A walk/run from Knock to Kilkerrin in memory of Ger McMahon and to raise much needed funds & awareness for Galway Hospice.

€82,450.97 - THANK YOU!!

The amount raised has totally exceeded our expectations and we can’t thank you all enough. We have a hard working committee, but also a very supportive community that got behind us and supported us every step of the way. To everyone who contributed in any way, thank you!
€82,450.97 is a huge amount to money that we can all stand back and be proud of 👏🏼

A special thanks to Mary Nash, CEO of Galway Hospice and Aisling Kearney, Social Worker with Galway Hospice for coming out to Kilkerrin for the evening, speaking about some of the work the Hospice does and assuring us that the money raised will go towards very deserving causes within the Hospice.

We know that there’s one very proud man looking down on his family, friends and community and we know that the Journey For Ger story will be spoken about for years to come, all in memory of Ger McMahon 💙

Our next night is coming soon, October 7th.
The cheque has been signed and all will be revealed on the night when we hand it over to Galway Hospice 🌼

We want to sincerely thank each and every person who got involved in Journey For Ger, who have raised over €60,000 for Galway Hospice!! 🎉

It was amazing to see such a fantastic turnout from the community in Kilkerrin and beyond, which is a reflection of the significant work carried out by all the organisers. 👏

The event was held in memory of Ger McMahon, who was a deeply loved man at the heart of his family and community.

Where do we begin, What a weekend!

Thank you so much for the enormous support we’ve received over the last few weeks and especially over the weekend, not even the bad weather could dampen the spirits!
We were completely taken aback and overwhelmed by the hundreds of you that showed up to support us on our journey, whether it was for 1km or 46km and right through to the auction that night.
The day went off without a hitch and there is no doubt that someone was watching over us, keeping it all running smoothly 😇

The amount raised has gone way beyond our expectations and to date, we have raised over €60,000 for Galway Hospice with sponsorship cards still to be collected and donations still coming, we can’t thank you all enough.
Our online donation page will stay open for another few weeks if anyone would like to donate.

We will only have a limited amount of T-Shirts available tomorrow and a very tight time window to distribute them so please, please collect this evening if you can, or make arrangements for someone to collect for you!

If you can’t collect, please wear a light blue coloured top if possible!

A very special message today from Niamh Fahey, a Galway lady who plays centre back for Liverpool Ladies Football Club.
We’d like to wish Niamh all the best as she does our country proud over the next few weeks in the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand ⚽️

Liverpool was Gers all time favourite soccer team and he rarely missed a match, whether he watched it live or on match of the day on a Saturday night!

We would like to return the well wishes and good-luck to all the organisers of Baby Noel Heneghan Barn Dance this weekend! We hope a good night is had by all 💃🏻

As many of you are aware, the Barn Dance is not the only fundraiser taking place in the locality this Saturday, July 15th. We would like to wish the very best of luck to the McMahon family and everyone involved in Journey For Ger this Saturday as they walk from Knock to Kilkerrin in memory of Ger McMahon, all to raise funds for the Galway Hospice, an extremely worthy cause.

Two of the greatest hurling legends of their time, Joe Connolly and Tomás Mulcahy 🏑

Joe, a former player and selector of the Galway Hurling Team and a current representative of Galway Hospice.
Joe has had his own personal experience with the Hopsice when members of his own family availed of the services when they needed it the most so he knows all too well the feeling of gratitude that Ger’s nearest and dearest have towards the team at Galway Hopsice.

Tomás Mulcahy followed in his fathers footsteps and moved up through the ranks in Cork hurling until he finally landed a spot on the senior team. More recently, Tomás joined RTE as a sports analyst’s and often took his seat on The Sunday Game.

We would like to thank both men for taking the time out and sending on their well wishes!

Coming live from Croke Park, Ger Canning the familiar voice of sports commentary. Mr Canning has been the voice of many sporting events from the Special Olympics to the National Hurling and Football league, and everything in-between. A voice that our own Ger loved to listen to over the years and we know that he would be proud to think he got his own special mention in Croke Park 😇 #5DAYS!!

Introducing Niall Breslin - AKA Bressie! As well as being a former Leinster Rugby player, a Westmeath GAA player and lead singer with The Blizzards, Bressie’s main focus these days are on ‘A Lust For Life’, a charity organisation that works with young people to educate them on how to look after their mental health & wellbeing.
