We are happy to remind to all our friends and supporters that the world federation CMAS Freediving International CMAS-World Underwater Federation and the Greek Federation of Underwater Activity
has entrusted us with the world two top events for free diving. We will host the world cup-WORLD CUP DEPTH SERIES in Mytikas Aitoloakarnania -Ionian sea 2-7/9 and the 8th World Championship Free Diving Depth 2-13/10 in Kalamata Messinia.The first event is co organized by Xiromero municipality Δήμος Ξηρομέρου ,Δήμος Ακτίου-Βόνιτσας / Municipality of Aktio-Vonitsa , Regional Union of Western Greece municipalities and the second by Δήμος Καλαμάτας - Municipality of Kalamata ,Regional Union of Peloponesse municipalities, Περιφέρεια Πελοποννήσου, the free diving and underwater activities club “ΝIRITIS” and naval sports club of Kalamata “O AIOLOS”.Also our supporter is Visit Greece because through these events we praise the greek hospitality and free diving is the ultimate version of sports tourism.
We could not make any of these happen without our partner ,the Greek Rib Boats Club ΟΦΣΕ - Όμιλος Φουσκωτών Σκαφών Ελλάδας.

The excellent weather conditions in the Ionian sea,allows to schedule this years event alongside with CMAS-World Underwater Federation and ΕΟΥΔΑ Ελληνική Ομοσπονδία Υ/Β Δραστηριότητας with the support of General Secretariat of Sports and Visit Greece .
📆Dates are 2-7 of SEPTEMBER (training week 26-31 of August).

CMAS-World Underwater Federation CMAS Freediving International

CMAS' Position on Freediving

CMAS is the sole world governing body for all underwater sport disciplines, fully recognized as such by the International Olympic Committee. Indeed, CMAS is full member of ARISF—Association of IOC-Recognized International Sport Federations and of the IWGA—International World Games Association. CMAS carries on its activities and pursues its scopes under the umbrella of the Olympic Movement and in compliance with the Olympic Charter.

CMAS members are National Sport Federations, recognized by the corresponding local National Olympic Committees or equivalent public sport entities at national level. So far CMAS has membership of more than 120 national federations, covering the entire Globe.

CMAS is the only sport federation entitled by the Olympic Charter to name its international sport tournaments “World Championships” and award the corresponding World Titles, with full effect and validity worldwide within the Olympic Movement either at a national and international level.

CMAS is a signatory to WADA and hence applies the WADA-Code and enforces it vis-à-vis its athletes, teams, officials and member National Federations. Yet, CMAS’ fight against doping is not only aimed to sanction the use of prohibited substances or methods, but also expands to the safety of athletes and the preservation of their well-being by also adopting protective measures. And in fact, although not contemplated by the WADA Code-related list, CMAS has banned certain substances such as sildenafil and benzodiazepines, also adopting enforcement measures and rules, based on the experiences and processes provided for in the WADA-Code. Such actions represent a solid answer to the need of transparency, athletes’ safety and fairness in sport and aims also to ensuring a proper balance of competition between all the athletes.

CMAS is fully committed to growing the Freediving movement worldwide and has resolved to launch the best freediving tournament to be known as World Series of Freediving and to see its first event in 2024. At the same time, CMAS is adopting all the necessary means and educational tools to grow freediving from roots and up to the top levels at a global level.

Considering all the above, and following the recent developments at the AIDA international freediving event in Bahamas (we were the only ones to take immediate action) and the following event in Cyprus, which appear to be far from the CMAS standards, we have resolved to discontinue further cooperation with AIDA. We will increase the efforts of the CMAS, strengthen our commitment to promote Freediving under CMAS aegis of clean, safe sport governance, until its possible for its inclusion in the Olympic Games.

Η Ʃκανδαλόπετρα αναβιώνει στη Ρόδο και την εμβληματική Λίνδο από την Περιφέρεια Νότιου Αιγαίου, στο πλαίσιο της πράξης ΑΝΔΙΚΑΤ του Ευρωπαϊκού Προγράμματος Συνεργασίας INTERREG V-A Ελλάδα-Κύπρος 2014-2020

Σκοπός της εκδήλωσης είναι η αναβίωση μιας παράδοσης χιλιάδων χρόνων και η προώθηση της ελεύθερης κατάδυσης στα Δωδεκάνησα, όπου και ξεκίνησε η ιστορία της, από την εποχή του Μεγάλου Αλεξάνδρου.

