SEOsonal Keywords to help attract more customers this Christmas! 👀

SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) is all about helping people find your business online by using the right words on your website. By updating your floristry website with Christmas-specific keywords, you’re making it easier for local customers searching for festive arrangements to discover your business.

Here’s how to make the most of seasonal search terms and bring in more local customers:

✨ Festive Keywords with a Local Twist: Think about what your nearby customers might be typing, like “Christmas flowers in [Your Town]” or “Door wreaths in [Your Area].” Adding your town, city, or neighbourhood helps attract local traffic from people searching for Christmas florals close to home.

✨ Get Specific with Product Descriptions: If you’re offering Christmas bouquets, wreaths, or table centrepieces, include these keywords in your product listings. Don’t forget phrases like “Christmas flower delivery in [Your City]” to reach customers looking for holiday delivery options nearby.

✨ Update Your Homepage: Feature festive keywords prominently on your homepage, like “Christmas bouquets in [Your Location].” This helps your most-visited page capture local searches and spotlight your seasonal offerings.

✨ Blog with Local Keywords: If you’re posting Christmas decorating tips or gift ideas, weave local keywords into your titles and content. Topics like “Top Christmas Gifts in [Your Town]” can help draw in festive-minded visitors looking for inspiration.

✨ Emphasise Your Location in Service Pages: For delivery or click-and-collect services, mention your town and surrounding areas. Keywords like “flower delivery in [Nearby Areas]” can help attract more local customers needing quick & convenient products.

Have you updated your Christmas keywords yet? Let us know if these tips help get more eyes on your website - and bring in more festive orders! 🎁

Today is and at the BFA we are passionate about supporting our florist community and encourage all our members to embrace any opportunity to champion others; be that in person or virtually.

We’ve seen the amazing things that can be achieved when florists from across the UK come together – whether that’s in our monthly Bloom Rooms or during our in-person events. A ‘community over competition’ approach will only make our industry more vibrant and successful ✨

And, the best thing about showing kindness is it’s FREE and easy to do. Whether it’s positive comments on a fellow florist's social content, picking up the phone to offer someone support or contributing your ideas and views in our Bloom Rooms, building positive relationships with other businesses in our industry can lead to collaborations, partnerships, and mutual support in the future 🙌

So why not take today as the perfect opportunity to spread some kindness amongst our floral community?

We’d love to hear how kindness from other florists has helped you or the benefits you’ve felt from helping others. Let us know in the comments below ⬇️.

Meet Rebecca - a BFA member whose love for flowers blossomed from long summer days spent with her grandma in the garden🌱 Fast forward to 2021, and she’s now the proud founder of Oak & Ivy florists, a stunning floral studio located on her Warwickshire farm, where she and her son Jack bring her floral dreams to life.

Rebecca’s passion for floristry goes hand-in-hand with her love for nature. With access to homegrown flowers and foliage, she’s often spotted wandering her land with secateurs in hand, finding unique touches for her wedding and event arrangements. Her favorite projects? Large-scale installations that challenge her creativity and allow her to craft truly unforgettable pieces for her clients.

The hard work and creativity of Rebecca and her team have earned them multiple award nominations, including being awarded 2023 Best Florist for their region by Hitched! 🌟

Rebecca said: "Joining the BFA has given me the opportunity to demonstrate my skills to a wider audience. Since joining we feel truly part of a team, enjoying social events and working enthusiastically with a set of principles that follow our ethos for a more sustainable future in floristry."

We're sure you'll agree, Oak and Ivy's work looks spectacular 💫

📸 With the busiest time of year upon us, eye-catching photography can help you stand out 📸

Here are six top tips to make your festive images shine this Christmas:

1️⃣ Have a Strategy – Start with your marketing plan to make sure you’re capturing exactly what images you need. You will be more efficient with your time AND your marketing will be more effective as a result.

2️⃣ Plan Ahead – List where you'll use each shot so you’re not scrambling later! Different platforms need different dimensions, so a little prep goes a long way.

3️⃣ Capture Freshness – Snap photos when arrangements are just made. Show off details, unique angles, and maybe a florist in action!

4️⃣ Perfect with Props – Use pinecones, baubles, and ribbons to add seasonal charm and evoke the festive spirit.

5️⃣ Mind Your Background - Whether it’s in-store or a cosy home setting, a well-chosen backdrop sets the mood and reinforces your brand.

6️⃣ Stay Consistent - Stick to one style to create a cohesive look across your social feed. It’s like giving your brand a recognisable ‘signature.’

Running a floristry business is nonstop, especially in the run-up to Christmas, and sometimes it feels like there aren’t enough hours in the day - or night!

But getting good sleep isn’t just a luxury; it’s essential for managing stress and staying at your best. Poor sleep can amplify feelings of stress, making it harder to handle daily challenges and keep a clear mind in the busiest season.

Our partner, Perennial - Gardeners' Royal Benevolent Society, has a free Health & Wellbeing app packed with helpful resources to promote better sleep and reduce stress. In the app, you’ll find calming audio, meditations to help you unwind, and soothing sound baths to settle you back to sleep if you wake in the night.

This Stress Awareness Day, why not take a moment to explore Perennial’s app and see if these tools can help you find a little more rest and resilience? Discover more here https://perennial.org.uk/ways-we-help/your-health/health-wellbeing-app/

Our Editor, Emma, had the chance to interview master florist Björn Kroner-Salié whose career in floral design has taken him across the globe, winning awards and creating breath-taking designs along the way. You're already out there promoting your Christmas workshops and, in a blink of an eye, you'll be prepping your pre-orders!

So, whilst you're turning your attention to your festive promotion we're saving you a job by sharing our top picks for Instagram's 2024 Christmas hashtags!

We understand that promoting wreath workshops or sorting your website may be a higher priority right now, but we’re here to remind you not to forget them if you use Instagram. Hashtags are a useful tool to help ensure that your social content is being found beyond the audience already following you.

Here's some of the best general ones to support your social media activity over the coming weeks.

We also recommend using location hashtags, relevant to your local area and product specific hashtags relevant to what you're sharing such as . When selecting hashtags choose a mix of high (popular), medium and lesser-used hashtags to ensure you aren’t being drowned by the HUGE amount of festive retail noise.

These are our recommendations, but please share and comment below 👇 with any others that have worked for you and could be helpful to other florists.
