Organizational Background
Formation A group of young, innovative and enthusiastic individuals with a passion to use theatre and drama for social change came together and started working as a Theatre Group in 1995. The members were from different walks of life who embraced art in all its different forms and believed that each form was a strong medium to add
ress social issues. Athmik is the voice that emanates from the soul., Majority of the members of the Athmik were associated with the organization because of a strong urge of the soul to do something for the ignorant citizens and vulnerable and underprivileged. The organization treaded its steps by organizing Theatre in Education Workshop with few adjoining clubs and with slum children. As it started working it got exposed to the stark realities of life, the poverty, the injustice and the sufferings of the people. While working with the slum children the team members got sensitized to the plight of the slum children and they decided to continue their work with children. Athmik realized that work with the most vulnerable and under privileged children, without any education / learning centre would be a directionless mission. Consequently, it decided to start non-formal education centre with Slum Children, Children Stay in Railway Station & Child labours. Athmik simultaneously started a journey of evolving from a mere theatre group to a social organization trying to address issues of social relevance through their creative means. By 2002, they had realized that they needed to constitute an organization in order to carry out their activities in an institutionalized framework. Consequently, they applied for registration of the organization under the West Bengal Societies Registration Act XXVI of 1961. Finally they got the registration on November 3rd 2003. As Athmik evolved, the members started exploring various other mediums. They started developing IEC materials on a number of social issues with support from other organizations. Their repeated selection for development of IEC materials, street plays and other awareness generation and sensitization techniques, by various government and non government organizations including INGOs proved their success in understanding the issues and identifying the appropriate manner to sensitize the community. Athmik got introduced to the electronic media, the strongest medium of the hour, with support from ETV. Athmik is now a complete, confident and spontaneous group which works passionately and professionally to fight against social evils. Official members Sl . No Name Designation Address

Child labour School – we are running a Child labour school namely ‘AGAMI’ funded by
NCLP Society Hooghly District. Location: At Chhoto – Khejuria area under Chinsurah-Mogra Block in Hooghly District. Baseline Survey Athmik had conducted a baseline survey in different wards of Hooghly-Chinsurah Municipality, Bhansberia Municipality, Bhadreswar Municipality and different underdeveloped and undeveloped areas and brick fields of Chinsurah-Mogra block on the Status of Children regarding their education, rights, health etc. Awareness Activity Venue Topic Funded by

Achievements
NCLP Society Hooghly District verbally declared that our school a Model example for the other. We are glad to inform you that we have already performed almost 8,500 Street Plays and 750 Talking Doll shows throughout the West Bengal and other states( Uttar Pradesh & Madhya Pradesh )for different such awareness campaign against & about different burning issues. In the year 2014-15 we organised 5 Brick Field Schools with more than 250 chieldren
this year (2015-16) 9 Brick Fiedl Schools are running
