✨ **A Bridal Bouquet in the Making** ✨🌸

Creating the perfect bridal bouquet is truly a labour of love, one that starts long before the big day!

🌱 **Growing the Flowers**: Our journey begins with nurturing the flowers in our field many of which we have grown from seed. This can take months if not years for specific flowers such as peonies before they reach a point when we can harvest them.

💍 **Meeting the Bride**: Next, we sit down with the bride to discuss her vision and ideas. Understanding her style and preferences is essential in crafting wedding flowers that reflects her style and personality. We never promise a particular flower (we are dealing with Mother Nature here) but we will always interpret her dreamed of style and colour palette as closely as we possibly can.

💦 **TLC in the Fields**: While the flowers grow, we shower them with tender loving care, attention to detail is so important if the flowers are going to perform at their best.

✂️ **Creating the wedding flowers** Finally, the moment arrives! We hand-select a stunning array of flowers, choosing each one at its peak for the wedding day. Throughout this process, we remain committed to honoring the bride’s vision, ensuring her wedding flowers are as close as we can possibly manage to her vision to ensure that her day is as perfect as it possibly can be.

🌸And the wonderful bit (if slightly nerve wracking) when we get to hand over the flowers to the bride and see her delight which makes every bit of planning and hard work absolutely worth it!

It is always a privilege to be asked to provide flowers for a wedding. I am always well aware of the responsibility of fulfilling a ‘brief’ to ensure that the flowers we provide are everything that our couple envisioned.

So it was an absolute pleasure to receive these gorgeous photos following our first wedding of this season. A&E were very clear in their vision for an ‘earthy’ palette and I don't think it could have worked better. Amy worked her magic and created the most stunning bouquet of flowers for the bride and I think the resulting photos captured by in the beautiful setting of are just stunning.

Congratulations to the happy couple and wishing them every happiness in their future lives together.

Did you know that this week it is ‘Dying Matters Awareness Week’? The organisers aim to encourage people to ‘join the conversation about death, dying and grief, and explore how the way we talk about Dying Matters’.

To find out more information about dying awareness week check out their website https://www.hospiceuk.org where you will find lots of information and support.

Why am I talking about this now? Well, to coincide with this week a new initiative from the floristry industry has been launched - The Farewell Flowers Directory - and I am delighted to say that Lower Norton Flower Farm is one of their pioneering members.

Floral tributes for a loved ones funeral can bring much comfort to bereaved family and friends. To have a beautiful display of flowers feels such a natural show of love and celebration of a life. A thoughtful gesture that can be a true reflection of the unique life that has just ended.

The Farewell Flowers Directory aim is to connect people to florists across the UK offering natural, beautiful and compostable funeral arrangements. A positive, practical response to the huge issue of plastic waste in funeral floristry, The Farewell Flowers Directory is on a mission to change the world of funeral flowers one compostable arrangement at a time. By demonstrating just how beautiful naturally designed funeral flowers can be without the use of floral foam or single use plastic.

Equally importantly to us here at Lower Norton Flower Farm is to provide a supportive and caring service where your memories of your loved one are central to the floral tribute that we create and a natural celebration of their lives - and if we can do that in a way that has less impact on our environment then surely that’s got to be a good thing?

Giving myself permission today to enjoy my flowers all by myself felt like a real treat.

I’ll admit the last few weeks have been a bit of a slog, the weather has been trying, to say the least, and lots of work has been going on behind the scenes here, taking me away from my flowers (and my happy place). Hopefully though all this work with pay off and and we will finally be able to reveal the ‘facelift’ that Lower Norton Flower Farm has been undergoing over the past few months.

In the meantime I leave you with my afternoon of therapy and yes, I do feel much better. Hope this bowl (actually a jelly mould) of Spring’s delights lifts your mood too.

Ps last photo was the reality of my little photo shoot, Mishka is not one to miss out on a photo opportunity.

Take care.

Hands up those of you who left their Dahlias to over winter in the ground and are now wondering what the likelihood of them having survived the soaking they have received over the past few months?

I most certainly am! If they survive this winter I’m never going to dig up a dahlia tuber ever again. Well, that’s a little bit of an exaggeration but I think you get my meaning.

Fortunately, we have an extra 300 new dahlia tubers which we have just potted up, most of which will be heading out to the new pick your own area. Well, when I say ‘we’ it was actually Alex who has spent the last couple of days surrounded by pots, labels, compost and dahlia tubers.

