The Chong Yuet Ming Cultural Centre (CYMCC) was established in 2016 with the aim to provide an enabling platform for arts and cultural events in the campus. CYMCC managed by CEDARS, houses an auditorium, a studio and exhibition gallery. It is located at 3/F to 5/F above the Chong Yuet Ming Amenities Centre on the Main Campus.

Always feel mysterious about the backstage? Now’s the time we enhance your knowledge in theatrical lighting, sound and stage management through a three-day Student Theatrical Training Programme! The workshops will provide you with hands-on experience in lighting and audio-visual operations in the Studio 303 of the Chong Yuet Ming Cultural Centre!

Tsang Man Tung is a renowned local scenographer. Engaged in stage art work for 20 years, Mr. Tsang Man Tung has produced more than 200 stage design works and has won numerous local and international awards, including the Award for Best Artist (Theatre) at the Hong Kong Arts Development Awards in 2008. Meanwhiles, he is a skilled performer of sacred Himalayan singing bowls with lots of public performances over the world in past years.

It is a valuable opportunity to meet Mr. Tsang for an in-depth communication and dialogue as well as enjoy the live performance of Himalayan Singing Bowl.

A Hong Kong local band, De Tesla will lead us into a journey of music and stories. Joining with a few students from Hong Kong Studies programme, they will share us the stories of HKU through their music concert – Own it! Now or Never.

The journey started from Eileen Chang’s ‘Memory of Hu Shih’, which revealed the stories of HKU under the worst of times... Through seeing how they faced uncertainty in the unrest times, we may gain strength and hope to move on.

【Jockey Club “In Search of Voice in a Cramped City” Dance Education Programme】

Commenced in July 2019, Jockey Club "In Search of Voice in a Cramped City" Dance Education Programme is a 3-year dance education project funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust. This Programme fuses contemporary dance with other art disciplines: drama🎭, music🎼, text-image📝 and visual arts🎨 as media, to create a series of innovative programme activities for youths to explore communication🗣.

The Workshop comprises three 3-hour sessions totally 9 hours⏳. Participants will experience dance/body creativity across various arts modalities, and express themselves and exchange ideas with peers💡through creative process through the workshop series.

Commenced in July 2019, Jockey Club "In Search of Voice in a Cramped City" Dance Education Programme is a 3-year dance education project💃🏻🕺🏻 funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust. This Programme fuses contemporary dance with other art disciplines: drama🎭, music🎼, text-image📝 and visual arts🎨 as media, to create a series of innovative programme activities for youths to explore communication🗣️.

The Workshop comprises three 3-hour sessions totally 9 hours⏳. Participants will experience dance/body creativity across various arts modalities, and express themselves and exchange ideas with peers💡 through creative process through the workshop series.

* Depending on the Covid-19 outbreak situation and the group gathering restriction measures, we shall provide participants with either Face-to-face or Online workshops. If the situation allows, we incline to adopt Face-to-face format. Small group learning approach will be adopted in the online workshop, 3 sessions, approx. 1-1.5 hours for each group.

/ Jing Wong // Multi-disciplinary Artist /
Jing Wong graduated as a Theatre Designer and Director in London's Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design with First Honours, he went on to create a fashion theatre brand with his sister Kay called Daydream Nation in 2007. He was first signed to People Mountain People Sea, and now signed to Frenzi Music. He has released a total of 5 albums/eps and has toured 30 cities in China and played at different music festivals such as Clockenflap, Wow and Flutter and Freespace Happening. He was also invited to play in Adelaide's OzAsia Festival in 2016, Zandari Festa and PAMS festival in Seoul in 2017. His songs featured in films by Ann Hui and Heiward Mak. He is also a keen educator who has taught young musicians regularly in events organised by the Renaissance Foundation and ‘Every Life is a Song’. His latest Theatre Concert/Concept Album “A Spy in the House of Love” released and performed in November 2018 is signaling his return to his theatre roots, where he explores how music and theatre can collide in a more artistic and creative format.

/ Yvette Wong // Lyricist, Visiting Lecturer at HKBU /
Yvette Lok Yee Wong, PhD candidate of University of Amsterdam, graduated from the Department of Humanities and Creative Writing at Hong Kong Baptist University where she received her M.Phil. Since 2014, she has been writing lyrics for artists including Kary Ng, Momo Wu, Sophy Wong, Cath Wong, per se, Alfred Hui, etc. She has published lyrics for Disney animated movies including Moana and Coco. Her proses and essays have also been sporadically published on Ming Pao, Zihua, Hong Kong Literature House, etc.

【Creative Workshop - ’The Drifters’ Online Workshops】

It's a workshop series focusing on how "Movements as a group" enhances Storytelling👥🗣️. The techniques are inspired by the Ancient Greek Chorus work and Contemporary Physical Theatre🏛️ informed by the Lecoq School of Mime.

Creative Writing exercises will also be led📝 so the participants can come up with original material. They can visualize their stories and learn how to present their stories from page👩🏻‍💻 to stage🕺🏻.

'Hong Kong, 香港. Which word would you choose to describe "Hongkongers"?

As a Hongkonger born and bred, I never explore Hong Kong thoroughly. And I came to conclusion that this is probably because I am way too familiar with the place, I took its beauty for granted and regarded it as something "basic", or "nothing so special".

I realised Hong Kong is still beautiful, with her own cultural feature. The Hong Kong bilingualism suddenly felt beautiful to me when I went out, Hong Kong is beautiful from the bottom of her heart.

All above is my own "Hong Kong Story”.'
