Ikkat: A Legacy Reimagined by The Karigari

Ikkat, derived from the Indonesian word mengikat meaning “to tie,” is a centuries-old dyeing technique known for its rich patterns and intricate craftsmanship. Each piece of Ikkat fabric is a labor of love, where yarns are tie-dyed before weaving to create mesmerizing, blurred-edge designs. Practiced in regions like Telangana, Odisha, and Gujarat, Indian Ikkat has distinct regional identities but a shared soul of artisanal brilliance.

The Karigari began as a response to monotony—born from a moment when everyone seemed to wear the same factory-made fabrics. We looked back to our roots, to the vibrant imperfections and human touch of handmade textiles. Ikkat became our canvas for revival, where tradition meets reinvention.

With every piece, The Karigari honors the past while tailoring it for today—reviving the timeless magic of Ikkat for those who crave uniqueness in a uniform world.