So, this summer we’re either going to have 500 dahlias (300 new + 200 valiant ones that survived the winter in the ground) or we’ll just have 300 dahlias and two borders that will need filling with flowers of some description which I never see as a particular problem and, as we are in the process (‘we’ again being mostly Alex) of sowing a zillion seeds, I really don’t think we are going to be short of a flower or two this summer!

Heading into 2024. This is us. Alison, Amy and Alex. The new look team for Lower Norton Flower Farm.

We are absolutely going to go for it this year. We’re all up for the challenge and there’s lots of work going on behind the scenes here at the moment to make sure we hit the ground running in April when our season really begins. So what are we doing differently this year?

🌸Alex and Amy are taking on more responsibilities for the day to day running of the business. Taking some of the strain off from me.

🌸Our flower studio is having a makeover. A new entrance is about to be put in and a kitchen area added. This will make access easier and allow for outside hire.

🌸We are going to be offering more workshops throughout the year. We love them and we’ve had such great feed back. Dates are being added to the website very shortly.

🌸We will continue to develop our DIY weddings from offering simply, beautiful curated buckets of the very best of the flowers in our field, to creating designs for the bridal party and more. This is something we all love to be involved in from meeting the bride (and often the groom) to discuss their dream flowers, to finally presenting the flowers carefully picked, conditioned and created into the most gorgeous designs and curated buckets. We will also be offering substainable Farewell Flowers

🌸Most excitingly we are increasing our growing space by a further acre so that we can create an area specifically for Pick Your Own flowers, more about this to follow.

🌸We will continue to offer wholesale flowers to florists. We have met so many wonderful and talented florists, who have been an absolute delight to work with. Seeing the photos of what these clever people create with the flowers that we have grown in our field inspires us to grow more and expand the varieties that we offer.

So this is us, lots of plans, lots of work but feeling inspired and ready to crack on!!

Relieved to see that our Eucalyptus is still standing after yesterday’s storm. Hope all of your gardens/flower fields survived intact.

I think we’ve probably had enough rain for the time being so whoever out there is in charge of the weather could I please put in a request for some lovely frosty autumnal days so that we can enjoy the autumn leaves before they get blown away by the next storm! Thank you!

28/10/2023

There is a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes on our flower farm, much of it is not very glamorous. Hedging to be planted, irrigation to be laid, mulch to be spread, supports for the plants to be put up, mowing to be done, edges to be edged, the list goes on. These jobs have to be done to ensure that the flower field not only looks good but works as efficiently as possible.

There is on person in particular who I owe a great big thank you to, Tom, my husband has turned his hand to all these jobs (whilst managing to be a full time arable farmer too) and more with very little grumbling!

Without Tom’s backup Lower Norton Flower Farm would not be the blossoming business that it is today and I would not be in a position to be considering exciting new business developments for what started out as a ‘germ of an idea’ a few years ago.

There are lots of exciting discussions and strategy meetings going on at the moment as we map out what the future of Lower Norton Flower Farm is going to look like. Exciting times indeed and I will of course keep you all up to date with developments!

Thank you Tom you've been a superstar! Is now a good time to mention the mulching that needs to be done?! 😘

This bee and I are just taking a moment to enjoy the last of the dahlias for this year. Have no fear they will be back next year and we will have even more varieties for you to swoon over. I have a wish list of dahlias and it is growing daily, can you ever have too many dahlias in your life, I think not!

10/10/2023

Just when I thought the flower field had finished for the season it rewarded me with a pick like this. Autumnal colours in the evening sunlight picked on the 9th October what a way to bring our second season to a close.

There are a few small wholesale orders going out over the next couple of weeks but my focus now is putting the flower field ‘to bed’ for the coming winter.

What a season we’ve had, a bit too much rain at times has been challenging but, regardless the flowers have kept coming and we have filled many a bucket with countless stems and loved seeing where they end their journey. Whether it be a wedding, anniversary party, christening, gift bouquet or workshop the thrill of seeing our flowers being part of so many events and making so many memories brings me great pleasure.

We have so many plans for 2024 that we will be working on and developing over the winter months and will be very excited when we can reveal all!!

I so love my morning walk around the flower field especially, this morning as the sun rose over the flower field it really was a magical sight, holding so much promise for the rest of the day.

Today will be a day of sowing hardy annuals. My sights are very much on next year as the flowers in the field begin to fade. Lots of plans and lists of seeds to sow and perennial to plant so that hopefully, we will have even more flowers for you to enjoy with us next season.

