It’s funny how things work sometimes.

At the beginning of this year I was committed to leave the weddings behind. By weddings I mean the bridal bouquet preservation and focus in a more artistic career. I wanted to teach flower pressing to others, and show the world how amazing this ‘medium’ is.

The truth is that I organised several in-person workshops that sparked no interest. No one was joining. My instagram page was really slow, nothing seemed to be working, posts, reels whatever. And I didn’t know what the problem could be.

One day, talking to my partner, I realised something. And that’s why I say it’s funny how things work sometimes. He literally said: ‘Keep the weddings going. Focus only on that and become the Queen of bouquet preservation’.

Really, that clicked. I followed his advice and started working hard on my weddings, in getting more, in improving the quality of the service in every angle I could think of and turning my weaknesses into strengths:

If I’m a people pleaser, I transform it into making the brides, grooms, the couples the happiest with their artworks, because, in the end, the frame is for you, you’re the ones that have to love it enough to hang it on a special place at home.

So yeah, a lot has changed, but please, keep your wedding flowers coming 🫶🏽🫶🏽

The 'femme' collection (almost) complete 🫶🏽

I started these pieces last year, with the idea of releasing them for Women's Day, buuut I didn't 🤷🏽‍♀️

I couldn't tell you if I was embarrassed about them or could be something else.

An evening to reconnect,

trying something new, meeting new people, feeling close to nature, expanding your artistic abilities in a very relaxed environment.

I will guide you step by step to create your own mandala (or anything you like!) with real pressed flowers, even though you have no artistic skills or you've never done it before.

How do you feel after a walk in nature? And after painting something with your hands? In this workshop we combine both: flowers + painting.

When someone asked me yesterday through my IG page, if I preserved bridal bouquets, the question caught me by surprise.

I thought it was obvious, but apparently not. So, I decided to create this simple visual post. That way you know that YES, I preserve bridal bouquets.

One of the things I want to try this year is to create my own pieces.

I've been exploring my creativity and creative process to find a style I'm happy with... And I think I've found it so far.

All the pieces you see in the pictures, are made entirely with pressed flowers. Including the fine lines, that are made with the flower stems (yep! 😅).

The next step, and one of my dream is start designing, no just pictures or artworks for framing, but wine bottle labels, coffee take away cups or anything related.

What's the best thing about buying from a small business?

My answer is clear: details. Because details matter more than you think and I tell you why.

When I take bridal bouquet commissions, I make sure that:
💐 You absolute LOVE the main piece I create with your flowers. That is made according to your preferences, likes. They're not two identical pieces, the same as they're not two identical weddings, brides or bouquets. Your piece is unique for you.

💚 All the pins, ribbons and spare flowers will return to you. Alongside with 2 small pieces for you to gift and a handwritten note. Because I believe that a handwritten note is non-negotiable for a small business.

Could I personalise this more? Haha I'm open to suggestions 😅

Shadowboxes were a favourite last year but...

I had to stop offering this option for this 2024. Sometimes, as a business, we need to put into perspective what it's worth to keep and what isn't.

I had to do it with the shadowbox style.

I want to specialise in pressing, because it's what I love the most. So my mission for this 2024 is to find brides (and couples) that LOVE the pressed bridal bouquet artworks to preserve theirs this coming wedding season.

I have a lot of samples and previous works on my page. Either in canvas or double glass.

I strongly believe that

an image is worth a thousand words.

I could use a thousand words to tell you about how you won't regret the decision of preserving your bridal bouquet, how over 30 brides have preserved their bouquets with me and all think it was the best decision, that the results are beautiful, how different it is to keep your wedding memories this way....

I'm aware that not everyone knows or understands what I do. Let me explain:

I'm doing a 'marketing' course. Sometimes we have live classes on zoom and, sometimes in those classes we are divided in small groups to work (yes, all this is relevant for the story 😅).

There's quite a lot of people, and being online, we don't know each one of us. So that happened, we were divided in groups and we had to work on our business promise, guarantees, etc. One of the girls didn't know me, so when I explained what I do, she was very confused. VERY.

I explained it in different ways and shw wouldn't understand. She wouldn't understand how I would fit a whole bouquet squashed in a frame. Why people would want that and how would that cost so much.

That's when I realised that, unless you've seen it before, it's hard to explain with just words what I do. I need an image, or several.

I simply responded, please, check my Instagram page, to have an idea.

What I want to say is, I'm really greatful to have a platform where I can showcase my work. It is tiring, the competition in this moment is absolutely insane and the algorithm doesn't help. But I like to see the bright side: I just need to say 'check my Instagram for reference', and that makes my work much easier (in your case, just swipe left 🤗🤗)

Finding books to help you. My advice is not to focus only on oressing books, but others that teach you about the flowers too.

This year I also read about Floriography, how to plant and grow bulbs (even though I can't plant them), flowers stories, nature and even creativity.

If you want a list of the books I highly recommend, check the Amazon link I have on my bio. Those are my absolute 'I can't live without'. And don't worry I'll be adding more soon.

Not a Pinterest photo, but...

I love the space I've created. Believe or not I don't have a studio that I work from. Do I want one? Maybe, but not right now.

I'm happy with the little corner of my living room, my desk, my shelves and how I got to decorate it with the things I love. Because, looking at it, I realised how far I've come with my business in just a few months.

It's challenging to work in such a small space, specially with flowers that take up so much. But I came to find my own ways, and keeping it tidy as much as possible is one of them. Also, looking for stuff that can make my life easier.

Someone asked me...

'What is your biggest struggle when pressing flowers?' And you know what? The answer is probably the same as yours: colour and rotting.

But both are necessary to grow and learn. With time I got to appreciate every faded or rotten petal, in the same way as the good ones. We learn from our mistakes, mistakes that make us question what we've done wrong and what we can change the next time.

All the flowers that I know how to press are flowers that I lost at least once.

If you swipe left you'll see how 4 different colours and flowers changed when they were pressed. Btw, these were all flowers for a very special project I can't tell you about just yet.

I've someone told me a few years ago,

that I would own a pressed flower business I would've laughed. Never had the intention, never considered making this my full time job.

I could tell you my professional reasons (manage my own schedule, had arguments with my manager or my boss, etc.) but I prefer telling you my personal ones to become a flower artist.

I was always told not to make my hobbie my career. But I discovered that I'm happy when I fill my days with creativity (and flowers and cats) and I'm not stuck to a 9-5 job (although now I work 24/7).

But don't worry. You don't need to become an artist or to have a business to enjoy flower pressing.

Those are my reasons, and you don't need to agree with me. I just wanted to share what I feel when I'm surrounded by flowers. And, no matter if you feel the same or not, I'm here to help you in your flower pressing journey 🤗
