Kartik Purnima is a significant Hindu and Jain festival celebrated on the full moon day (Purnima) in the lunar month of Kartik, usually falling in October or November. This day is considered highly auspicious, often associated with devotion, fasting, and rituals dedicated to Lord Vishnu, Lord Shiva, and the goddess Ganga. In Hinduism, it marks the end of Chaturmas, a period considered unfavorable for major religious ceremonies, and is celebrated with grand aartis and lamp-lighting at temples and river banks. Devotees take holy dips in rivers, especially in the Ganges, as it is believed to purify the soul and bring blessings. This day also commemorates the birth of Matsya, the fish incarnation of Lord Vishnu. In Jainism, it celebrates Lord Mahavira's final teachings and is a day for charity and spiritual reflection. Chhath Puja is a deeply revered Hindu festival dedicated to worshiping the Sun God, Surya, and his consort, Usha, in gratitude for sustaining life on Earth. Rooted in ancient Vedic traditions, Chhath Puja is predominantly celebrated in the Indian states of Bihar, Jharkhand, and Uttar Pradesh, as well as parts of Nepal. This four-day festival involves rigorous rituals and fasting, where devotees abstain from food and water, demonstrating immense dedication and resilience. The rituals begin with Nahai Khai, a day of purification, followed by Kharna, where devotees prepare traditional offerings after breaking their fast. On the third day, the most significant ritual, Sandhya Arghya, is performed as devotees stand in water and offer prayers to the setting sun. The festival concludes with Usha Arghya at dawn, honoring the rising sun. Observing Chhath Puja is a way of connecting with nature, expressing gratitude for the Sun's energy, and seeking blessings for health, prosperity, and happiness. The festival of Bhai Dooj is observed on the second lunar day of the Kartika month's Shukla Paksha. According to Hindu legend, on the second day succeeding Diwali, Yama, the god of death, visited his sister Yami, who lavished him with scrumptious meal and performed rituals to show her affection. Touched by her gesture, Yama declared that brothers will be rewarded with long life if they receive the same love and prayers from their sisters on this day.

Bhai Dooj symbolizes a brother's duty to protect his sister as well as a sister's blessings for her brother. It emphasizes the affection and duty siblings have for one another and acts as a reminder of their protective bond. Despite changes throughout the years, the core significance of Bhai Dooj—honoring sibling ties—remains the same, making it a beloved event in India.

Govardhan Puja is a significant Hindu festival celebrated primarily in North India, especially in Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, and Maharashtra. It falls on the fourth day of Diwali, marking the first day of the Kartik month (October-November). The festival commemorates the lifting of the Govardhan Hill by Lord Krishna to protect the people of Gokul from torrential rains sent by Lord Indra, symbolizing the importance of humility and gratitude toward nature and divine blessings. During the rituals, devotees create mounds of cow dung or mud symbolizing Govardhan Hill and decorate them with flowers, leaves, and lamps. Offerings such as Annakut (a grand meal with a variety of sweets and food items) are presented to Lord Krishna. Prayers and bhajans are sung, seeking Krishna's blessings for protection and prosperity. The celebrations foster community bonding through feasts, folk songs, and games. It emphasizes gratitude toward nature, cattle, and the environment, inspiring eco-friendly practices and unity within society.

Kumar Purnima or Sharad Purnima is a traditional festival celebrated primarily in Odisha, India, marking the full moon day in the month of Ashwin (September-October). The eighth day of Navaratri, celebrated in devotion of the Goddess Durga, is known as Durga Ashtami or Maha Ashtami. This day is celebrated on the eighth day of the lunar month of Ashwin and is dedicated to worshipping Mahagauri, the eighth form of Goddess Durga. The day is filled with elaborate rituals, including the traditional Sandhi Puja, which occurs at the juncture of Ashtami and Navami.This day is also known for Astra Puja, the ritual of worshipping weapons of Goddess Durga.
According to legend, Durga Ashtami originated in North India as a way to honor the Kanyaka, or young females, through a ceremony known as the Kanya Puja. The tradition is based on the belief that each of these young girls, represent the shakti of Goddess Durga on earth.

Shubho Mahalaya marks the beginning of the auspicious Navratri festival and heralds the arrival of Goddess Durga to Earth. Celebrated with great fervor primarily in West Bengal and among Bengali communities worldwide, Mahalaya is observed on the first day of the Devipaksha, which falls seven days before Durga Puja. It is believed that on this day, Goddess Durga descends from her heavenly abode to vanquish evil forces and restore peace and prosperity. People wake up early in the morning to listen to the recitation of the epic "Mahishasura Mardini," a melodious and powerful invocation that narrates the story of the Goddess’s victory over the demon Mahishasura. The day is marked by rituals to honor the ancestors (tarpan) and is seen as a spiritual preparation for the grand celebrations of Durga Puja. The phrase "Shubho Mahalaya" is exchanged to extend good wishes for the festive season ahead.

