Fernwood Flowers

Fernwood Flowers Inspired by the seasons and boasting the best of Irish-grown flowers, Fernwood offers bespoke flowers for all occasions.

Brigid Riley is the creative force behind FERNWOOD. Recently returned to Ireland after a number of years working in the US and UK, her style is uniquely expressive, romantic and natural. Inspired by the movement and texture often found in natural landscapes, Brigid creates evocative compositions of flowers, foliage, fruits and branches in her studio in rural Co. Meath, often gathering materials fr

om the surrounding environment. Her work has been featured in a variety of settings from high profile corporate and political events to more intimate social occasions such as weddings, birthdays and private parties in the US and beyond.

Once upon a time, on a warm summer’s day, we travelled to a beautiful little island in Fermanagh, where we helped Andrena and Jacob begin the first day of their happily ever after. 🌿🏰

I LOVED the brief for this one, soft and whimsical with lots of texture and movement. Can we have a moment for Andrena’s dress?!!! Talk about a showstopper all on its own… so as not to compete, we made her bouquet simple and neutral but still full of texture and interest. The rest of the flowers were designed in a soft, cottage garden style in keeping with the natural surroundings. planned and styled this one to perfection, I love working with Aoife because I know every tiny detail will be perfect!
🌿
Ireland is full of charming hidden jewels like this one-imagine, your own private island for the day! It was our first time there but already looking forward to our next wedding there later this year!

A little snapshot of Taylor & Kevin’s beautiful day on Friday. I’ll have to come back to this and do a proper reel once we get through this busy bank hol weekend as this one was really special! 😍

Sadly the weather didn’t play ball for the garden ceremony Taylor & Kevin had dreamed of but luckily the Orangery at Tankardstown makes a fabulous indoor back up plan. We flipped the room afterwards for their glamorous evening reception.

Every detail was perfectly planned and styled by the team

Congratulations guys, I hope you have enjoyed the whole Irish experience this week! Hopefully our warm welcome made up for our unpredictable weather! 🌦️🌈

🌿 Wow, what a week! I’ve hardly touched the ground yet after an incredible few days with the Irish conference last week. Holly Chapple has long been an inspiration to me in my floral design journey. She has blazed the trail for that garden-gathered style that so many of us have gravitated to. She has also created a community of wonderful, collaborative floral designers all over the world. 🌿

🌿It was so special to work alongside such incredible international talent, all of which was documented by the loveliest photog . I CAN’T WAIT to see your photos Beth! Credit to Beth for the first photo in this post. 🌿

🌿 As if making new friends from all over the world wasn’t enough, we also got to play with masses and masses of flowers from , what a treat! 🌿

🌿Together we flowered Slane Castle to within an inch of it’s life before sitting down amongst the blooms for a gorgeous gala dinner. It was absolutely magical and the perfect kick off for wedding season- I’m completely energised and inspired for the year ahead! 🌿

I arrived last night to begin an immersive week with . I’m here with 20 other floral designers from all over the world for a few days of learning and exploring. It’s still early enough in the wedding season that hopefully this will feel like play and not like work! We’re finishing the conference with a gala dinner at Slane Castle, exciting to be a guest here for a change instead of a wedding supplier!

Holly Chapple has long been an inspiration to me so I’m excited to get stuck in today and learn from one of the greatest in our industry.

I’ll check in throughout the week on stories to give you all a behind the scenes peek at what we are up to!

🌿Let's talk about unusual wedding venues.🌿

🌿I love a good country house wedding, really I do! But.... I also get REALLY excited when I get an enquiry for a more unusual venue. Like this one!

🌿Kings Inns has to be one of the greatest venues in Dublin for a wedding. Established in 1541, it is Ireland’s Oldest School of Law as well as having over 200 years of experience in hosting and welcoming guests. How cool is that? (And I promise they haven't paid me to say that!) It's located in the city centre but it's also convenient for your suppliers to load in and out of (pleaaaaase consider this aspect when booking your wedding venue, there are city centre venues I won't even consider because loading in and out is too awkward)

🌿Colleen and Ian had the coolest wedding style, I love that this wedding was 5 years ago already and it still looks so current. The moody photos captured by really highlights the drama of the church and the venue 💚

"Do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life"🌿

🌿As a child I always knew I wanted to work in something creative. At the time, I had no idea that it would be working with flowers! After secondary school in Ireland, I trained in Fashion Design in New York city and from there began working in theatre in the US, designing both costumes and sets for regional theatres around the Washington DC area. One thing led to another and I applied for a job with an event design company who also happened to be a florist! That was over 20 years ago and so the rest is obviously history.

🌿I learned so much on that job and in the years since about the processes and mechanics involved in floral design but it was only when we moved back to Ireland in 2015 that I really began to narrow in on what has now become my signature style.

🌿For my birthday that year, a close friend gave me this glorious book by Vic Brotherson and it changed everything. I was immediately drawn to this abundant, nostalgic style, unlike the traditional, formal style of floristry I had experienced to that point. We had a small bit of land with our new house in Ireland so I immediately set to planting flowerbeds in order to get my hands on some of those delicate, ethereal blooms I first saw in Vic's book.

🌿Lots of hard graft, 8 years and a pandemic later, Fernwood Flowers is now a thriving business and we have flowered hundreds of weddings all across Ireland. I am truly grateful to that friend for setting me on my own flowery path. Looking at you 😉

🌿If this natural romantic style also speaks to you, get in touch today to check our availability for your wedding date!

Hello my lovelies! Greetings to our new followers, it’s so lovely to meet you! Congratulations on your engagement and welcome to the wonderful world of wedding planning, it’s a super exciting time for you but it can also be completely overwhelming. I remember- I’ve been there!

🌿🌿🌿
By now you’ve probably downloaded a wedding planning checklist and you’re wondering where to start? Well, I suggest one job at a time. Try not to get overwhelmed by the big picture, just start with the things that are most important to you. I hope the reason you are here is that your flowers are high on that list!

🌿🌿Who are we and what do we do?🌿🌿

Fernwood Flowers is a boutique wedding florist, located in Co Meath (though we are happy to travel) and owned by myself, Brigid Riley.

🌿Along with my team of designers, we create timeless, romantic wedding flowers in a seasonal garden- gathered style. During the irish growing season, we grow some of our own flowers, especially the more delicate and scented varieties that don’t travel well. We mix these along with the highest quality blooms that we source from the Dutch flower markets.

🌿In addition to providing your flowers, we also have a large inventory of vases, vessels, candleholders and we include these styling elements as part of your table design.

🌿Flowers really add so much to your wedding day, they can transform the plainest space into something magical and we always design our weddings so the ceremony flowers can be restyled into reception flowers, often in clever ways so your guests will never guess they are the same flowers! We are on hand throughout the day so you never have to worry about who is moving the flowers.

🌿If you would like to learn more about us, check out our real weddings on our website, link in bio. We’d love to hear from you!

I can’t resist sharing a few more from this one. Those toffee roses almost stole the show, isn’t nature incredible? A perfect brown rose! Those forest Green bridesmaids dresses have been so popular the last couple of years and it’s a trend I am SO here for, they suit our Irish complexions beautifully!
