Very pleased to be welcoming back to NWOS Christian Jenkins baritone!
Christian was with us for Carmen in 2019 and is back to take part in our "Night at the Opera"evening!
Christian started his musical education at the age of eight when he was selected to be a chorister at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle. Whilst there, he had the opportunity to sing in events such as Princess Margaret’s Funeral, The Queen Mothers Requiem and the Garter Ceremonies.
Following a family relocation, Christian continued as a chorister at Tewkesbury Abbey where he sang solos such as the Allegri Miserere (St Thomas’ Cathedral NYC, Radio 3 Broadcast, Neresheim Abbey), Handel’s Messiah and Bach Passions.
As his voice broke, he began to train his voice as a baritone and went on to complete his education at The King’s School Gloucester where he performed in many ceremonies in the Cathedral as well as performing in external concerts such as Vaughan Williams’ Five Mystical Songs.
During this time, Christian conducted the Nidus Children’s Choir. Under Christian’s leadership, the choir recorded with Bryn Terfel, Catrin Finch and Vangelis. The Choir won the title ‘Show Choir of the World’ at the Llangollen Eisteddfod 2013, and a silver medal for Great Britain at the World Choir Games in Riga 2014.
Following on from A Levels, Christian was awarded a scholarship to study at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff where he graduated in 2014 with a BMus Honours. He participated in concerts and operas such as Die Fledermaus, The Marriage of Figaro, Brahm’s Requiem, and solos in such works as Brahm’s Requiem, Coronation Mass, Creation and Messiah.
After taking some time away studying abroad, Christian achieved an MA from the University of Bristol having studied Propaganda music in East Germany and the Soviet Union.
In January 2020, Christian began singing again in the roles of Dancaire and Morales at NWOS and is excited to return for ‘A Night at the Opera’.
