The of the future show off in Tuam a few days before the real deal play at St Jarlaths College. If you plan on attending I'd suggest you might drive as the train doesn't look like a wise option. Tuam stadium looks like it must have when Stockwell & Purcell were ripping defences apart in the 50s and 60s

Years ago on an online photography course it was suggested to me to leave the camera settings at, or as close to, Iris open to 18 - shutter @ 125 & ISO @ 100. I figured these people had never lived in Ireland, as our ever changing weather means constant adjustments to the settings, as well as refocusing and reframing, is the order of the day. That's not the case down under though. These are the skies that those instructors had thrived under. And why wouldn't they. P.S. The marsupial/rodent is a quokka and they only inhabit the island of Rottnest, which is just a 20km ferry trip from Perth.

A lovely cycle found to Freo where I got the tour of the famous prison. John Boyle O'Reilly was the first man to escape from here in 1869 on board the Gazelle. He promises to spring some of his fellow irish political prisoners and in 1876 he did just that with the help of the whaling ship, the Catalpa. 6 men including John Devoy escaped, this bringing the eventual number of escapees to 7, and all Irish.

2 of Istanbul's most famous landmarks are only 150 metres apart. The Hagia Sophia and the Basilica Cistern were both constructed during the 6th century reign of Byzantium Emperor Justinian I. The Hagia began as a Greek Orrhodox church 'til the fall of Constantinople to the Ottoman Turks in 1453. The Cistern is the largest of hundrerds that lie beneath the city, as it has no natural fresh water access. The sharp eyed observer will recognise it from movie action scenes with Sean Connery as 007 in From Russia with Love and Tom Hanks in Dan Brown's Inferno.. ........Tom Hanks has got nothing on me! 😉 #007

Beautiful day for Corrán Tuathail climb all the way up 'O'Shea's Gully, behind our own mountain goat from Marian Park, but the fog set in just before we reached the peak. The descent down a wet Devil's ladder takes a certain kind of loonitic.

Béal na Bláth. The ultimate ambush site. It's a lovely shrine to visit in the last few days of the 100 year anniversary. Poor oul Mick Collins never stood a chance. Taken out by his own in his own county. Isn't there something so very Cork about that?

The village of Cleggan in Western Connemara with the Inis Bofin ferry about to dock. Translates as 'headland' or 'forehead'. Croagh Patrick can be seen in the distance of pic 3. On a clear day the outline of Cnoc Bréanainn can be made out too.

On a tour in Connemara yesterday we visited the gorgeous tidal island of Omey, in the Western side near Claddaghduff. Access is only at low tide via vehicle or foot. Wonderful archaeological sites from 6th century churches to ancient burial grounds. Shoes and socks were removed for the return hike as the tide filled fast.

I was warned with the PSNI unless I took the drone down here about 10 days ago. I explained that as long as I took off from outside National Trust property than I was outside their jurisdiction. As they, or the National Trust, don't own the air!! She wasn't at all happy and was going a bit Arlene Foster so I just landed the feckin thing.

If you find yourself looking for something to do while in Connemara than a visit to Tom Nee and is time well spent. Tom gives a great insight into the life of a sheep farmer in Ireland of 2022, while his border collies put on some show. All overlooking Ireland's only fjiord, the majestically beautiful Killary Harbour.

TFI Local Link services in West Kerry
It's a pleasure to produce a few promotional videos for TFI Local Link Kerry which is such a wonderful community service. Mar a duirt Dara, "why not catch the bus" 🚍
If you'd ask me many years ago while I was a cheeky little scut serving a six year sentence at Di**le CBS, what I was aiming for as a career, than becoming a wedding videographer was certainly not top of the list. Indeed if the same question was thrown at me five years ago then the answer was still not near the summit.
However lo and behold but here I am creating a website, and my own company, looking to become the ultimate wedding video man. I use that phrase as the word 'videographer' was one I first heard bandied about at the Kerry ETB training centre by Mr Brian Nolan back in 2012. Until that point the term video man was the, to our ears, the correct one assigned to the same fella in every parish who recorded the local GAA matches, Easter & Christmas parades and the agricultural show.
And if 'videographer' was an exotic word rarely if ever used at home in the Di**le peninsula than 'cinematography' was one consigned to the credits of the Hollywood movies. These were rented from the Phoenix video shop operated by the great Michael 'Francie' O'Sullivan and his family. Dozens of hours each year were lost while, as teenagers, we scoured the shelves of the Phoenix searching for that next great movie that would transport us out of West Kerry and into foreign, or alien environs, for those precious couple of hours. The imaginations of three generations of Di**le children were formed and enhanced by the wonder found on the shelves at Michael Francies'.
Of course we had no 'hinternet' at that stage and the majority of homes were still surviving on two national tv channels. So it's not that difficult to figure out how vital it was to have the Phoenix and to obey the two cardinal rules of Michael Francie:
1, Always return the one night onlys on time!
2, Always rewind the feckin tape
That still hasn't answered the question as to how I've ended up shooting weddings now, has it? So I've been working in television since I finished that course in Tralee in the autumn of 2012. I've learned a lot and met some very interesting people along the way and I've been lucky to have worked with some great folk at Setanta Sports TV. Having filmed a few weddings on my time off in the last few years in Di**le (the Di**le Skellig Hotel & Ballintaggart House), Killarney (The Brehon Hotel), Limerick (The Woodlands, Adare) and Cork. I've now decided to set up my own independent company and to create some mini documentaries, that will also tell the tales of the union of two people.
So I've extended my kit with a few new lenses and, most importantly, the purchase of a drone, as what wedding these days is complete without a few s**t hot aerial shots?? As I'm based in Dublin I can offer a national scope for filming the big days and I've found working on weddings to be very enjoyable experiences. The jovial atmosphere and generous nature of both the bridal and groom parties makes it very rewarding to film. I look forward to completing many more in the future and meeting some wonderful people along the way.
