By buying a tree from us you support them too.

A lovely afternoon hosting Sampford Courtenay Flower Club for tea & cake and a spot of Wreath Making

Thank you to the lovely Winkleigh Fair Comte for asking us to create their Remembrance Wreath Catkin Blooms style

We used a copper ring covered in sustainably sourced moss filled with Holly from a local farm, our homegrown Bay leaves & Douglas Fir, British grown Rose hips & a touch of Skimmia from our plants in the shop. Including 11 Poppies from our British Legion poppy box here in the shop.
The ring & the poppy holders can be reused & the foliage will biodegrade. We've also made some on biodegradable willow wreath bases

We observed the 2 minute silence in the shop today & remembered the brave souls that have been lost & our thoughts go out to all those currently suffering the effects of war

The perfect time to plant TULIPS & spring Flowering bulbs.
We have a selection of bulbs here in Winkleigh- 2 packs for £5
Absolute bargain. They look fabulous in pots next to the door or in drifts in the garden, putting on great floral displays from February through to May. We've also got the last of our Wildflower Seeds on offer too- if you fancy planting a little Wildflower meadow for next year, now is the time!
You can plant all of these in the ground up to Christmas really but let's be honest it's only going to get colder & wetter & busier.
It's November tomorrow! Now that is scary!

BRITISH 🇬🇧 GROWN 💐BLOOMS

Look at the sumptuous bounty that British Flower Growers can offer you at this time of year there is so much depth of colour & texture to enjoy whilst feeling good at the sametime🧡

There is a smaller impact on the world if we all source more of what we like nearer to us.
🇬🇧
All if our packaging is biodegradable, we use brown paper, tissue & natural raffia. Our aqua bouquets come in reuseable boxes with water bags- we accept these back & are happy to reuse them. Our Friday Flowerclub is made into reused glass vases, again which we wash & reuse every week. We are also delighted to receive your donated unwanted glass vases & give them another useful life.

All of our flowers are British grown, either by us, by other locals & brought into the shop in reused buckets. Or from Cornwall growers, delivered by themselves in reuseable boxes (any plastic is returned) or if we go further afield for lovely flowers from Lincolnshire then they come by courier wrapped in paper (which we reuse) packed in cardboard boxes which several other local businesses collect from us & then reuse.

All of our green waste produced in the shop is composted, alongwith our spent coffee grounds & unusable cardboard.

We are working really hard to be sustainable & environmentally conscious. We reuse chicken wire or sustainably grown moss in most of our designs or woven frames from local willow.

We don't use flower food in plastic sachets. You don't need to. Just keep your flower vessel really clean & change the water every few days & ideally re snip the stems to allow them to drink again!

Every purchase from us helps us to support other small scale businesses that care about the world & our impact on it.

B L O O M I N G 🌿T A L K
A fabulous & informative talk tonight from Dr Flick about Gardening for Climate Change, theres so much we can do as individual Gardeners.

There was also group discussion about what we can do collectively to reduce our emissions & garden more sustainably, readying ourselves for the future & more unpredictable weather patterns in our local communities.

Such as making our own compost, collecting more rain & wastewater, seed swapping, growing more food & mowing less!

We also had an introduction from David on Tiny Forests & what they are experimenting with locally by planting trees close together & watching the incredible effects.

A donation from tonight's ticket price will go towards the work of the Garden Recovery Group to do more planting in the local area.

We're keen to host more Blooming Talks on anything with an environmental focus happening in our locality so please get in touch if you'd like to run one or come along to one!

Great time this Autumn to have a go at sowing a Flower meadow & we have lots of mixed flower seed bags in the shop 🌼🌾🌸🌿🐝pop in & take a look 👀

What a success! 🌺 🦋 Michael from Devon lives in the countryside, but wanted to do more to help nature in the garden. Last year, they created a wildflower meadow in one of the laws which attracted lots of insects - and this year they went all out!

Michael says:
"We removed turf, raked it over, and planted wild seeds. Within a week, signs of life appeared, and after a month, a beautiful mosaic of wildflowers was created. The patch now hosts a variety of life forms, including butterflies, hoverflies, bees, ladybird lava, and other insects. We are proud to do our bit for nature.”

