We are delighted to have play at Land & Sea Sessions on Saturday, 11th March, in The Attic!

Abe Soare; meaning Honest Sun. Adopted from Romania as a baby to Irish parents, Their original name was Ioana Soare. This directly translates to Joan Sun in English. The name Sun (Soare) reflects how Abe has learned to always keep a positive outlook on life and wants to continue spreading light and love through their music. As the artist has grown up they have realised that they identify as non-binary. A more gender-neutral name such as "Abe" makes the artist feel more comfortable and reflects the trials and tribulations it takes to live an honest life - (Just like an Honest Abe)

Abe Soare is a renowned singer-songwriter from Limerick, Ireland who has quickly made a name for themselves in the music industry. With their unique singing and songwriting style, they have a way of captivating audiences and leaving them spellbound. Drawn from the challenges of their life, their songs are personal, and evocative and take the listener on a journey through the highs and lows of life.

‘Everyone Has a Different Ennistymon’ is a new book-length poem written by award-winning eco-poet Grace Wells and published by Doolin Arts. The book was written to celebrate the town of Ennistymon, its past, present and future. Infused with the sights, colours and sounds of the streets, lanes, woods and waters of Ennistymon, Grace Wells braids together the town’s unforgettable history, people and stories, offering up an intoxicating glimpse of its unique spirit-of-life.

Grace Wells began writing the book when she was chosen as Poet Laureate of Ennistymon by Clare County Council Arts Office and Poetry Ireland, in September 2021, when Ennistymon was selected as Clare’s poetry town. Wells believes that poetry offers an ideal place to explore the stories and troubles of the past, in a way that can be comforting and supportive as we navigate the challenges of the present and future. Wells says, “For me there’s an irony or paradox in the title, because although everyone does have a very different Ennistymon, I want to believe that when we all know and keep the town’s memories, we’re linked with one another, and whoever we are, wherever we are from, we have a greater sense of community and belonging.”

‘Everyone Has a Different Ennistymon’ is the first book to be published by Doolin Arts, Hotel Doolin’s non-profit organisation for supporting artists in North Clare. For Doolin Arts the book’s design was always a very important element of the project, so they invited Corofin-based book artist Éilís Murphy of Folded Leaf, to create a book that was both beautiful to read and hold. Sensitive to environmental issues, Éilís Murphy and Doolin Arts made sure the book was printed in Ireland on recycled paper, using plant-based inks. The launch of the publication was marked by Doolin Arts working together with Hometree, to plant a small woodland of 500 native Irish trees at Hotel Doolin.

At Hedge School this weekend Doolin Arts will launch its first published book.
'Everyone Has a Different Ennistymon'is a book-length poem by award-winning eco-poet Grace Wells written to celebrate the town of Ennistymon, its past, present and future.
Grace worked closely with Eilís Murphy of Folded Leaf on the visual concept, developing something that reflects Ennistymon’s unique sense of place and pace.
Ennistymon’s iconic bridge features on the cover, wrapping around the book flaps. The text is punctuated by plants found along the banks of the Cullenagh River Walk. Grace, Dónal & Eilís were all interested in producing something that was plastic-free and more ecologically sustainable. With this in mind, the book was printed on 100% recycled Shiro Echo paper and 100% recycled Cairn Lime card using vegetable-based inks.
Fully funded by Doolin Arts which is Hotel Doolin Ireland's non-profit organisation for supporting the arts in North Clare, written by Ennistymon’s poet laureate and produced by Eilís in Corofin, community is at the heart of this book.
"Despite the huge future challenges, Ennistymon, like all places, will face, I believe it is our attention to the local that will help us restore the global. Part of looking after the local means treasuring its stories, for the stories of a place have their own powers, both intimately connecting us to a particular locality, and also, awakening within us much needed aspects of ourselves. The stories of Ennistymon are full of courage, endurance, resilience and community spirit, even in the most challenging of times, and these are qualities we will all need as we move forward into the uncertainty of our own century"- Grace Wells
"As a lover of books, I love this book. I love how it was written, what it is about and how it was made. It is such a gift to the town of Ennistymon. In the Celtic culture, every clan had their poet. The poet was a verse-maker, a story-teller, an oral historian and genealogist. They were the link between people, place, past, present and future. I wish for every town a poet like Grace and for every town a book like this and I am so grateful that Doolin Arts was in a position to be able to support this project."- Donal Minihane
‘Everyone Has a Different Ennistymon’ will be launched at the Hedge School Doolin on Sunday January 29th 2023 at 7:30pm. To mark the publication of their first book, Doolin Arts will plant 500 native tress at Hotel Doolin together with Hometree on the day of the launch. The book will be available to buy in local bookshops in Ennistymon and on Doolin Arts website. www.doolinarts.ie

DAVID KEENAN - MAGICK WORKSHOP

An open introduction to magick, a conversation where people will be encouraged to ask questions as we go, introducing people to various ‘divinatory’ methods, like sigils and tarot spreads, which they can try on their own, as well as some thought experiments and koans, and giving some explanation of how I believe they work, and what their actual efficacy and point is.

11:00 – 13:00 Saturday 28th Jan

David Keenan is the critically-acclaimed author of five novels, the cult classic This Is Memorial Device (Faber & Faber), For The Good Times (Faber & Faber), which won the Gordon Burn Prize 2019, The Towers The Fields The Transmitters (White Rabbit), Xstabeth (White Rabbit) and Monument Maker (White Rabbit), the latter a 900 page monolith released in June of 2021. He is also the co-designer, alongside the illustrator Sophy Hollington, of his own tarot deck, the Autonomic Tarot, published by Rough Trade Books.