I can’t tell you how satisfying this picture is to me in my role as a flower farmer. Our van packed with flowers, all of which have been grown here in our flower field ready to be delivered to a wedding venue.

Seeing our flowers journey from seed to arriving at a venue has to been one of the most rewarding aspects of what I do.

Gosh that was a quick week! Now that the flower field is slowing down we’ve been busy, busy clearing the borders of summer annuals in preparation of their winter mulch of lovely nutritious manure.

Lots of perennials have been ordered so I’m awaiting their delivery. I can’t actually remember what I ordered, I do have a list, somewhere, but would rather wait and be pleasantly reminded of my brilliant choices!

Sowing of seeds is well underway and lots of baby seedlings are jostling for position in the poly. Still plenty of sowing to go, mustn’t forget the sweet peas and those pesky ranunculus which have proved to be such ‘prima donnas’ and seem to curl up their roots at the slightest misstep on my part. They're on their final warning, if they let me down this year, that’s it never again, well, until next year when the catalogue arrives and I get won over by lots of pretty pictures!

The photos are of meadow boxes created by myself and Amy for our local church’s flower festival. We had such a lovely time creating them and are delighted to be able to add meadow boxes to our DIY wedding menu.

Such a great group of ladies we had join us last weekend for a Hen Party. The flower crown workshop was very ably led by Julia and assisted by the ever lovely Amy and Alex who as always made sure that everyone had a lovely time and were very well looked after.

We were seriously impressed by all the flower crowns created. All beautiful, all unique and all made using only flowers and foliage picked from our flower field.

Then having completed their crowns it was off outside into our flowerfield where Alex took some great photos as momentos for them of their special time spent together. I particularly love the picture of them all packed into the campervan which was destined to take the newly weds off on their honeymoon!!

Congratulations to J&C and wishing them all the happiness in their future lives together.

04/09/2023

We’ve tried to make time this summer for what I call ‘flower playtime’. And, whilst it is an extremely fun way to spend a day, there is a reason behind it.

It allows us time to experiment, not only with the foam free mechanics that we use but also with different vessels to see how we can achieve that natural and uncontrived look we are striving for.

It’s lovely to see Amy’s confidence grow the more she works with our flowers. I think Amy will agree that one of her happiest places to be is designing with flowers. The first two pictures are both a style of arrangement that we would like to offer our Bespoke DIY wedding clients. Created here in our workshop, ready to be collected or delivered to the venue, we need to make sure that the arrangements are stable enough to cope with being moved and possibly transported by our DIY clients. I think we're getting there, especially thanks to Alex for designing a base which makes them far more stable.

The last photo is a low bowl design by Amy. Amy accepts that she got carried away with her low bowl brief, allowing her creativity to take over! I love the end result. Especially with the addition of the grapes, literally plucked from the vine over head, I think they take the arrangment to a new level!! With the grapes and white (Toga-like) sheet there is definitely a non wedding scenario going on in my imagination!

The photos were beautifully styled and captured by Alex . Alex is also getting more and more involved in the flower arranging, the first design being created by Alex and Amy (and with a little help from me!).

Once we have perfected these designs we will be adding them to the options available within our DIY wedding package so keep an eye on our website for more details. www.lowernortonflowerfarm.com

I’ve just had the best morning out on the flower field.

It started with two friends joining us here for our Tea and Posy Making Experience. Their obvious delight at their first sight of the flower field was infectious. A tour of the field followed by posy making in our Flower Workshop finished off with tea and homemade cake seemed to be a couple of hours very happily spent, playing with flowers and catching up with a friend, what more could you want?

I then welcomed our Pick Your Own guests to the field and they were a super bunch too. Enthusiastic, delighted with being able to select and pick their own flowers straight from the field. It’s such a lovely sight when people have completed their pick to see their delight in the bucket of flowers that they get to take home.

Our visitors enthusiasm today for all that we have achieved here so far was a real affirmation that we are on the right path for what we are trying to do. And that is to create a destination that could be described as a flowery haven. Somewhere to loose yourself, surrounded by border upon border of flowers that have been specifically grown to be picked. A completely absorbing experience, whether it be attending one of our workshops or simply choosing which flower should be selected next to join the beautiful selection of blooms in your Pick Your Own bucket.

We want our guests to leave us feeling refreshed, inspired, relaxed, proudly bearing flowers to fill their homes with colour and scent, a reminder of a few hours well spent!
