“bokeneco is from osaka, japan. he started painting from an early age. he won a prize at the Nika Exhibition which is a japan art contest when he was a kid. since he was a kid, he has been drawing mainly cats. he starts the series of CAT CITY while he lives in hong kong, where cat-shaped building can be found as the symbol in his drawing. he also held an exhibition at popcorn, a shopping mall of hong kong before.”

hagoita, a japanese traditional handcrafted wooden paddle, is used to play hanetsuki (simliar to badminton game usually played by girls in new year).

japanese people believe that playing could drive away evil spirits. however, the game is not played much anymore nowadays, the decorated paddles are collected as decoration at home in new year.

in making of a hagoita, silk and cotton textiles are used to create the kimono part whilst the silk threads are put to use on hair and special paint is applied to draw face. it is all about details and craftsmanship.

currently on showcase at Fat Cave is the with chinese poem works by 瀾平湜澄, an emerging poet and abstract artist. she is zealous in both words and visuals.

“the fragments of papers and the paper cutting with smooth outlining are the symbols usually seen in the artworks of azlynn. portions of paper collaged discretely onto canvas or paper present the remnant of feelings in her life. she believes all those grieves, woes, fear and bliss in memory are part of one’s life and are definitely worth to cherish. the abstract presentation furnishes audiences with an imagination space to recall their profound memories in life.

diverse materials (wood blocks, thread needle work, balloons, fabrics, buttons, etc) can be found on her recent work to present subtle feelings through a bolder texture on canvas or paper. for her it is essential to leave audiences with freedom of interpretation so they can call of their own references when receiving sensations from art pieces and poems.” - 瀾平湜澄
