💕'LOVE IS JUST A WORD UNTIL SOMEONE COMES ALONG AND GIVES IT MEANING'💕

I'll never forget the journey home to my parents house that Christmas......😢

I had broken up with my boyfriend and best friend and I had never felt so overwhelmed with sadness in my entire life. I could see my face, a blurry reflection through my tears as I tried to focus on the rivulets of rain running down the glass as fast as the tears dripped off my chin. 😢

I tried to hide my tears from the other passengers on the train but it was impossible. A guy even came up to me to ask me if i was ok, did I need help. He must have thought I had been attacked or hurt. It only occurred to me afterwards how kind a gesture that really was. I assured him I was fine. He was right though - I was hurting deeply.😢

My poor Dad didn't know what to say he met me. He just enveloped me in a great big hug and told me it would be ok. And he was right. I made myself a lot of promises as I worked through that hurt. I was never going to trust anyone again. I would never fall in love again. I would never leave myself open to the possibility of feeling like this again. 😢

But guess what........?

Within a few months, I had met someone who set my soul on fire like nobody had before. By the end of that summer we moved in together because I knew this was something very special. The connection, the trust, the mutual respect, the feeling of fearlessness because I knew I had this person by my side. 💕

I wasn’t expecting this to happen but it did. The biggest surprise for me was that I had fallen for another woman. Having been brought up in the conservative Ireland of the 70’s and 80’s made this a bit scary and I knew from the outset that I might face bigotry and hatred and that people I knew and loved might not understand. I also knew that I would probably never have kids or get married as same s*x marriage was not legal as it is today. Bear in mind that this was 1998, a mere 4 years after homos*xuality had been decriminalised in Ireland.💕

I had never been more certain of anything. 🥰

We have been together ever since, had a civil partnership in Belfast and were planning to have a big family celebration last year for our 'upgrade' to full marriage but of course has been postponed due to Covid. There’s so much more to my story but maybe I will tell that at a later date…..💕

What has this got to do with me being a good celebrant?🤔

Well, because of my own story.....

I believe in love. 💕
I believe in choice.💕
I believe in trust.💕
I believe in authenticity.💕
I believe in helping couples make the choices that allow them to celebrate their love story in the way that they want and not how others think they should.💕

I firmly believe that we are the sum of our experiences. I know that everyone has their own love story, and each one is UNIQUE. That is why your wedding ceremony should be unique. I have heard so many different love stories and every single one of them has amazed me in some way and I have loved telling them as part of the celebration.💕

Your love story is part of your journey. From before you met, to how you met, to your first kiss, your first argument, your breakup, your getting back together, your ease with each other, the little things that drive you mad, the cup of coffee every morning, driving you 2 hours to lectures to complete your Masters and then driving you home again because it's important to you. Your love story is a huge part of the reason you're getting married and having a celebration. 💕
