To tell the truth, Biolea Estate is one of my favorite wedding venues in Crete. It's perfect for micro-weddings and big scale events same time. In addition to the exceptional views and endless olive groves you get amazing food prepared for you by Biolea's owner and his team.

I am a big fan of historical sites. There are many in Crete. You know from school lessons that Crete was and still is a crossroad of different ages and cultures. If a couple supports my obsession for historical places we always move some part of a wedding day there.

Ellie and Hector had a first look in front of one of the oldest basilica in Chania area, known as Rotonda. The church was originally built in the 6th century during the first Byzantine period and became the seat of the Bishop of Kissamos during the second Byzantine period, where it was extended. Its stepped dome with five concentric rings is unique in Crete (and very rare in Byzantine architecture).

Meet Ellie from New Zealand, who actually made her dream come true - to get married in the other side of planet, in Crete!
We start the story of Ellie and Hector's wedding with this post that is dedicated to wedding stylists and makeup artists 🫦

I would advise to brides to collaborate with local stylists at least for one reason - they know very well how to deal with the Cretan weather conditions. It can be extremely windy, it can be also humid or the heat can be really intense. They know how to make your look perfect despite anything. It’s way better when professionals take care about your hair and makeup on your Big day.
An important note: stylist will never leave a bride room as long as a bride is happy with her look.

However a trial is not always necessary part of the preparations. You can send us your photos and references on desired makeup and hairdo, so a stylist will be prepared in advance. We made a list with really cool Cretan stylists for our couples and always share it with them 💋

Love is a light and pure energy that fills all life on earth. Love is light, scaring darkness away. Love heats everyone around. Light is a symbol of Love and we do pay attention to the lighting when it's about a wedding decor.

It was a beautiful intimate ceremony, the company of four people. The highlight of the day was movie like romantic dinner among the olive trees, overlooking the mountain of , surrounded by all the colour palette that our Mother Earth provides.

Christy and Brad fell so much in love with an island and its culture that even decided to celebrate their 5 years anniversary back here in Crete. Of course, when we hear such response our hearts smile from gratitude and appreciation for trusting us and knowing that we have successfully delivered all the wishes made and beyond.

Not to mention knowing that all this work we do here on our Instagram page serves you as an inspiration, motivation and trust in order to travel across the world to make a wedding of your dreams.

While our island has settled in the offseason mode and olive oil harvest, work counties as this is the period where we meet our new couples to be in next season and discussing, planning how, whether in person or via zoom meetings.

As you know we love sharing our couples stories of their weddings, their wishes and how we can bring them to live according to their visualisation paired up by local possibilities.

Christy and Brad, a couple from America that have never been to Crete before, came across our Instagram page and got inspired by one of our wedding editorials that we organised in the valley of Amari. 🌿 This is further proof that editorial shooting work well and help our clients to get new ideas on their wedding day and make them inspired enough to travel all way from the Far West to Crete.

Christy and Brad wished for a similar raw nature set up, where they could celebrate their love union among beautiful landscapes, trees, stars and nature sounds. That for us of course is a great pleasure to deliver as we so highly promote our deep appreciation for Cretan landscape.

To cake or not to cake 🤔🤩🍰

Wedding cake is one of the main attributes of a classic wedding. Its main original idea is an action made as a couple together, cutting a wedding cake holding one knife with four hands.

Nowadays couples do many more things together prior to the wedding. Like living together and having kids, therefore leaving wedding cake mainly as keeping up with the tradition, for the pictures and as a nice gesture of gratitude to the guests by sharing it with them.

Many couples opt for a cake free ceremony. In this case I offer my clients doing something original like planting a tree or even flowers together. Metaphorically its a beautiful idea, leaving a seed of new founded family in the earth and letting it grow its roots deep into the soil by building strong foundations. Also it is something you can come back to for a visit and good for environment.

But if it is the wedding cake you are after, then you are in big luck. Crete has absolutely amazing bakeries and true masters in their field. Cretans are well known for their sweet tooth and getting creative in this field, plus fresh local produce are the key foundations of delightful taste.

Hence proportionally population of the island is way less then tourists and the number of weddings happening every day, make sure to book your cake at least a month before your celebration.

If you have dietary preference such as gluten free and vegan in one cake together, your choice will be narrowed down to just as few as this option is relatively new to Crete. Luckily your wedding planner will have the best options for you. in specialise in it.

There is a phrase that is widely used : “Hiring a planner will save you money.”

And I think, this phrase is a little bit misinterpreted. Weddings are expensive, fact. Take a lot of time planning. Logistics are stressful and putting it all together working like a clock on the IT day is another art. And if you opt to go for a destination wedding, that is another level of hustle. So this is where you hire a wedding planner, to save your time and stress while you continue with you every day life and work and anticipating and visualising your big day. That’s what this statement means, not that it will actually save you money.

First:

The most important part is to have a clear idea of your budget for your wedding, that is the key. Checking your local prices or if it is a destination wedding you are after, book a consultation with a local wedding planner first. For a reasonable fee, upon sharing your budget, the wedding planner will be able to navigate you with your options. This gives you a great base to see if you could do it yourself from abroad or you will require wedding planners services.

Knowing your budget will keep you clear on understanding what you can get and choose from and follow that direction. It will save you a lot of time and stress also, trust me. Otherwise, if you think you figure out on the way and maybe save here and there you can get a better venue etc. It is a job of a wedding planner with many years of experience to tell you realistically what will work and won’t work.

Second:

Choose your wedding planner not for its fee but how much it’s philosophy, vision and character aligns with yours to avoid any additional stress, miscommunication and misunderstandings.

