The truffle was discovered by the ancient Romans before the 18th century. During the five-century rule of Venice, the Motovun Forest was called the Forest of St. Marko, and in it only individuals were allowed to hunt for truffles. With the change of rulers and the arrival of Austria-Hungary, the truffle reached only one destination - the Viennese court. Nevertheless, it has remained a gastronomic delicacy to this day, only that its place at the table is still not defined: is it food or just a spice?! 🤔