Our next Blooming Talk being held here on Wednesday 4th October 6-8pm

Some of you may already know Flick who lives and gardens locally, she is coming to give us an interactive and informative talk about how our gardens are being affected by Climate Change and how as Gardeners we can be part of the solution.

NATURAL🌾FUNERAL🌻FLOWERS
Pictured is a naturally styled floral tribute arrangement for the top of a casket.
We wove a frame from Corkscrew Hazel branches tied for extra security with biodegradable twine.
Seasonal foliage was then woven through the frame to create a large foliage base which the locally grown flowers were then inserted in to.
The entire arrangement can be left to breakdown naturally, leaving nothing behind.

We're looking for a new Treescapes Officer to join our team. As part of the Saving Devon's Treescapes project, your role would be to provide advisory services to landowners and farmers. You'll also support the team to deliver and plant approximately 25,000 trees per year. 🌳

If you enjoy practical conservation work, being in the wider countryside, have good communication skills and the ability to develop strong working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, we'd love to hear from you!

G A R D E N 🌿 T I M E
With a bit of time off I'm checking in with my garden again, reflecting on the Summer - what's been good this year, what's been trashed by the weather or growers neglect!
💮Pic 1 is Japanese Anemones, just starting to look fabulous, the white is my favourite. I'm giving my big patch a break this year. I cut them hard last year, took nearly every flower & every bud. Relieved to see they have forgiven me x
💗Pic 2 is a favourite this year Veronicastrum, lovely for cutting with straight long stems & the bees love them
🌸Pic 3 is a big 'small win' for me! I LOVE Echinacea (Cone Flower) but I've been trying for years to grow them & this year I think I've finally got a plant established! Won't be cutting any flowers from her though, she's beautiful
🤍Pic 4 is a small 'big loss' I LOVE these Lysimachia Clethroides & have an established a nice size patch but missed them coming up again this year- I was too busy cutting buckets of Apple Mint in the next door bed. Every year I promise I'm going to frame or string them. Every year I forget & I end up with beautiful flower heads & crazy curly stems- no use in bouquets!
I still have so much to learn!

🍚 Locally Made Ceramics 🍚
Today we had a new delivery from of her fabulous bowls, vases & plates locally made near Hatherleigh.
Anyone who knows me well or has been to my house or has been to a workshop here already knows I'm a MASSIVE fan of her Ceramics especially the white bowls & beakers. I LOVE them. We have our mulled cider at Christmas in them.
So much so, that we don't have any white beakers left for sale at the mo as I brought all of them for our up & coming Spanish night as water beakers.
But we do have some green ones ceramic beakers here & some fantastic duck egg blue bowls that would make the best presents ever!
I got over excited at their arrival I had to calm down with a delicious Cherry 🍒Yogurt from
Pop in & take a look, we're in Bissetts Garage on Exeter Road in Winkleigh & you could always have a coffee while you mooch between rain showers!

P L A N T E D 🌼 W R E A T H S
This vibrant & colourful mossed wreath was made with seasonal flowers & foliage including Achillea, Helichrysum, Echinops, Alliums & H**e nestled in between planted Ivy's, Dianthus & Osteospermums. Inside were added so wildflowers will blossom in the future when this is laid to rest somewhere special 💚
We are always keen to create bespoke designs for Farewell Flowers that feel personal, relevant & appropriate using British Grown flowers that reflect the change in seasons. They are an honour to create 🌱🌻

A massive thank you to everyone who voted for us in the 2023 MUDDY AWARDS 🏆💐👠

We had such a fantastic time last night hosted by lovely Lisa & team meeting such an incredible bunch of entrepreneural business people from ALL over Devon!
We collected our award which is now framed & up in the shop, alongwith with a fabulous Gin & Tonic
If that wasn't exciting enough I also got to meet which I know my Mum in particular will be very pleased about! An added bonus as this year we didn't get to

Look forward to our next trip out to the Best Sustainable Lifestyle Store in Devon in Cockington once we've found out where that is!

What a great event to be apart of thank you for highlighting the independent businesses & all their hard work 🙏
