EMOTIONAL FREEDOM TECHNIQUES (EFT).
Eastern medicine has known and used this method for 5,000 years but Energy Tapping in its current form was introduced over 30 years ago by Dr. Roger Callahan and called ‘Thought Field Therapy’. The technique was later modified by Gary Craig to be more user-friendly and was renamed ‘Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT)’.
During stressful, fearful, or traumatic events, the human body releases cortisol, a stress hormone. This creates a memory of this event (conscious or subconscious) and this disrupts the natural functions and energy flow in the body. This disruption can lead to chronic or acute illness, injury, physical/emotional pain, or psychological beliefs.
These beliefs can show up in a number of ways including negative relationships, financial problems and low self-worth.
During Tapping, the amygdala is reset. The amygdala is a small part of your brain, but it has a major role as it is the major processing centre for emotions. It links your emotions to many other brain abilities, especially memories, learning and senses. Resetting the amygdala creates a new energy pattern.
Studies have shown that EFT seems to exert a broad influence on the brain, decreasing not only a person's ANXIETY but also something as debilitating as chronic PAIN.
When a person experiences anxiety, their sympathetic nervous system is activated, a state familiarly known as 'fight or flight' mode. The idea behind EFT is that it activates the parasympathetic nervous system, the portion of our nervous system that restores a state of calm and relaxation.
Dr. Dawson Church is one of the world’s leading experts on energy psychology and an EFT master. His study set out to determine how an hour-long tapping session would impact the cortisol levels of 83 subjects. For the sake of comparison, he also measured the cortisol levels of people who received traditional talk therapy, as well as the cortisol levels of those who received no treatment at all.
The results showed that the average cortisol reduction of those who experienced an EFT Tapping session was 24%, and as high as 50% in some subjects. On the other hand, people who experienced traditional talk therapy or no treatment at all didn’t experience any significant cortisol reduction.
The technique is (at long last!) beginning to be featured in the MSM – see below.
