Wanting to keep waste to a minimum while offering delegates event merchandise can be difficult, but there are many ways to be more considerate to the world around us when organising event swag.

⭐ Minimise literature and delegate packs by using email, on-site touch screen PCs (remove comma) or digital signage.
⭐ Fill gift bags with things people won’t throw away immediately such as reusable water bottles.
⭐ Source pens, folders, gift bags etc. and any other branded material from recycled materials

One of the biggest ways your event can positively affect the surrounding environment is choosing to host it in a venue that is committed to being a sustainable one. There are so many factors to be considered here, but some of our top tips for choosing a venue that cares about the world around us are:

🟩 Choose a venue with sustainability credentials such as an ISO accreditation or carbon neutral construction certification.

🟩 Choose a venue in a city centre location that’s well serviced by public transport options including bike sharing schemes, buses, rail or tram.

🟩 Make sure there is a variety of hotels near your venue for your delegates to choose from.

🟩 Choose a venue that focuses on reducing overall energy consumption by using sustainable energy suppliers.

🟩 Choose a venue with a lot of natural light.

🟩 Give accurate timings for your event so all lights and machinery can be switched off outside of event hours.

🟩 Make sure your venue has a comprehensive waste management policy in place.

Delegate wellbeing is a vital consideration when planning a conference or event, and choosing the right location and venue can be make or break. As Gold Healthy Venue, we want to share our top tips on making your event a healthier one.

✴️ Choose a room flooded with natural light to boost delegate productivity.

✴️ Incorporate opportunities for delegates to get fresh air in to your conference agenda.

✴️ Choose healthy food options with your catering team, including “brain foods” to help revive delegates during breaks.

✴️ Encourage delegates to stretch and stand between sessions. Take the stairs, or host a standing reception.

✴️ Build time into your programme to encourage delegates to get even more active.

✴️ A change of scene can help delegates feel like they’ve taken a real break and feel more refreshed. Consider transforming a space in your venue to create a different environment.

Did you know that more than one-quarter of food produced is wasted globally each year? This has major social, environmental and economic consequences.

It’s common for delegate numbers to fluctuate in the lead-up to an event and estimating food quantities can be tricky. At The CCD, we ensure that regular communication between clients and the hospitality manager about likely numbers can allow for adjustments in catering requirements. This helps to avoid producing unnecessary food and, in turn, reducing food waste. Other initiatives, such as donating food to local schools or charities are creative ways to manage waste after an event.

Today, on Stop Food Waste Day, we want to highlight some tips and tricks you can easily implement in to your daily life to make small but significant changes in how we care for our food.
