Carbury RIC/Garda Station burned Easter 1920.

Its 104 years (3rd April 1920) since the then RIC station in Carbury village was burned as part of the IRA's war of independence campaign.

In County Kildare, men gathered at Easter for a county wide operation , at night and into the early hours of the morning. Several evacuated R.I.C. barracks were burned, including a barrack and the adjoining courthouse, at Lumville, near the Curragh Camp. Donadea, Ballinadrimna, (Moyvalley), Clane, Ballitore and Kilteel barracks were reduced to ruins. The attack on Carbury
barracks was unsuccessful. Kildare I.R.A. also set fire to the barracks at Maynooth, Sallins, Kildoon, Ballymore-Eustace and Kill. Six courthouses, including Donadea, were burned.

The Carbury barracks was then left vacant until a subsequent operation by Kildare IRA on May 28th destroyed the barracks. I understand the Barracks was subsequently repaired upon the founding of the new state and was manned for many years until the new Garda station was built in Derrinturn. The old Barracks is now in private ownership and is being lovingly restored .
