West Cork Arts Centre in partnership with Cork County Council is delighted to announce that the Arts Council of Ireland has awarded West Cork Arts Centre its first dance residency at Uillinn with dance artist Tara Brandel. This will be a celebration of a dance career exploring Tara’s choreography in Ireland, London, Berlin and San Francisco, and how those diverse dance communities have influenced
her aesthetic and how this makes her the dance artist she is today, and where that may possibly lead. Tara’s residency incorporates a community-based dance programme (including an Aerial Dance Workshop, Dance for and Active Mind, Contemporary Dance Classes and West Cork Inclusive Dance, (WCID); a series of performances; professional development and opportunities for other dancers; collaborative research labs with guest dancers; and studio time for her own reflection and professional development. Tara trained at the Laban Centre, London and with Steve Paxton, Nigel Charnick and Lloyd Newsom. She studied Integrated Dance with Axis Dance Company and Alito Alessi. She was a Co-Director of 848 Community Space, San Francisco from 2002-2004 and is currently Director of Croi Glan Dance company, based in Ballydehob.
