Operation Wind Farm is a creative team building activity with sustainability at its core. Teams are tasked with building a ‘wind-powered device’ and given a box of building materials with which to work as efficiently as possible.

Each component has its carbon footprint, and teams need to keep the overall footprint of their device as low as possible. Once teams earned enough carbon credits they can start thinking how to optimise to keep the footprint as low as possible!

I have worked with corporate teams, executive coaches, facilitators, and renowned educational intuitions for over 20 years. At Event Square, we cater to the full spectrum of team events from light, fun team bonding to bespoke programmes focussed on senior teams, leadership development, organisational change & transformation.

Although each event and team is unique we often end up circling around the same themes. Communication, Trust, Adaptability, Accountability, Collaboration, Emotional Intelligence, Loyalty, and Team Synergy. My role in this process is to develop experiential programmes alongside expert team facilitators to explore these themes.

To do this I need to do more than offer an academic understanding of concepts, I need to feel the themes in a real space. I practice this sensory experience each year in a visceral sense when rock climbing with my local guide of 10 years, and valued friend Didi, in Brazil.

A mistake in communication may not be merely a misunderstanding easily resolved, it can be fatal. At times you cannot see your partner. You may be unsure if it is safe to climb or if you need to have patience. What's the right decision as a lightening storm approaches and you are 200 metres up with metal gear hanging from your harness but you cannot quite hear your partners call? What do you do when your partner freezes and is stuck above you for 45 minutes? Too high above his anchor to climb down but an overwhelming fear has paralysed him and he cannot reach the next safe bolt. Do you speak or do you wait patiently as he slowly works through his own mental block? At the end of the day we are both connected by one cord, if he goes I go. There is no situation I find focusses my mind so succinctly on trust and when I emerge from a long day climbing in the sun I reflect on all that I have learned and, more importantly, felt.
