Valentine’s & Flowers: The Real Story ❤️🌸
Every year, there’s talk about the price of flowers on Valentine’s—but here’s why: It’s not florists raising prices; it’s simple economics. There are only so many flowers available, and when global demand spikes, so do wholesale costs. Florists pay more to get the flowers you love, along with increased staffing and long hours to craft each bouquet with care. Unlike supermarkets, local florists create something fresh, unique, and personal just for you.
Supermarkets sell flowers cheaply because they buy in bulk, often sacrificing quality and freshness for lower costs. Their bouquets are mass-produced and flowers are treated as a loss leader to draw customers in. Unlike florists, who source premium blooms and create unique arrangements with care, supermarkets focus on volume. While convenient, their flowers may not last as long or carry the same personal touch.
It’s also disheartening to see businesses use phrases like "Forget flowers this Valentine’s" as a sales tactic. There’s plenty of room for everyone! But for florists, this day is a big deal—just like Christmas for retailers. Supporting your local florist means backing real people, real passion, and a small business that pours love into every stem.
However, you celebrate or not —whether with a partner, friends, family, or even some well-deserved self-love—spread kindness, share joy, and make someone smile. Happy Valentine’s Day (eve) Karen ❤️🌿
