Lynchs Bakery

Established in 1869, (yes, they've been baking for 152 years!) Lynchs Arán Na HÉireann bakery & cafe on South Square, Macroom has been run by the Lynch family for five generations. The lucky winners of this year's hampers will get to taste, first hand, tomorrow their three ingredient sourdough bread - a recipe as old as time, but perfected by the Lynch's using ingredients from no further than Baile Mhic Íre. Their range, of course, extends further into all sorts of yeast & whole meal breads & confectionary to die for (think cake shops of your childhood dreams), all baked freshly six days a week. Michael Twomey Butchers is celebrating 25 years in business this month & has expanded over the years from the shop in Macroom to one in Bandon & one in Bantry. They have become famous for their locally reared Wagyu beef & even won silver & bronze at the World Steak Challenge in 2020 for it. In 2009, Johnny Lynch imported 31 buffalo from Italy (Ireland's first herd of milking water buffalo) & started making Irish mozzarella, from Italian water buffalo milk, fed on Irish grass. Macroom Buffalo Mozzarella now has a over 500 buffalo (including Betsy the 'pet' buffalo) over three farms and makes a delicious range of five buffalo milk cheeses: original mozzarella balls, bocconcini, ricotta, Greek style cheese & Buffaloumi. Gloun Cross Dairy is a dairy farm like no other. Based near Dunmanway, Co. The Lost Valley Dairy

It's finally festival week and ahead of our real life food festival next Sunday, we are delighted to also kick start A Virtual Food Tour of the Lee Valley with one of the newest producers in town: The Lost Valley Dairy. Mike & Darcie run a very small family farm with their little son Ned, outside Inchigeelagh, Co. Cork. With a focus on sustainability and organic farming practices, they milk just four cows - Gertrude, Tilda, Kate & Daisy - to produce their small but perfectly formed and incredibly tasty (including some deliciously stinky) range of cheeses. Such a lovely evening for #CultureNight at the beautiful Chapel Hill School of Art There were tours of the former Mercy Sisters convent, Medieval Chess on the lawn (we're finally allowed to walk on the grass), painting, drawing & craft demos, a sneak preview of A Virtual Tour of the Lee Valley, delicious pizza from Knockout Pizza coffee from John Bean and Gone Coffee the wonderful sounds of Fresh Air Collective and lots of lovely guests. We're thrilled to be involved in Culture Night Cork County this year along with our neighbours Chapel Hill School of Art. Come join us on Friday 17th September 17.30 - 20.00 for a delightful evening where food, art & video come together in the beautiful setting of Chapel Hill School of Art at the former Mercy Sisters convent on Chapel Hill, Macroom. Under the colourful shadows of the stained-glass windows, guests can feast on some local culinary delights while enjoying a preview of this years Virtual Food Tour of the Lee Valley, a short video that showcases the outstanding food, producers, creators & venues of the area. The newly opened Chapel Hill School of Art will also host a variety of demonstrations, fun & games representative of some of the creative opportunities available through their upcoming programme of events – from painting & drawing classes to crafting, printing & video courses. All welcome however numbers will be limited due to social distancing requirements. Outdoor Gig Cancelled

Unfortunately, due to the bad weather, we have to cancel the outdoor gig with Saturday Night Session with Hot Guitars tonight. On the bright side (and there is always a bright side ) JC Murphy's TP Cotter's and Castle Hotel Macroom have amazing live bands playing tonight!!! And its all indoors, so you can be snug as a bug and still enjoy a great night with Ceol agus Craic in our lovely local pubs.
