Expect a feature length mind bending audio-visual experience featuring performances from a long list of pioneering electronic musicians, creative technicians, dancers, and visual artists.

"Here at OUCH™ we are dedicated to sharing memories, objects, and other curiosities from the little-known island of Athrú. An island some claim to be found across the Irish Sea, many have asserted its position amongst the clouds, leaving others to believe it is accessible through the worship of ancient trees. After centuries of silence, we have finally developed technology capable of simulating experiences in Athrú. These experiences create memories in our test subjects which can then be converted into digital artifacts known as A-ROMs. (ATHRU-RECOVERED OUCH MEMORIES) For the first time, OUCH™ will be opening its doors and offering an exclusive presentation of this technology in operation. The event will feature Sloucho, Rhoshi, Vaticanjail, Spooklet, Rory Sweeney & Brawni who have volunteered themselves for this demonstration."

❌ Thank you to everyone who visited the opening reception of GOD, the first collaborative exhibition between Bea McMahon and Conor McFeely. ❌

The exhibition closes this Thursday, 19 December at 2pm for Christmas break and reopens Monday, 6 January, at 10am.

Exhibition Run: 13 December - 17 January
Venue: THE GALLERY | ARRAN ST EAST | D07 YY97
Opening Hours: Monday - Friday 10am - 5pm, Saturday 12pm - 5pm

_____________________________________________________________________________________

Bea and Conor share an interest in finding or happening upon materials that stimulate new ideas. These material sources may arise not only from our perceived physical reality (every species, from ants to mammals, perceives the universe in a way that eludes all others) but also from altered states of consciousness, whether through sleep or sleeplessness. A video developed for the exhibition represents a dive into insomniac ruminations.

Like Grothendieck, dreams have been a recurring meeting point for the artists. Some works in the exhibition have been extracted directly from the artists' dreams and made physical in The Gallery. For instance, one sculpture references a dream in which a table was laden with fishy snacks. Alexander Grothendieck was believed to view dreams not merely as random mental events but as a means to interface with God and get to know yourself, offering glimpses into reality beyond rationality. GOD seeks to observe the backgrounds that appear in dreams. Backgrounds that shift seamlessly from one scene to the next, setting the stage for whatever reflections come along.

The Complex, in collaboration with Mirror Lamp Press, is thrilled to share a unique literary response by our writer-in-residence, Julie Morrissy, created for the exhibition Waystation. This graduate showcase from the MA Fine Art at TU Dublin (2024) transformed the gallery into a conceptual rest-stop—a space where artistic worlds collide, pause, and prepare for new journeys.
____________________________________________________________________

Morrissy’s response is not only deeply engaging in its exploration of Waystation’s themes—archival practices, q***r fictions, and moments of temporal flux—but also striking in its presentation. The text itself is formatted in the shape of the gallery map, visually echoing the exhibition’s immersive qualities and the intricate interplay between art and space.

As writer-in-residence, Morrissy had the opportunity to work closely with The Complex team and Mirror Lamp Press editors, crafting this response as part of an initiative to foster critical voices in visual arts writing. Supported by the Arts Council of Ireland, the residency invites writers to interpret and respond to the dynamic activities of The Complex, sharing their work with wider audiences.

We invite you to explore Morrissy’s creative response on Mirror Lamp Press, where her piece brings a literary lens to Waystation's vibrant themes of transformation and collaboration.
