Loving this gallery sent to us by the fabulous this morning of Sinead’s set up for open day last month.

We love doing these smaller events because it’s a chance to work with a handful of local suppliers to create intimate settings which we can fill with creative touches.

We also adore because of its quirky, seaside setting, perfect for design-led couples to make their own.

I don’t know about you, but I think this has got a touch of Christmas cool about it.

Well, it happened…. We’ve only gone and done it 💜🤩🩷

So last year was the first year we entered where we won Highly Commended, a title we hold so dearly.

So now winning BEST WEDDING PLANNER FOR THE SOUTH EAST last night (eeeek) is something we are beyond proud of.

This could not have happened without our couples voting for us, so to you, we say a huge heartfelt thank you. We always create fantastic relationships with our clients and love being so invested in their wedding planning journey and beyond, that the relationships continue way after their wedding has happened. We form close bonds with our couples and it means the world to us that so many have taken the time to say such nice things about us 🥰

Last night was a blast. It was amazing to have met up with industry friends and form new friendships with other brilliant suppliers ♥️

What happens if it rains?

Our Great British weather 🌦️ has been sporadic over the past few years to say the least. While we can opt for the summer season to get the best chance of sunny skies, nowadays it’s not guaranteed and this is something our couples are nervous about.

When helping with your planning or coordination, we will always have a Plan B and even C, ensuring that even if the rain pours, it will not dampen your day…get it?

Our advice? Be aware that this is something that you do need to consider with an outdoor wedding or marquee wedding and whoever is holding your hand with your planning make sure they have spoken to you about a contingency plan.

Here at Luna And The Lane, we are good with the contingency plans…my wedding had a total soaking! But they say it’s good luck 😉

My favourite things about a summer wedding.

Every season provides its special treats when it comes to a wedding experience: the winter cosiness with twinkling lights, the spring with its gorgeous freshness and the feel of new beginnings (my favourite season) and the Autumn with its stunning palette of colours.

Summer weddings are still so popular with couples and so here are my favourite things about the season as a wedding professional…

The weather: In the UK we can never guarantee a hot summer or even a fully-dry one, but lets face it, we are probably going to get more dry days at this point in the year than at others. If you are having g a summer wedding and are lucky enough to get a dry day, you can take full advantage by using the outdoor space as much as possible.

There are so many opportunities for celebrating outside. These are some of our favourites:
Having an outdoor ceremony amongst the trees
Promenading your guests from he ceremony to the drinks reception
Lawn games and fun entertainment
Alfresco dining amongst nature
Cocktail hour in Orchards/meadows/lawns
Golden hour portrait pics in beautiful spaces
Roasting marshmallows over an open fire
Fireworks
Food trucks
Sparkler exits
And sitting on the beach 🏖️

Our secret hack for the day of your wedding….

We are always telling clients to make sure they find pockets of time to be together and away from their guests. Wedding days are busy things and go really fast because you are having such a great time. Everyone feels an expectation to get around to seeing everyone they have invited, but if you do this, have you enough time to be with the person you have just married?

Our tip is to purposefully sn**ch moments and take quality time for just the two of you. Always get your Coordinator to factor these moments into their schedule too.

Best times for this:
♥️ Literally after you have just said I Do. Have a glass of something waiting for you as you exit your aisle. Maybe whizz off somewhere inside your venue to have a cuddle and enjoy that ‘Just married’ buzz. Why is this also good? It means that your Coordinators can move your guests to where they need to go for welcome drinks.

♥️ Have some portrait pics done after all the guest photos. Revel in the time after the business end of the photos are done. Why is this also good? Your Coordinators can herd your guests into dinner and have them ready to welcome you into the space for some napkin waving.

♥️ After dinner with bellies full, speeches done and when you can be loved up because of all the fab things you have said about each other. Escape now for some Golden or Blue Hour pics. Why is this also good? Your Coordinators and catering team can clear the space, herd your guests away and get the room ready for the party 🥳

L o v e s

A few things I love about wedding planning.

1. Working with lovely people.
In my previous post I talked about how we put out what we hope to get back and being genuine and lovely. We have had the pleasure to work with THE most gorgeous couples with open hearts, minds and souls. It has been a privilege to meet and make life-long connections with them ♥️

2. Working alongside our fellow wedding industry buddies.
My God, the TALENT out there in this industry is incredible. Our couples literally have so much choice (I know that can sound daunting, but these people will take care of you and be super lovely). We have made friends for life in our work ♥️

3. Having the opportunity to flex our talents, be creative and be wholeheartedly trusted. In what other other industry would you get this?

4. The fact that every day is different. The breadth of stuff we do is endless; from client meetings, visiting new venues, networking, wedmin and meeting a whole host of friendly animals in the process (donkeys, dogs, ducks, alpacas etc etc)

5. No Sunday blues!
I love being my own boss and having a small team, I love not having a set work pattern too which means that I can juggle life (not necessarily in the high season, but for 5 months the of the year it’s possible 🤣)

When I tell people (who don’t work in the Wedding Industry) that I am a Weddjng Planner they ALWAYS ask “Tell us about the bridezillas!” and then when I say that we just don’t have them, it makes me think…well, why?

I’m convinced that it’s partly due to putting out what you want to get back.

We make sure that we always try to project our genuine personality because getting the right fit both as a client and as a professional is SO important. We might not be the right fit for everyone, just as some people won’t be our ideal client. And that’s OK.

There are so many things we adore about the couples we attract.

