Marcella’s father Eugene Judge was the last teacher on the Islands in 1931. She was emotional to see a photo of the schoolhouse and Mrs Monaghan’s home in which he lodged!

Niall is a seanchaí; a traditional storyteller who performs all over Ireland and abroad.
Niall has performed in the European Parliament in Brussels and Kronborg Castle where Shakespeare set Hamlet.
And at the Roskilde Ship Museum in Denmark onboard the Sea Stallion. This is an exact replica of a mighty dragon ship built in Viking Dublin over 1000 years ago!
He has produced CD collections including two of young Irish performing traditional rhymes and stories.
In 2023 he enjoyed performing voiceover for the adventures of St Brendan the Navigator has also performed on abridged digital editions of many classic stories including CS Lewis’ Narnia; Roald Dahl’s Danny The Champion Of The World and Holes by Louis Sacher.
In 2020 Niall was awarded The Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon of Ireland traditional bursary to develop The Wild Atlantic Tales. This toured theatres from Kerry to Derry in 2022.
As well as traditional performances, the interpretation of gallery exhibitions are another aspect of Niall’s work. These include shows on World War One; Brian Boru, Sophie Scholl and the White Rose and many more. On many occasions he has performed and mc’ed at the Áras in Dublin for the Lighting of The Tree event in December.

“ Destination Gibbstown”
In 1937 12 families from Erris moved to Gibbstown Estate in Co Meath. The Land Commission facilitated the move, providing land and houses for the new occupants. Families from Erris, Tour Mhic Eadaigh, Donegal, Kerry and Cork were all resettled in Baile Gibb.
The surviving descendents from those families have published a brilliant book “ Destination Gibbstown” The book chronicles the life of the brave families who made the move in 1937 and brings the lives of the people right up to the present time. The book will be launched in Erris on Saturday 17th August in Áras Inis Gluaire at 5pm. The books authors and the Gibbstown community will be in attendance and all are invited. It is hoped that members of the families that remained in Erris will come and renew acquaintance with their County Meath relatives.

Dance Artist Laura Sarah Dowdall is offering water-based workshops exploring our bodies and our connection to water and the sea.
With gentle movement, we will practice standing in the water, floating, and travelling through the water. Ideal for swimmers and movers who love the water!

Music Generation’s Mayo Harp Ensemble Over the last year Áras Inis Gluaire in conjunction with Music Generation Mayo Mayo County Library and Western Harps have run a very successful harp project. We were delighted to see our students perform in the Mayo Harp Ensemble in Castlebar last week to celebrate all their hard work over the last year. This project has shown huge musical growth in all the participants and we are very fortunate to have been apart of a project that nurtures creativity in young people. A huge thank you to Music Generation Mayo for making this project possible and a huge well done to all participants who worked very hard over the last year!
