*Statement on behalf of the Directors of the Westcourt Hotel.*

It is with great sadness that we confirm The Westcourt Hotel will not reopen for the foreseeable future.

Given the current economic and public health situation, the owners and management of the hotel do not believe there is a commercial or safe basis for reopening at this time.

We take this opportunity to thank our many customers for their valued support over the years and the good wishes we have received in recent days. We also want to pay tribute to our amazing team who’s hard work, loyalty and dedication made the hotel such a wonderful & memorable venue in the heart of Drogheda.

We will continue in our efforts to find a viable operating model that enables us open safely when the pandemic has been brought under control.

We would like to clarify that the hotel is not being considered as a direct provision centre. The closure of the hotel does not effect Earth Nightclub.

" We arrived in Drogheda early and were refreshed with coffee at John Siddell's Inn at West St". [The Westcourt].

The outbreak of the American War of Independence heralded a new era of revolution in the early modern world. The French Revolution in 1789 paved the way for a spate of mini revolutions all over Europe.

Ireland was no different. The early 1790s saw the emergence of volunteering and the formation of organised military training, which led to the eventual birth of the Society of United Irishmen.

In Drogheda, three of the towns leading merchants, Keogh, Delahoyde and Bird were summoned for their activities on behalf of the local Catholic Committee. Part of their defence team in the courts was a young barrister, now practising on the North Leinster circuit. It was said that as a result of his success in the handling of this case he was appointed agent to the Catholic Committee. His name was Theobald Wolfe Tone and was recognised by many as the founder of Irish Republican Nationalism.

He said, 'If you have any concerns for yourself, or a family member, neighbour or a vulnerable person, please do not hesitate to make contact with us in order to obtain assistance.
We are providing assistance to the most vulnerable in ensuring that they can obtain essential goods from local shops.