Design-led: we love it when you have a vision or are open to us designing based on your interests, the season or palette so that your wedding is individual and unique to you.
Fun: we love it when you don’t take yourselves too seriously and want to enjoy the process.
Open-minded: sometimes wedding planning serves a curve ball. Sometimes we have to be honest and tell you if something isn’t going to work. Being open to expertise and experience is crucial. We love it when you trust us.
All about the love and the party: we love the romance of a wedding and we LOVE throwing shapes in the dance floor. Need I say more?

Couples often ask can we make our services bespoke?

Yes! We absolutely can ☺️

We know that you are all different, and we love that ♥️ One of our biggest and most important values is that no wedding will ever feel or look the same. So, when you ask this question we absolutely make sure to craft a service which suits you and your day.

How do we do this?

We listen. We ask you to tell us about you both, what makes you tick and your values interests. This way, we can make sure that we shape our planning and craft a day which celebrates you as individuals and as a fabulous couple.

We ask you what help you think you most need, for example if it’s really important for you both to relax the few weeks before and have no stress on the wedding day then perhaps you need On the Day Coordination. Then, if you have family coming from overseas we may suggest having us there to help the day before with a rehearsal and dinner.

If you want to hire props and furniture and want us to stay on the day to help with a turnaround we may suggest having our styling help by the hour as opposed to a chunk just in the morning.

D i d Y o u K n o w . . . ?

That the best way to not feel overwhelmed with your wedding planning is to chunk it up?

Lots of you have busy jobs/kids/life which aren’t sometimes conducive to planning a wedding. Often our clients talk about having spurts of energy and having really productive periods of time where they CAN focus, but other times the last thing they feel like doing is thinking about crockery (not that crockery isn’t sexy) or whether Aunt Jean is going to be happy with her fish goujon.

THIS IS NORMAL. YOU ARE NOT FAILING.

Our advice is to use these productive times and don’t sweat the small stuff. Chunking your planning time is useful not only for your sanity, but to prioritise jobs, for example, focus on your entertainment in one chunk and your food choices in another. Multitasking and feeling like there’s too much to do is where the overwhelming feeling sets in and then you have all those weird dreams.

If you aren’t having the weird dreams yet…you will ☺️

The other way to not feel like this is to hire a wedding planner.

V e n u e S p o t l i g h t

We were so excited to have a proper chunky meeting yesterday to fully launch for next season.

We have been working at this beautiful grand Victorian home in the pretty village of Cuckfield, West Sussex over the past year to fully understand the wonderful potential that this boutique venue has for couples looking for an intimate and luxury weekend wedding.

Not only do you get a stunning Sussex backdrop, a sunken garden for ceremonies, a marquee lawn and a pool house, but you can also have a beautiful Victorian glasshouse and an orchard to explore.

This beautiful and totally flexible space is a blank canvas for you to imagine and create.

What made me decide to be a wedding planner?

The cheesy thing would be to say that it’s because I love the idea of weddings and creating a magical experience.

I mean, yes, I LOVE love but that isn’t the ONLY reason which drew me into working in the wedding industry.

A lot of you will know that my career started as a drama teacher some 25 years ago. Teaching and Directing was always something I knew I would do from being a child lining up her teddies and then a young adult getting into theatre. I loved my job; I loved working with young people, I loved being creative and got so much joy out of seeing the difference a good mentor can have on a person.

However, as time moved on and I remarried, I realised how much I enjoyed using my skills in a different way. I loved planning my own wedding and I guess for me that was the turning point. I left the security of a well-paid job and decided to take a risk to become a wedding planner, and I’m so glad I did.

I set Luna And The lane up in 2018 and at first it was hard to go from working with lots of people to suddenly being the sole decision-maker. Obviously, Covid hit at a really bad time, and there were moments when I questioned if the business would survive. Thankfully, Luna is doing brilliantly and I am so proud of where I have taken it since its humble beginnings. I have staff, a prop barn and I am mega excited to see where the business will go next.

So, the answer to the question is yes, I love love. But for me it’s more about the human connections, helping people to achieve their dreams, being a mini Yoda to couples who need help to vision their day but also to provide answers to questions they maybe didn’t even realise they had.

Nothing gives me more of a warm fuzzy feeling than knowing that in someway I and the team have helped create one of the most joyful days of our couples lives.

Now THAT might sound cheesy, but it’s true ☺️.

Lovely words from K and D after we helped them with the Coordination and Styling of their London wedding.

Note to self, time to share some more eye candy from this wedding from the wonderful

K originally reached out for help for the Design and Styling element of their big day in Peckham, wanting to embrace their love of orange and teal to create a stylish wow-factor aesthetic which also aligned with the decor and details of their venue.

Being incredibly busy and capable people, they realised early on that help on the day would be a must. Their venue being on four floors and with an alfresco dinner and courtyard dancing, meant that logistics needed to be carefully considered and a fool-proof back up plan negotiated.

We worked hard on this one and blimey, was it worth it! Choosing our On The Day Coordination Service, Prop Hire & Styling suited Annabel and Shane perfectly. D e - B u n k i n g Venue coordinators are the same as wedding planners….. Nope! This is a really important read for those of you who are starting your planning journey. We often hear, “Well, we don’t need a wedding Planner or On the Day Coordinator because we have a venue coordinator”. Wrong!! If you are lucky enough to have booked a venue with a venue coordinator you should ask them specifically what they will do and not do for you. Please don’t make the assumption that they will be liaising with you on all elements of your planning and execution on the day.
