This afternoon we took part, together with other institutes of the EUNIC IRELAND cluster, in the meeting "Toward 250 years of modern languages ​​at third level" at the Royal Irish Academy.

This is the first annual event of the celebrations, in 2026, of 250 years since the study of modern languages - ​​including Italian - was introduced at Trinity College Dublin in 1776.

The meeting was attended by representatives of European and Irish institutions including Tánaiste Micheál Martin, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Defence.

This last film, with a political-social theme, was entirely set in the city of Algiers during the Algerian War of Independence, which pitted the French army against the Algerian independentists led by the National Liberation Front between 1 November 1954 and 19 March 1962.

The film won the “Leone d’oro” at the 27th Venice International Film Festival and obtained two nominations for the Academy Awards for best director and for best original screenplay, plus another, two years earlier, for best foreign film.

The film will be screened in Italian with English subtitles and preceded by an analysis of the context and the director’s work.

With “Ma che colpa ne abbiamo noi” we get to the heart of the “comedy” trend of the Autumn cycle of “Lunedì al Cinema 2023”.

After an unsuccessful search for a new therapist, the seven remaining participants decide to try their hand at a sort of self-managed group therapy, which will be conducted in turns in the participants’ homes.

ITALIAN RECORDS NIGHT 2023 – A night of Italian music on vinyls in collaboration with Nowhere Music

Like we did last June, we will select several DJs based in Dublin (both beginners and experts) to play their Italian LPs loud and clear on a fantastic Hi-Fi system kindly provided by The Big Romance.

We will play some jazz, rock, indie, punk, soundtracks, post-rock, Italian songwriters, electronics, pop, and rare Italian psychedelia. It will be an open decks night, so feel free to bring your own records: we will find a spot for you on our playlist!

Many many thanks to the Art Historian Jessica Fahy for the extremely exhaustive and interesting lecture on Pietro Vannucci aka il on the occasion of the inauguration of the panels exhibition "Perugino, the best Master of Italy" this evening at UCD School of Languages, Cultures and Linguistics.

"Grazie" to Sìofra Pierse, Head of UCD School of Languages, Cultures and Linguistics for hosting the exhibition and to Marco Bellardi, Head of Italian at UCD for having organised the launch.

The 15 panels describe the life and the works of il Perugino, Raphael's master, on occasion of the 500 anniversary of his death in 1523.

La mostra, realizzata da Stefano Baldi per il Ministero degli Affari Esteri e della Cooperazione Internazionale, è stata già esposta in Irlanda presso le Università di Galway e Cork.

A movie highly acclaimed by a whole generation during the Nineties, Gabriele Salvatore’s Mediterraneo (1991) won the Academy Award as Best Foreign movie in 1992, reinforcing the international fame of Salvatores within the so-called “tetralogy of escape”, comprising “Marrakech Express” (1989), “Turnè” (1990) and “Puerto Escondido” (1992).

🎬It consists of three movies directed by Salvatores centred upon the theme of disillusionment and escape towards a new identity in terms of inner self, individualism, and finding a form of commitment detached from ideology and collective metanarratives, but led instead by charismatic and ironic role models.

⏰On Monday 13th Novembre 2023 at 6pm at our Institute, we will present the film “Casomai” (114’), a 2002 movie by director Alessandro D’Alatri, continues the ‘comedy’ theme within our Autum series of Lunedì al Cinema 2023.

👩‍❤️‍👨The movie tells about a universal story of through couple, Stefania and Tommaso, who are about the get married. During the ceremony however, the couple faces not only the beauty of their love, but also the darkest challenges of getting married.

Amongst the cast, two actors who were very popular during those years: Stefania Rocca and Fabio Volo.

In 2002 the movie was nominated for 4 Nastro d’Argento awards, whereas in 2003 it was nominated in 5 categories for the David di Donatello.

The movie will be screened in Italian with English subtitles and with an introduction about the context of the movie and its director’s work.

Founded by the Greeks around 600 B. C., its name derives from Poseidon (the god of the sea), to whom it was dedicated. The temples and ruins dating back to the 5th century B.C., the golden age of classical Greek art, are considered to be the finest examples of their kind. We will admire the famous tomb of the diver, a unique example of Greek painting housed in the nearby museum.

🫧RIME INSAPONATE - SOAPY RHYMES – A magical show of soap bubbles and shimmering lights for families and children🫧

🫧Rime insaponate – Soapy Rhymes is centred upon the most ineffable, evocative, delicate, surreal and playful object: the soap bubble. This ancient game becomes a playscript which mixes rhyming words with an original technique to make bubbles and a little bit of magic.

🪄A genuine show, created to dream. The Bubble Poet will blow delicate rhymes to stir an archaic sense of wonder in the spectators thanks to soap bubbles.
As if animated by the lines themselves, bubbles of all kinds will generate a surreal dance, which will transport the audience into a magical world of shimmering lights and reflections.

✨A luminous and illuminating experience: families and children can enjoy it, but also utopian realists and practical dreamers of all ages.