Η Περιφέρεια Νοτίου Αιγαίου και η ομάδα του Authentic Big Blue διοργανώνουν στη Ρόδο επίδειξη σκανδαλόπετρας και αγωνιστικής ελεύθερης κατάδυσης στο πλαίσιο της πράξης «ΑΝΔΙΚΑΤ: Καταδυτικές Διαδρομές σε Θαλάσσιες Προστατευόμενες Περιοχές της Ανατολικής Μεσογείου ‐Ανάπτυξη Δικτύου Καταδυτικού Τουρισμού», της οποίας ηγείται η Περιφέρεια Νοτίου Αιγαίου.

Οι διαγωνιστικές διαδικασίες επίδειξης θα λάβουν χώρα στη Λίνδο το τριήμερο 28-30 Σεπτεμβρίου 2023 και έχουν ήδη δηλώσει συμμετοχή 20 αθλητές από την Ελλάδα αλλά και το εξωτερικό. Σήμερα Πέμπτη θα γίνουν οι δοκιμές σε αγκυροβόλιο και στο στήσιμο του αγώνα και τις δύο επόμενες μέρες, Παρασκευή 29/9 και Σάββατο 30/09, 08:00-13:00 το πρωί, θα γίνουν η επίδειξη της κατάδυσης με τον "κανονικό" τρόπο και η επίδειξη της σκανδαλόπετρας αντίστοιχα.

Η ελεύθερη κατάδυση έχει τις ρίζες της στην πανάρχαια μέθοδο κατάδυσης, γνωστής ως σκανδαλόπετρας. Η ιστορία της ξεκινά στα Δωδεκάνησα, ως ο μοναδικός τρόπος που είχαν τότε οι σφουγγαράδες να μαζεύουν σφουγγάρια και άρχισε να εξαφανίζεται μετά την δεκαετία του 60, όταν νέες μέθοδοι πήραν τη θέση της.

Η σκανδαλόπετρα είναι ένα κομμάτι μάρμαρο ή γρανίτη με στρογγυλεμένες γωνίες και υδροδυναμικό σχήμα για γρήγορη κατάδυση, το οποίο λειτουργεί παράλληλα και ως πηδάλιο για να αλλάζει κατεύθυνση και σαν φρένο για να επιταχύνει ή να επιβραδύνει τον ρυθμό κατάδυσης. Όταν έφτανε στον βυθό ο δύτης, ελευθέρωνε τα χέρια του για να μαζέψει τα σφουγγάρια και όταν τελείωνε κουνούσε τη σκανδαλόπετρα και ο βοηθός του στην βάρκα τον τραβούσε στην επιφάνεια. Το όνομα προέρχεται από τις λέξεις "σκανδάλη" και "πέτρα".

Σκοπός της Περιφέρειας Νοτίου Αιγαίου είναι να αναβιώσει μια παράδοση χιλιάδων χρόνων και μέσα από τέτοιες ενέργειες να προωθήσει την ελεύθερη κατάδυση στα Δωδεκάνησα, όπου και ξεκίνησε η ιστορία της, προβάλλοντας ταυτόχρονα και τα αποτελέσματα της πράξης ΑΝΔΙΚΑΤ στην Περιφέρεια.

* Η Πράξη ΑΝΔΙΚΑΤ (www.andikat.eu) στοχεύει στην ανάπτυξη δικτύου καταδύσεων σε θαλάσσιες περιοχές της Ελλάδας και της Κύπρου ως εργαλείο προστασίας του θαλάσσιου περιβάλλοντος, διαφύλαξη της φυσικής και πολιτιστικής κληρονομιάς και ευαισθητοποίηση του κοινού σχετικά με την προστασία του θαλάσσιου περιβάλλοντος. Μεταξύ των αναμενόμενων αποτελεσμάτων είναι η περαιτέρω ανάπτυξη του βιώσιμου τουρισμού και ιδιαίτερα του καταδυτικού τουρισμού, με τον εμπλουτισμό και τη διαφοροποίηση των παρεχόμενων τουριστικών υπηρεσιών.
Η πράξη υλοποιείται στο πλαίσιο του Προγράμματος Συνεργασίας INTERREG V-A Ελλάδα-Κύπρος 2014-2020 και συγχρηματοδοτείται από το ΕΤΠΑ και από εθνικούς πόρους της Ελλάδας και της Κύπρου.

«Skandalopetra is a recreational apnea discipline with historical roots. The name comes from the Greek words "scandali" (trigger) and "petra" (stone). It is precisely this stone which forms the basis of this discipline. The athlete dives with the help of a stone (usually a marble slab) attached to a rope.
Skandalopetra is a team event: one athlete dives and one is waiting at the surface. When the first athlete reaches the desired depth, the second starts hauling him up.

Archaeologists found that people have been earning their sustenance from free-diving since thousands of years.
