Muay Thai, also known as Thai boxing, has its origins in the ancient battlefield tactics of the Siamese army, which is now Thailand. Want to know more about the history of it? 👇🫡

Sukhothai dynasty:
Around the 13th century, the first Thai army was formed to protect the kingdom, and soldiers were taught both armed and unarmed combat.

Muay Boran:
An ancient style of Muay Thai that was used by Thai soldiers. Muay Boran incorporated more wrestling techniques than modern-day Muay Thai.

Krabi Krabong:
Muay Thai evolved from Krabi Krabong, which means “long and short weapons”.

Early bouts:
Early Muay Thai bouts were unarmed combat with few rules, no weight divisions, or time limits.

Popularity:
Muay Thai bouts became popular and were eventually shown in stadia across the country.

King Prachao Sua:
The first known practice of Muay Thai as a sport occurred during the reign of King Prachao Sua (1697-1709 A.D.).

Nai Khanom Dtom:
In 1774, Nai Khanom Dtom made Muay Thai famous for his battle against a group of Burmese while he was a prisoner of war in Burma.

Rattanakosin Kingdom era:
Around the 18th-early 20th century, Muay Thai was formally became a national sport.
