13 Years Married today!

What started out as an excuse to take 5 weeks off work turned into one of the best days of my life. Look how fresh faced we are! We got married in Glendalough, one of my absolute favourite places in the world. This was shortly after the ceremony and I had already ripped my dress and Brian's aunt had to sew me back together!

We had such a fun day, it was very chilled and pared back. Brian is always joking that he is glad we got married then and not now, it would be a very different wedding now! But we did what suited us, we didn't have bridesmaids or best men, we had our mothers act as Witnesses, we didn't do speeches (which we probably should have done, but at the time it wasn't our thing). We had nice food, good music, we did a jive for our first dance, did it a second time wearing Wills & Kate masks (our wedding twins) and partied the night away with friends and family.

Here's to another 13 and more!

One of my favourite fun elements to add to a wedding ceremony, the Mead Ritual.

I love this ritual because its great for getting people involved (as you can see from this pic) and there is a bit of tradition and history behind it.

It can be done with different drinks if Mead isn't your thing, right now I am writing a ceremony where the couple have chosen tequila instead.

This was T&J'S first act as a married couple, sharing a drink together to toast their future with their loved ones. A really lovely way to conclude a ceremony, and lots fun, what more could you want!

This gorgeous pair said 'i do' yesterday in a fun ceremony, full of laughter, with lots of interaction with their guests which is my absolute favourite thing. Get those guests involved people, it's the best way to make your ceremony unique❤️

Their ceremony music was performed beautifully by , we had everything from the Cranberries, the Rolling Stones and Cyndi Lauper!

Arrggh how is it April already, this year is absolutely flying in and my wedding season kicks off with a bang this weekend. You would think with the few months off from actually performing ceremonies I would have been better are sharing photos from last years ceremonies....Alas, no!

This gorgeous couple were great fun to work with, and on the day of their wedding their guests all burst into song along with the brides cousin who performed a couple of songs with the musicians . It was a beautiful moment.

They also had their Mam's sign as witnesses, which is something I am seeing more and more of, last year and this year again. Me and my husband had our mam's sign our Marriage Reg Form when we got married 13 years ago, its nice to know we were on trend even then 😅😅

I wish I could remember what was making me laugh so much in this moment! In fairness, Gil & Doug's ceremony had so many moments like this. I had lots of fun writing their ceremony and they really let me have free reign, they trusted me completely which is such a compliment as a Celebrant.

As huge LOTR fans I had great fun finding ways to add in little snippets from the books (there are so many!) without going completely over the top. I loved seeing the smiles on their faces when they recognised a phrase, a sentence, a reference from the books.

We also had an oathing stone ritual, using Devon Rocks painted by Gil's dad, and Doug's dad did a reading, adding in bits of his own advice for good measure.

Lots of laughs, some happy tears and so much love for this gorgeous pair ❤

Warming the rings....💍

This simple yet beautiful tradition is the perfect way to bring your guests into the ceremony.

It is believed that metal takes on the vibrations of the world around it. By holding the rings and making a wish in their heart fort he couple, the guests can fill the rings with all their good vibrations and love. When the couple exchange rings they are then given with the love of their family and friends.

Best done with a small wedding, but it can be incorporated into a bigger one too. Just make sure to have someone on ring duty, making sure the rings make their way back up to the couple in time for them to exchange them.

I love getting photos from couples, it's so much fun looking back and reliving the ceremony. I was recently sent some photos from a gorgeous ceremony in Clonabreany House last year. Look at that backdrop❤️ the ceremony room in Clonabreany is very special!

This was a really fun ceremony, we had music from their friends, readings, a handfasting and the groomsmen handed out full sized (!) Double Deckers, yum yum 😋

I'm back in Clonabreany in a few weeks time and cannot wait to get back.

To sit or stand during your ceremony?

When I started out as a Celebrant I found that Irish couples would usually opt to sit, and couples from overseas would usually opt to stand. But now I do find more and more Irish couples wanting to stand during the ceremony. A good thing with celebrant led ceremonies is you can tailor how long it is, unlike say a church ceremony which can be quite long.

I would always recommend thinking about your shoes, the ground (outside or inside) and the dress. Will you be comfortable, will you feel like you are on show, does the space allow for you to sit or stand comfortably, do you want your wedding party to stand with you ?

This photo was taken when I had just started out as a celebrant and it makes me laugh as I had forgotten to tell the guests to sit when the bride came in. The couple were standing, and I got so caught up in the moment I just started the ceremony, and all the guests stayed standing. I noticed about a quarter way through and casually asked everyone to sit, I don't think anyone noticed but it was a lesson learned and it hasn't happened since.

Standing can also help make the space feel more inclusive as your guests will be able to see you better and you them during the ceremony. It can also be easier to stay standing if there is a lot of movement during the ceremony, it means we aren't moving chairs, or adjusting dresses, plus if you have a fabulous dress, you want everyone to see it!

With Mother's Day fast approaching (March 10th for anyone who has forgotten!) its time to give a shout out to the M**s!

I love it when couples get their M**s involved in the ceremony and one of the easiest ways is getting them to take part in the unity candle ritual by lighting the two outer candles. These candles usually represent the couple as individuals and it is a lovely touch for the mothers to light the candle that represents their child.

I think this picture says it all really, the three of us in fits of laughter!

Getting married is serious business, we all know that. You are entering into a legal contract (romantic eh!) and it should not be entered into without careful consideration.

But the wedding ceremony is an opportunity to celebrate and have fun!

I love it when I see photos like this from ceremonies, a moment of pure joy. My couple are relaxed, fully in the moment and having fun. It is a memory they will always treasure. As a Celebrant that is so important to me, that is what I aim to bring to every ceremony I do.

This gorgeous pair came to Ireland from America and had an intimate ceremony with some of their closest friends and family in Boyne Hill House. Moments before the ceremony the bride realised she had completely forgotten to confirm her order with a florist, so had no bouquet. She was completely cool about it and the staff at Boyne Hill managed to get a local florist to put together a beautiful bouquet at extremely short notice! We all laughed about it and that set the tone for the rest of the ceremony!

One of the big benefits of having a Celebrant led wedding ceremony is that I get to know my couples, and on the day you see a familiar face waiting for you. So many of my couples tell me they don't like being the centre of attention, or they feel nervous about having all eyes on them. Having someone you have built a connection with officiating your ceremony makes all the difference.

When I got married, I had a HSE registrar officiate my wedding. It was a very simple, straightforward ceremony. But I had the absolute fortune of knowing the woman who married us. She knew me as a child, and I didn't realise it until I thought about it afterwards, but the fact that I knew her did calm my nerves on the day.

I want to get to know you, to hear your stories, to find out what makes you tick as a couple. Having that connection with your celebrant can take your ceremony from being good, to being absolutely fantastic!!

K&S had a gorgeous ceremony in Wilton Castle, surrounded by family and friends, and I cannot wait to see them again later this year when I officiate at S's sisters wedding.

Will I stand at the side of a lake in the wind and rain, getting drenched to the skin, to make sure you have a ceremony you will never forget! Yes, yes I will!

Rain on your wedding day is (apparently) good luck! Sometimes I think that is just stuff Irish people tell themselves because there is a good chance it'll rain on your wedding day 😅

But even on the wettest of days plenty of smiles are guaranteed!