Great idea to say thank you to your guests for sharing your special day with you ❤️

I truly love creativity of my couples. Each one gets so excited and happy about their big day, of course, wanting it to make special and memorable. Also express in their own way their gratitude to the guests for their presence.

Leaving personal messages for the guests on the olive tree was one of the cutest things on one of my weddings this summer. (Note: paper was biodegradable) I really loved the idea: it’s personal but also inexpensive, it’s interacting and entertaining for the guests. A lot of pleasant emotions from something so simple yet so thoughtful. Of course, if your number of guests doesn’t exceed a certain number 😊

It’s the thought that counts:) Now grab some raki! "Geia mas!"

August in Crete and wedding planning.
However I picked up pics from Charlotte and Alex wedding in the end of July, last year to illustrate my post.
Because there is a happy news! These two loving birds have became parents recently 😍 Congrats!

Back to business: While August for most is the time for their long awaited summer holidays, for locals it is the peak of their working summer season. The island is flooded with tourists from abroad so as with Greek tourists coming from mainland and other islands. It is the month of busy roads, full restaurants, beaches, cafes, hotels etc. Summer vocation vibes at its highest.

How does this effect your wedding planning you might ask. Since majority of the businesses in Crete are family owned, with all family members working from morning till evening accommodating the needs of unbelievable amount of guests, any requests for price quotes and dates availabilities for your future wedding will be put on hold. Be patient and do not get put off by lack of replies, you will get attended when owners will have some time to breathe somewhere after mid September.

As a wedding planner with many years of experience working in the industry in Crete, and accepting new couples in August month, upon hearing their wishes and needs, I can only make suggestions with venues, photographers, caterers, decorators, hair stylists and all the included that would suit there theme and visions. But to wait for further details upon pricing and availability till later in September. Same suggestion goes for their visits for venue viewing, tasting, meetings etc when the island will come back to its normal pace.

But do not worry if your preferable month for wedding is in August, all the bookings are done well in advance and it is my job as your wedding planner to make sure it all runs smoothly as planned.

The golden hour, most perfect light.

While arranging the time schedule for the wedding day, one of our biggest suggestions to the couple will be to plan photoshoot around the golden hour, sunset light. It’s undeniably one of the most beautiful light in the day, that each photographer knows will be the best shots.

Alexandra and Mathew's wedding took place in this beautiful church of Profitis Ilias, a breathtaking space overlooking the town of Chania.

The ceremony looked like a scene from the movies. Weather was beautiful, sun lighting the church, stunning bride in a sparkly veil, walked by her father down the aisle, where her husband to be was awaiting surrounded by friends and family.

Alex and Mathew came all the way from Canada. Like in a previous love story, the bride's father has Cretan routes and the latter has a strong meaning especially if there is any connection to Crete.
Lineage, family, relatives and connections still mean a lot over here. Times might change elsewhere, but here we still witness a lot of honouring of traditions and customs.

It was a full legal wedding in church. You can get married in church, even if you are not orthodox religion. But bear in mind that this requires a paper work. Each region of Crete requires their own set of documents for church weddings. Greece is a very bureaucratic country, so if you are aiming for a legal wedding in church, please, do not get surprised of the amount of papers your wedding planner will be requesting from you.

Sophie and Chris a week ago in ❤️

It was one of those weddings small with simple concept, but feeling so grant on emotions received. There was just so much love and grace, happiness and tenderness.

As a wedding planner my team and I organise all type of weddings, big, medium, small. Grotesque and minimal and each one is special. Seeing each couple happy smiles, love and tears, is the best moment that all the weeks and days of planning lead too.

Chris and Sophia travelled from a far. When we say far, literally from another side of the world, Australia 🇦🇺

Plakia's south of Rethymno, one of the most beautiful places in Crete, but very famous for strong winds. There was a special emotional attachment to the place, connecting Sophia to her late father and the family members. So wind or not, it was the place of their wish.

Even though we aimed for the ceremony in June as winds arrive in July and August. Nevertheless there was no escape, it just blew and blew.

Luckily our beautiful couple here, was happily occupied celebrating their love with all the guests that came from far to witness their one of the happiest moments in life, that gushes of wind haven’t even been noticed.

It was one of those weddings small with simple concept, but feeling so grant on emotions received. There was just so much love and grace, happiness and tenderness.

Venue is undeniably one of the most important components of the wedding.

Even though I have been a wedding planner for the past 12 years, I choose not to get stuck to well known wedding platforms and orchestrate weddings from the comfort zone of knowing how each one would be in advance. Each couple is special, their love is special, their love story and that is my approach. Therefore I never stop looking for new original places that Crete has to offer and when I find a true gem, visualising a wedding there, I approach the owner with my idea and happily share with my newcomers right away.

The same was with this place - Biolea. When I visited it, I just knew the potential it holds. Not to mention when I tasted that divine food that Mikhalis (the owner) created with the local food produce. All the ideas of running weddings here started to run through my head: olive grove perfect for the ceremony, dining table overlooking the mountains, lounge area, bar spot, dj, music etc (how a wedding planners’ mind works:). It’s an every day job even when not on a job 😊

In an every day Biolea works as an olive factory that you can tour and a full functioning restaurant with incredibly delicious food. Personal favourite: sunset dinner, overlooking these gorgeous mountains.

For my future wedding couples, anticipating the first question, this venue can host up to 80 people.

Marina is like a fragile flower that you want to preserve… 💓She is so sensitive and self confident at the same time 🌸 I guess, me and a photographer Egor Matasov, we managed to capture the essence of this couple relationships, their feelings toward each other 🙌🏻
