I'm very sad to report that Harald Skogheim, the leader of the Bergen Vikings Haakon, passed away yesterday. He led their group when they were with us at Slane earlier this year and played a key role on our longships on the River Boyne.

A second look reveals a lot. Here is one of last nights images and I hadn't noticed at first just how many stars were visible in it through the Aurora lights. Top left Corona Borealis, below it castor & Pollux, the Square of Hercules, Cassiopeia in the bottom leftn then move across to the upper half of Orion bottom right-his belt clearly seen in the corner. Above that is the planet Jupiter the brightest spec in the shot, then Ta**us with it's brightest start Aldebaran shining in the top right corner.

The weekend is over and the field below Slane castle lies bare again. We want to thank all the reenactors who came from over 10 different countries to be at this year's Boyne Valley Viking Experience . We want to give also a special thanks to all our visitors who embraced the atmosphere and enjoyed a great weekend with us 🤗⚔️⚔️⚔️ Another big thank you to the great team of Slane Castle for having us in their beautiful grounds but also looking after all the catering. Tired but happy Viking went home into all directions and we will share the videos and photos with you soon.

And so it begins.... 😊⚔️⚔️⚔️ The first tents are up at Slane castle and many more will follow today. We will keep you updated as the Viking village grows.