Celebrated in the third month of the Islamic lunar calendar, Rabi' al-Awwal, it is a day of joy and reverence for Muslims around the world. On this occasion, followers of Islam remember the teachings and life of the Prophet, emphasizing his message of compassion, peace, and unity. The celebrations vary across regions, often including prayers, recitations of poetry and hymns in praise of the Prophet, and gatherings where stories of his life are shared. Some communities also distribute food and charity as an expression of goodwill. While Eid-e-Milad is a joyful time for many, it also serves as a spiritual reminder of the values that the Prophet embodied.

Happy Teacher's Day

Teacher’s Day “गुरुर्ब्रह्मा गुरुर्विष्णु गुरुर्देवो महेश्वरा गुरुर्साक्षात परब्रह्म तस्मै श्री गुरवे नमः “ The Guru/ Teacher plays a very vital role in a person life. They are the ones who build a foundation of a student mindful consciousness after parents. Teaching is considered as one of the noblest professions as it spreads knowledge and wisdom. In India, teachers are considered equal to god, as the shloka mentioned above means; Guru (a teacher) is truly the representative of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. I salute such a great Guru. It is because a teacher is an enlightened person, who with his/her own experience can guide us to take the best route in our life. On 5th September every year, Teachers Day is celebrated to recognize the contribution of teachers to the society. We celebrate this noble profession because of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishan, the second President of India. Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishan was born on 5th Sept 1888. He was a highly-respected teacher, philosopher, scholar and a Bharat Ratna awardee. He was the first Vice President of India. When he took the office as the 2nd president of India in 1962, his students requested him to let them celebrate 5th Sept as a special day. After endeavoring a lot, he instead requested them to recognize 5th Sept as Teachers Day to acknowledge and respect all the teachers. Since then 5th September is dedicated to this noble profession of teaching. Students all across the nation pay their respects to their teachers by making them feel special, with roses, greeting cards and express their gratitude to them. Jai Jagannath ⭕❗❗⭕

The pandemic has paused the devotees' happiness and has forced them to stay at home. People aren’t allowed to visit puri and enjoy this festival closely because of Covid-19 this year as well. We hope and pray to lord Jagannath that everything will be alright soon and the Rath Yatra next year will be more auspicious with the presence of all the devotees at the Jagannath Temple, Puri. Gajavesha ⭕‼️⭕

In the Deba Snana Yatra, that is, the Divine Bathing festival, the idols of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, Subhadra, Sudarshana, and Madanmohana are brought out in a grand procession to the Snana Bedi which is the bathing platform. The Lords are bathed with 108 pots of ritually purified water. After the bathing ritual, Jagannath and Balabhadra are dressed up in the form of Gajavesha which represents the God Ganesh. After the divine bathing ritual, the Gods are believed to fall ill and are kept in a sick room to recover under the care of the Raj Vaidya. During this period, the devotees are not allowed to see the Gods and it is known as Anasara. After celebrating three days of Raja parba by giving rest to Mother Earth while she menstruates, we give her a bath with turmeric water. The grinding stone represents the Earth. Odia culture celebrates womanhood every year in June for 4 days. The festival "Raja" is the time when mother Earth goes through her menstrual cycle and so is given rest from every farming activities. Our Story

Sanskriti - Cultural Club of KSOM Bhubaneswar is one of the oldest and very active club of SOM, KIIT. It makes conscious efforts to keep the student community updated on the contemporary (both on & off-campus events) through various activities. It has been actively engaged in creatively connecting a strong cultural base for all KSOM students in enhancing their ability to be a magnificent and charming leader.The flagship event of the club, "In-House", consisting more over 22 exciting games between 8 teams(dividing into BBA and MBA students) of 1 week. Both "Au-Revoir" and "Konvoke" received rave reviews and are very popular among the students.

VISION : Sanskriti - Cultural Club of KSOM Bhubaneswar aims to attract and motivate the student community to explore and exhibit their creative and artistic sensibilities through talent shows, sessions, workshops and competitions.

MISSION : Sanskriti-Cultural Club promotes ksomians success through a cultural, academic and social framework in collaboration with college and community partners.
